Pending submissions

I don't know what's worse: having it in Pending limbo, or seeing the New status and having to wait for it to post.
I prefer when it's out in the world to be read. This one already is up on paysites. Proably to soon to put it here, but I needed to publish something.

FWIW, I submitted a How-To two days ago and it shows as publishing about 48 hours after submission, though new authors can take a bit longer.

I'm assuming it's not sexual? That probably speeds up the process as well I'd think.

Submitted two stories about the same time. One was approved and published in two days. The other is “stuck.” This story is part of an established, fairly popular series. Not getting it.

Three days is reasonably quick.

Expect it to be MUCH longer if it’s a poem, or if it’s illustrated, or oral. Category occasionally matters. For fastest results, enter a contest.
"Oral"? You mean Audio?

Oral means something different around here, fella.
🤣
Oddly, I submitted a story yesterday, and it went to New today, but with a publish date not for tomorrow, but for the day after. I don't think I've ever seen that with a story that wasn't for an event.
I've seen that happen once. I assumed there were already a lot of releases already planned for that day, and she wants to space them out? Not sure.

Anecdotally, I think story length also affects the time between submission and going live. Maybe that's so obvious to others it literally goes without saying, but I do the same thing when deciding what to read after finding a few promising candidates. If there's a 5k tale and a 50k one, I'm usually going to start with the shorter one. And it kind of makes sense that Laurel might prioritize approving ten 5k tales before starting on the novel. Even if she's just skimming that's still a pretty hefty time sink for a single author and likely isn't completed in one sitting.

How bad you skirt the rules might also be an issue. There are some stories where Laurel might need to make a call on certain things. Does your daddy daughter incest story with a high school principal and student role play clearly depict the daughter as over age 18 and the role play as just that, everything consensual? Is your story with the stripper wearing a nun habit more about shaming religion (not ok) or the sexy fake nun (ok, I think)? Verify whether actress X is over age 18 in the setting and an adult in real life for the Celebrity section, and that they’re not a political figure (so many actors skirt the line these days!). If you’re using consensual bdsm to help a survivor of bdsm done wrong, is this ok? This sort of thing. Skirting the rules slows submission, some stories need a judgement call. Not listing specific examples of what gets rejected and what does not.

My first story was submitted on the 28th of last month and published on the 30th, so less than 48 hours. Brand new author, edited it after submission, wrote non-con, I was surprised at how fast it went live as when I posted I saw threads of people saying it was taking over a week.

Next I posted a handful of the next chapters and they were all approved in a day or two, but they were in the pending file with each showing a live date of a day apart, so they are going live one a day. It seems they are all going live at about the same time each day too, so one every 24 hours.

I've learnt that my chapters are fairly short by lit standards so I wonder if that has something to do with the speed.

Eventually, it will appear. I've had stories sit there for two weeks and others for two days. Grasshopper, learn the art of patience.
