Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been telling those naughty Americans who are struggling to afford fuel for their older, gas-guzzling vehicles to just go get a brand-new electric vehicle like the Ford Mustang Mach-E (listed at $48,924 in Consumer Reports.)

Here he is, all "charged up, ready to go" and, oh, so "excited to go pick up a friend" (Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm) and share the "momentous" news about a new" national network of 500,000 electric vehicle chargers."

But now that Ford is recalling $48,924 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles because of a defect in the vehicle’s "battery contactor," will Buttigieg have to go back to riding his bike — back and forth from his security detail's giant SUV that follows along behind him, which was definitely not ever a publicity stunt?

The worthless butthead was AWOL during the supply chain fiasco and still is.

There really wasn't anything he could do about the supply chain fiasco which is still on going no?

OP whines about someone buying an EV. OP wouldn't whine if it was a straight Trumplitard doing the same damn thing.

A recall happens on vehicles both electric and gas.

Connecting the two in an argument is possibly the laziest form of "journalism" ever.....which is basically the only form trumpies read....("we all know.....")

Poor little Buttplug. Maybe there will be a future for him over at MSNBC. Or maybe on "The View."

Which supply chain fiasco do you mean?

PPE for health workers? Cotton swabs for Covid19 testing? Face masks? Nitrile gloves? Toilet paper?

You can drive an EV for less than $0.05/mile.

A gas car that gets 30mpg costs $0.20/mile at $6/gallon.

You do the math.

Cost per mile is NOT the issue, never was. Cost of the vehicle is the issue as well as driving distance.

Oh really? So when my wife and I look into getting our new car we aren’t going to consider the cost of fueling it?

Bottom line cost would be the issue. Have you estimated that or just want to find something to bitch about?

I bought a car a little while back. Seriously nice. I was not expecting to be impressed but fuck that thing is quiet and takes off like a dream. I don't typically drive fast so no clue how fast it can really go but my highway speeds are roughly 75 and it handles that no problem. Electric bill went up, aint gonna lie. Went up like my cock while watching grandma orgy latex cuck porn but totally worth it. Less than I spend in gas on the other one. Expensive? For me it was but clearly not out of reach. Just a budgeting thing. I do make up some of it with less fuel but that don't make the payment for sure.

Que don't say.

I shit you not. Apparently the illegal immigrants and "menstruating men" are causing the shortage. I wish I could make up this brand of crazy.

The real problem for the average Joe isn't the coast of EVs. To some extent its the lack of infrastructure, actually that's probably a bigger issue than a lot of us care to think about. Its that we went through this in 08 and to a lesser extent in 14. Everybody stopped buying SUVs for a year or two and hybrids went up in sales. There weren't a lot of EVs that were within reach at all for a normal person back then. Gas prices went back down and people didn't want to be "woke" or whatever we were calling it back then. Bill Maher claims that he never heard about this before the last four or five years. A man who's debut into the mainstream was a show called Politically Incorrect never heard of Political Correctness or as I called it Polite Company before? He can play a game of hide and go fuck himself.

Anyhow when, I don't believe this is peak oil and if its not gas prices will go back down. Maybe not all the way down but you can never make a good judgement on that particular front. Once things settle down Biden and co won't keep the push (perhaps Cars for Clunkers 2.0 designed specifically to get gas guzzlers off the road and high mileage, hybrids and EVs on them) so there is no next time won't happen. Worse if its until Republicans are in charge they will do everything they can to drive oil prices so low it won't be profitable to wean ourselves and the ride will start again.

Maybe the OP would be able to afford a $48,000 car if they went to college and got an education. Sorry your poor but it is your own fault. Ignorance is a choice.

A friend of mine recently bought a used Tesla S for $19k. He has 5kW of solar on his house (cost him $15k) that produces enough electricity for about 75 miles of driving per day.

45 miles worth of driving would get me through most of an average week for the last two years or so.
