Hi fellow writers
I have written and submitted a story 4 days ago, but its still pending.
Can any of you guys tell me how long it normally takes for a story to be released?

Patience, young Jedi

When things were running smoothly, it could be as little as a few hours, but par was about 2 days. Since last summer, it has been much more variable, and none of us is sure why (it may be a bug, or because Laurel is the only approver).

In June last year, I had 7 stories approved, with an average of 2.3 days.
In November, I had one batch of 5 stories approved in 2.4 days.
Later that month, a batch of 3 took 15 days.

🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

What nobody here mentioned, and what the "Pending longer than 72 hours? Please read" announcement linked above also doesn't mention, is what do you do if your story gets stuck. At least the @Literotica announcement does more-or-less say "when" to do something about it.

The end of that announcement says not to "click on or alter" the submitted story before 15 days has passed - UNLESS you found and fixed any of the issues it describes earlier in the announcement. Assuming your story doesn't have any of those issues*, then what you do after 15 days is, you delete the story, now it isn't Pending anymore, and you resubmit it as a whole new story, with a statement in the Notes field which tells the editorial approver that the story was previously stuck in pending for however many days and is being resubmitted.

* What if your story does have one of those issues? It's likely to result in a Rejection/Send Back, rather than Permanently Pending. The fact that it's stuck in pending for a long time does not indicate that one of those issues is the problem. It's just stuck for no reason. So wait your 15 days and then delete and resubmit with a Note about the stuck status.

The vast majority of stories get approved in a few days. But the tail is very long, into months.

That's like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

There is empirical evidence over the years that sending a PM to Laurel will often (apparently not always) get a story stuck in pending for more than 15 days resolved. Some have stated that this hasn't worked for them, and without seeing their messages or how they worded them, I won't argue their positions.

All I can say is it has worked for me twice within the last month.

If you PM her before 15 days, all bets are off. If it is an edit or a deletion request, the 15 day option doesn't apply. Those are low priority and always have been.
