PETA and Fishing

It was very disturbing today to see that PETA calls those of us who fish killers. They have a comic book out that they're passing to 12 yr olds that says basically if Dad and Mom fish, protect your pets, they are killers.
I fish. And when I was married a few years ago, my wife fished. My step-son is mentally handicapped. One of his best days was on the pond with a cane pole catching fish. He didn't want to release them, he wanted to fix us all dinner. I cleaned the fish he caught and he danced around happily that he had caught so many panfish.
PETA is saying that Mom's and Dad's are killers and kids shouldn't trust their pets with their parents. Why? Because we'll kill them. Since we fish, we'll kill Spot and Sassy. Killing is in our blood according to PETA.
So tell me this? Jesus fed his disciples on fish. Was he a killer? The question was given to PETA and they ignored the subject.
I bass fish and do well at it. Some I keep, some I let go. But my kitten is on my lap curled up and I'm a foster parent for a schnauzer until it's adopted.
But I'll never forget my step son being so proud of his fishing day. That doesn't make us murderers, that makes us parents.
So you tell me, do you think the friends you have who fish will kill their pets as PETA says? Should I get rid of the kitten because down the road I have this craving to kill something? Or has PETA gone too far to support their own beliefs in making everyone a vegetarian? And if so, do you believe in what they're doing?
Thanks and Hugggggggggggggssssss

I'll kick them with my leather boots will I eat a chicken leg.

People can't help take things too far...

Dear PETA,

I eat dolphin unsafe tuna. I feed my dog meat. I eat chicken and fish. I support hunting.

I even *gasp* support the death penalty...oh, wait that's human beings, you don't give a shit.

Sincerely,
ElSol

I was just kidding... but don't tell PETA.

Or at least, I think I'm just kidding... it's not like I do the grocery shopping.

Except for Krum... my girl knows better than to buy anything for my dog that I haven't thoroughly researched and made sure was perfectly safe for his fat-butt to eat.

Sincerely,
ElSol

PETA is well known to take things too far. A while back some local members broke into a science lab and let free the lab mice. There mice are breed in the lab for the purpose of research. They had never been in a natural world and had not developed natural survival skills. A few days later most were found deas around the lab grounds.

funny thing is, one day there are going to be a lot of people just like those rats.....

Come to think of it, there are now. There's a list of survival skills about a foot long that most people don't have a clue about..... things are going to get very interesting one day.....

PETA members have a point.

They don't want humans to kill animals. However, humans have removed most of the natural predators that keep animal populations under control. Thus, if humans do not kill prey species, said prey species will breed until the environment will no longer support them. Then the prey species will die of malnutrition or disease. Death by malnutrition or disease is a very ugly death indeed.

The point that PETA members have is at the top of their microcephalic head.

JMNTHO.

I don't see what the big deal is. If you fish, you kill fish. If you hunt, you kill animals. If you're a vegetarian, you kill plants. If you're in a war, you kill people.

Is any of this in dispute?

I say we all go down to PETA hq and throw hamburger at them, then some chicken eggs and milk, throw in some flour and they can make chicken fried steak.

Should've seen the one they pulled in England. They broke into a mink farm and released all of the minks. Into the New Forest. Where much of the rapidly shrinking population of British water voles was tenuously clinging to existence. Quite a lot of them ended up as mink snacks.

PETA has never been long on sanity. A fellow dog-owner said that they once solicted her to use her dog in advertisements, but while she was hemming and hawing for a polite way to say "No, you're loons," they saw her doing training with her pet and announced that they couldn't possibly use it because of her cruel and oppressive domination of her pet's free will. Never mind that lack of training is not only a quick ticket to being road pizza but also one of the most common reasons for euthanasia in shelters; downtrodden pups of the world unite and overthrow The Man!

PETA is so far out there stupid that they actually do more harm to the cause than they do good for the cause.

PETA sells their own line of vegan foods for your dogs and cats. That's right, even though nature determined that these animals are carnivores, you should ignore the laws of nature and make your cat a vegan.

Nature made us to be omnivores. They have made the choice to be vegetarian. That's fine with me, and I support their right to choose how to live. PETA doesn't repect the rights or choice of those of us that choose to be the omnivore that nature made us to be.

PETA:

People for the eating of Tastey animal.

If god didn't want us to eat them, then why did he make them out of meat?

I give to the animal rescue league when I have money. I'm a very soft touch and have taken in more strays or pets people no longer wanted than I can count. But these folks? they aren't about animals. They are about politics and dominion over other people. they just use sad faced puppies and cute fuzzy kittens to distract you from their agenda. Which is nothing less than controling everyone's choices in just about every facet of their lives.

A friend of mine married a Cambodianwoman, from a tribe deep in the jungle. They are hunters- family members would go into the mountains and come back with meat. MOnkeys, wild pigs, porcupines, whatever.

These people also have pets, and they make a disitinction between animals that are companions and animals that are food. it's no problem for htem to understand this is a dichotomy and that sometimes the difference is fluid.
When the big white Bramah Cow was brought into the villiage for their wedding- that was to be sacrificed and then roasted for the feats- My freind went out to look at it. It wanted him to rup it's horns, as cows do. His fiance came running out, sayiong "Andy, don't pet the food!"
If the villiagers thought he'd made an intimate contact with it, they wouldn't be able to kill it.

PETA is nuts, absolutely.

Hmmmmmm, you know that chicken served last night? The one that tasted kind of strange? I guess it's time to admit it was Free Range PETA. Hey it's open season on them down here.

My favorite PETA stunt of last year -- or was it the year? -- was to go to The Nutcracker and tell the kids with fur wearing moms, that mommy likes to kill animals. Oh, and to keep their pets away from mommy.

Interesting, isn't it, how they never go into a biker bar and start that crap with the leather-wearing crowd. I can't imagine why not. Surely it's not that noble zealotry is a lot easier to pull off when the targets are middle-aged women and their children?

Survival skills? what's that? :p
You think I'll be around to see the fun?

When PETA started, they came out in opposition to using animals in research and against fur. A lot of persons agreed with them, and I had to admit they had a certain point. I think they ignored leather and silk and meat because nobody would have agreed with them there. It's fairly recently that they have really gone off the deep end.

Do you think PETA does not realize how ridiculous they are? Animal rights is something that I fully support but to carry that idea to such an extreme? They use arson, burglary and destroy property in the name of their cause.
Overthrow The Man indeed!

I respect animal rights and their goal that they began with. It is just when taken to the extreme that they loose my respect.

I'd love to hang around and exchange opinions on this thread, but I'm rather busy getting my gear ready for tomorrow's fishing trip. Likely to be hard though, many of the lakes around York are iced over.

Never mind, at least I'll have a pleasant day out in the freezing fog, and a short break from the daily Na No grind. ;)
