Village People? Do any of those mates still admit to knowing him?
weren't the Village People more a '70s thing?

"Can't Stop the Music" came out in 1980, so yeah, they were mostly a late 70's thing.
'80s ?!?!?!?!?!?!?
not 1880s, but 1980s?
okay - now I really feel old.
I played skiffle in the 1950s. E.g a cover of this:

I started work before the Beatles first hit.
I married (late by contemporary standards) in 1972.

Ye gods, the 'films' from those days are dire in the extreme. Lo Rez or what ?
(now if they had a 'British' setup, it might have managed better).
Eddie Cochran was doing "3 steps to heaven" when I left home to join the RAF.
Boy oh boy, the two dudes on the outside were sure working it! And she was as cute as a kittenNot 'film' but TV recording. Black and white films were much better.
The recording is nearly as dire as my playing...

Thanks for the help. My current story is set in the mid 80's. Heading may have been slightly misleading. I want to try a real historical piece at some point if my writing ever gets to that level.
But still a lot to consider even for the 80's as most issues can now be solved with a mobile phone.
That is such an odd thing to type about the 1980's, but there are entire shows dedicated to the subject: I Love the 80's, I love the 80's: Strikes Back, etc. Otherwise, it is also fun to watch social documentaries filmed at the time, if nothing else, just for the giggles; examples: The Decline of Western Civilization Part I and (my favorite) Part II: The Metal Years, Paris is Burning which is about some of the drag scene in the 80's...there are others that I've watched, but their titles elude me at the moment. Anyway, that should be plenty to maybe getcha started.
