Doctor Jailed for Billing for Sex
Mon Jun 21, 2004

PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) - An Oregon doctor, who had sex with a patient and then charged the state about $5,000 for his "treatments," has been jailed for 60 days and stripped of his license, officials said on Friday.

Dr. Randall J. Smith, 50, told the woman that massaging her "trigger points" would ease her pelvic pain. The treatments led to sexual intercourse and Smith billed the Oregon Health Plan for the 45-minute sessions at the Adventist Health Medical Group clinic in Gresham, Oregon, near Portland.

Smith must also perform 200 hours of community service and pay $1,105 in fines and is on probation for 18 months as part of the plea agreement. He also turned in his medical license.

Though he pleaded guilty to submitting false health care claims, a felony, Smith maintained the sex with the 47-year-old woman was consensual.

Adventist repaid about $5,000 to the state, David Russell, clinic administrator for the hospital said.

Well, did it cure the patient? LOL

Actually, I have mixed feeling about this. What he did was unethnical and should be made to pay for his actions.

What I wonder about is this woman. Where is she? Has she come forward about what happened to her? Has she said that is was consensual?

I am sure he isn't the only "professional" who has done something like this and tried to get away with it.

What did the patient say? Other than, thank you doctor I feel much better now.

"The treatments led to sexual intercourse and Smith billed the Oregon Health Plan for the 45-minute sessions at the Adventist Health Medical Group clinic in Gresham, Oregon, near Portland." The word sessions seems to imply that there was enough analgesic benefit in the good doctor's subtle manipulations to persuade the patient to seek out his healing hands on more than one occasion.

Yes. If her insurance company was billed, certainly there would be some type of paper trail. Surely she would have had some inclination that the good Doc was, in effect, charging her(if she had a co-pay) and her insurance for giving her the high hard one.

Hope he was adequate.

;)

Let's see, he had sex with her for money, to make her feel better? They should had just booked him for prostitution and be done with it.

Yeah, fuck people who make people feel better!

And fuck insurance companies, too! They never have a sense of humor.

Randall J. Smith, a 50-year-old man received $5,000.00 for 45-minute session(s). Unfortunately, the good doctor had the misfortune of billing this massage to his patient’s medical insurance company.

As we all know, insurance companies are nothing if not loth to pay for medical treatments, especially those treatments which leave the patient feeling better than before said treatment.

As a result of the insurance companies’ efforts, the good Dr. Smith has gone from being able to command $5,000.00 for the services of his willy, to a position where he is forced to provide 200 hours of service – sans willy – and pay $1,105,00 in penalties.

One way to look at this would be to note the good doctor he has gone from the previously noted earning power, to his present earning capacity of minus $5.23 per hour. From earning thousands per hour, the former Dr, Smith has been sunk to being both forced to work and being financial penalized for this work.

If nothing else, this dramatically demonstrates the value of a medical license.

I think your research overlooked the ‘jouncing board.’

A ‘jouncing board’ was a small wooden device employed when our female ancestors felt on edge. Sitting upon it, at the edge of their bed, they would jounce until they suddenly 'felt more relaxed.’

It was a favorite tool of the wives of sea captain’s and busy colonial businessmen.

That's exactly the kind of technolgy we're missing today VB. For a minute there I thought to myself your thread title could be "people with nerves".

Oh I think I could use one of those right jouncing boards right now...jounce me, jounce me! Out of my way Doctor...a jolly good jouncing session will see me right.

;)
