Phoenix Woman Ordered to Not Give Out Water in 112 Degree Heat Because She Lacked a Permit

This is what government is all about. Forget roads, mass murder through warfare, or locking people up for their consumption choices: it's making sure that no one gives out water without a permit.

This is from last week but I believe un-noted here: ABC-TV 15 from Phoenix reports that local Christian proselytizer Dana Crow-Smith was ordered by a "Neighborhood Preservation Inspector" to stop giving out free bottled water last month because she lacked a vending permit, though she was not vending.

She is threatening to sue the city with help from the Rutherford Institute, a civil liberties group with a focus on religious liberties, if the city doesn't apologize and swear to train its enforcement officers to not make the same mistake again

Now why would even a municipal petty tyrant want to do that?

Crow-Smith and a group of others were there exercising their Christian beliefs by engaging people to talk about religion if they wanted.

Okay, I get it. Be sure to talk about the glories of Allah if you want to pass out water unmolested by the authorities.

The group brought several cases of bottled water to give away in the 112-degree heat, but said a Neighborhood Preservation Inspector told the group they had to stop handing out the water or would be cited.

“It was really hot and yeah we wanted to show God’s love and a small act of kindness is a great way to do that without shoving it down someone’s throat. …

“But I don’t think it’s even about religious beliefs. I think anybody should be able to give away water on the sidewalk to anybody. It’s hot and it’s a nice thing to do,” said Crow-Smith.

So is feeding hungry children. That doesn’t mean the government will let you do it.

Not to worry, there is probably a federal stimulus program in the works that will distribute bottled water to the thirsty at a cost to taxpayers of only $297,468.32 per bottle.

That's the American way.

If she had been Islamic...

If she had been Islamic or a Human Secularist would you still be so incensed? He did his job, end of story, religious beliefs had nothing to do with it. He did good. She could have applied for a permit. Religious beliefs do not give a person the right to violate the law.

Dumbest post of the week?

Did you have your permit to post that?
