Personally, it drives me absolutely insane to see extremely personal information posted about other people...I cannot understand why people insist on doing that. I would NEVER post someone else's city, name, or anything else unless it had been previously agreed upon.

I don't think anyone should ever name another poster, or give personal info that might compromise someone's privacy or security. I am sure that it has happened inadvertantly on occasion, and the offender in such a case ought to make amends by apologizing, and editing the information out of their post.

In some cases, a certain amount of personal info sharing might be acceptable. After my accident, several people started threads in the other areas of Lit. to spread the info that Sam had posted here about my health. Since that was repeating already posted info, it is acceptable, but someone reading those other threads might not have known that the info was here with my approval, so I would caution about being too hasty in raising objections if you see personal info posted.

There are a number of people here, that I have personal info on; real names, phone numbers, etc., and a number of people I trust know who I am. I don't really have a problem with that because if they posted it - I would hunt them down, and they know it .
