Does anyone else have a pet troll?
Some of my stories receive consistent, good ratings,
and then my 'pet troll' shows up and 1 bombs it.
No feedback , no comment.

Anyone else getting this?

I have a troll who gives every one of my poems a 2 on the day it posts. I think the troll upgraded me to a 3 on my last poem, though. Either that he forgot to bomb me.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger! I have at least two trolls who read [or at least pretend to read] each and every chapter of my stories and reward me with 1 bombs, re-entering the 1 bombs as Laurel wipes them off the books.

One guy gave me a low vote because of what he knew was coming in a chapter that had not yet been released. When the chapter was released he admitted that it was not what he thought it was going to be. However, the vote cannot be taken back.

Mine's bashful,
doesn't even leave a comment.

Apparently SJ's is smart, knows the 1's are tossed out periodically,
so it hits her w/ a 2 or 3.

I suspect that my "real trolls" do not leave me comments. I do not think it is because they are bashful. It is most likely that they wish to inflict maximum damage with not even an attempt to indicate why.

I have one that says I'm a racist. I'm also a heathen unbeliever. :D

He bombs everything every so often, and then Laurel goes through, and removes the bombs. I guess he doesn't realize it's an exercise in futility.

I know what you mean, it happens so often, you know when to expect it.
It's not so bad when a stroy has time to accumulate some votes, but early on you can really tell.

Plus, I got some numbnut following mround in the threads, posting absolute nonsense. I'm starting to understand why some people use alts, lol

Not yet.

Although my BDSM piece picked up a whack of ones. All gone now though.

I have at least two, although I think one of them may have given up or maybe, if I'm lucky, got eaten by vicious hampsters or something.

My new one sent me an email about a month ago telling me that he just didn't think that girl/girl sex was exciting and that all my stories were sick and boring. He then told me that he votes all my stories down every time he goes on Lit.

He then went on to complain that I must be cheating by voting my stories up because everytime he went and voted them down within a few days they would be back up in the ratings. He said I was pathetic because I couldn't take rejection and had to cheat to get into the top lists.

I spent some time that night writing him a reply explaining to him how the voting system of Lit worked and that the site management does sweeps for 'voting down', (I dicided not to call them troll sweeps) and went on to say that he was welcome to his one vote if he didn't think my stories were good, that's his opinion, but I don't vote my stories up or cheat in any way.

I sent it to him feeling very good that I hadn't just told him to fuck off, proud that I had taken the time to try to enlighten him...

But the email address he gave me didn't work.

I have a troll who bombs my poems if they make it into the top ten. For awhile, it was voting me 1's and they would get swept, but since then it's gotten smarter and started voting me 2's. I don't know if it's actually my personal troll, it might be hitting everyone in the poetry top list. Trolling poetry is just pure evil, considering the total lack of votes most poems get anyway.

I had one, or two, or more, I'm not sure.

I fought back by not giving them any stories or poetry to bomb.

.....I'm not sure who won that battle.

Hey and Good Day to everyone

Nobody won,
but a lot of us lost.
I really enjoy your work.

CD & OMS,
It sounds to me like your trolls are other writers.
I've become aware it can get nasty at times,
especially when the Top lists are involved.

I've watched one category in particular,
it seems some stories drop all at once,
and another group goes up.
interesting.....

The thing that really angers me is the vandalism exhibited here. If a reader does not like my/your stories, well and good that is its priviledge. However, to continue to read and troll bomb stories it does not like is just sheer vandalism.

On the off chance that such a troll actually reads posting in this forum, I would like to offer the following challenge. Read a story that you think is worthy of a 1 bomb. Tell us why you think the story deserves a 1 vote. THEN, write us the story the way it should have been written to guide us from our mistaken ways into the light! Post a new thread containing the explanation and at least the link to the proper story. "It is better to light a single candle than to sit and curse the dark!"

The ball is in your court, troll!

I'm one to never give up nor surrender. I think it's more likely a temporary remission from an obsession.

I mentioned it because it's probably fairly common with those who are easily discouraged.

That's the point,
trolls don't have any balls

I believe one of my trolls is another writer but I can't be positive. I think the other is just a regular reader of the catagory.

Yes, I believe you are right and that the voting can get very nasty when the top lists are involved. Thankfully most of my stories have enough votes to shrug off the occasionall troll. Most have over 100 votes and one has about 500+/- so a few bombs dont do much.

Along these same lines

I want to write under a second name to escape a "friend" who haunts me whenever I write about a certain subject. How does one do this? I read the FAQ's but didn't see anything about it.

If you just sign up under a different name and password, how do you get from being sent to your original name when you log on?

Stupid questions I'm sure, but please consider the source and be gentle.

I'd hate to think a new writer that shows promise would give up
because some a-hole w/ a keyboard knows how to push a 1.

You just create another persona/username to submit under.

Whenever you want to use that persona you'll have to log out of the first one. Just closing Lit won't do it. Use the Log Out at the top right corner.

100 votes?!?
wow! what's that like? lol

I agree, it's not so bad once a story has a few votes under it,
but when they're new, it's obvious when they've been bombed.

I read somewhere that some readers 'lurk' in the New section,
like critics checking new releases.

I have more concern for the ones that don't reconsider and stop writing entirely. I'm too sturbborn for that.

For me, it's not the point number or the trolls intent that's troubling. What I don't like is the effect it might have on new readers who aren't familiar with this place. They don't know the alterior motives that might apply and they could be swayed into an incorrect bias against the author.

Another troll possibility is a blindsided attack for something unrelated to any writing. A disagreement of opinion in one of the forums could do it for a person capable of that behavior.

Right again Rumi.
I wasn't referring to you in particular in the previous post,
it was meant for new writers/ first time submitters.

You & I both spend some time in other forums, and I don't
have to tell you about some of the well adjusted people on there.
