People disliking Anal in Erotic Couplings? What are the norms here?

Hey y'all

I'm new here, so maybe I'm missing something in terms of the norms of the different categories. I submitted my first story, and I thought it fit best in "Erotic Couplings". I did some searches, and it was pretty easy to find lots of other stories in the category that included some anal. It wasn't the FOCUS of the story, so I figured I was putting it in the right place.

So far, the ratings have been positive, but both of the comments on the story are to do with the inclusion of anal as a problem for the reader.

Is there an established norm for what goes in Erotic Couplings?

Don't listen to butthurt commenters.

(No pun intended)

As you've seen, anal is fine in EC if it's too tame for the Anal category. If the focus is not on anal, it probably does not belong in the Anal category.

There are no set rules when it comes to EC. It's an all-inclusive category as long as it involves a man and a woman having sex.

Some readers don't like reading anal sex in EC. Avoid writing about it if you're a crowd-pleaser. If not, then write what you want. I've read EC stories with anal sex in the Hall of Fame before, so maybe it's more about how it's being written.

If the scores are good, a few vocal readers should be at the bottom of your priority list.

It was very odd to have both of the commenters on your story seem to be averse to Anal. It was well-written all around and I enjoyed reading it! I would say continue to do your thing as you see fit, judging by the ratings you're getting, most people see to enjoy what you've produced. 😊

Any time you add backdoor stuff to a story outside of anal, or add a chapter in that category to an ongoing story, there are going to be people who freak out. There's no avoiding it. Some people hate it, and they've made it their mission to scold any author who includes it. Don't let them overrule your good judgement ( the category choice was just fine ) or discourage you from following your characters down whatever path they choose.

You typically have to be blindsided by it at least once, but now you know the "ewwww!" people are out there, so you'll be ready for it if it ever happens again.

Just edited your post for precision. That's absurd category policing.

Short answer, no, there's no guidance for EC. If anal isn't the priority kink, it's fine in that category. If it's the dominant kink, then obviously, it's got its own category and would run better there.

There seems to be a sect of people that just can not stand anal in any story.
Just remember with Anal it depends on who is giving and who is receiving. Anal can either make your day or make your hole weak.
