Is it possible to actually delete older messages you only seem to be able to leave

Well, you can go to the old messages you've written and choose "edit." Then delete the content and replace it with something like "deleted." Other than that, I don't know of a way to delete the message entirely. And there doesn't seem to be a way of deleting the messages that were sent to you.

I was able to remove/delete some older messages. Click on the message; look over to the right at the top of the message, you should see 'star', and also 'leave'. Leave will remove the message but you will first get a warning and a couple of options. If you DO NOT see 'star',there should be three vertical dots (more) click on that first.
