Hello, I’m sure this topic has been discussed many times before but all I found were dated threads.

Does it still take at least 3 days or more before a story is either approved or denied and removed from pending status?

TIA

Once you've become an establish author and know all the little things that help speed up the process, then submissions will usually stay in pending only two or three days (assuming there are no mistakes that need fixing). If you are a new author, the process can take longer because Laurel will take a closer look to make sure everything is okay.

If you are editing an existing story, that can take up to three weeks since edits go to the end of the queue.

Thanks Candy!

You may be seeing the effect of two different story events going on. They generally take precedence over non-event stories.

Even so, 3 days isn't unusual.

Varies. I've had stories sit for over a week before approval. I've had stories sit for only two hours. Regardless there seems to be a lag of one or two days before an approved story is published.

Makes sense. I recently submitted it and was mostly just curious as to the ETA. But yes, with the events going on I’m sure it will be a bit longer. Thanks Dave

If you are a NEW author, it does take longer before your story posts. Laurel is not used to you, your writing style, and makes sure that everything is in good order.

If there are contests, invitationals, etc, going on, then it will take longer as well, because she has to post those stories as well as the normal stories.

We've all been where you are before. We know it sucks. LOL.

Just be patient, and start writing another story to post.
Once Laurel gets to know you, your stories get posted much faster.

Good luck and welcome to this crazy fucking place.

Three days is reasonably quick.

Expect it to be MUCH longer if it’s a poem, or if it’s illustrated, or oral. Category occasionally matters. For fastest results, enter a contest.

Lmao thank you for the advice

Oddly, I submitted a story yesterday, and it went to New today, but with a publish date not for tomorrow, but for the day after. I don't think I've ever seen that with a story that wasn't for an event.

Ha nice. Seems like a quick turnaround

I don't know what's worse: having it in Pending limbo, or seeing the New status and having to wait for it to post.

I have one "New" scheduled for tomorrow. I keep looking at it like that'll make it publish faster somehow 😆.

1st: welcome.

2nd: since all the usual answers are already posted, i figured I'd instead offer some tips for faster story approval:

Make sure your well aware of the site rules. What's allowed in a story, and more importantly, what's NOT allowed.

Especially regarding character ages. Identify your characters ages early on. Make it VERY clear they're at least 18 or older.

This saves Laurel from having to hunt for it.

This is harder to do, but at least keep in mind various contest deadlines.

If you post too close to a contest entry date and your story isn't participating in the contest, you may get put to the end of the line while contest entries take priority.

Make sure it's well edited BEFORE you submit. And remember any changes you make AFTER put you back at the end of the line.

So edit right the first time.

Spelling errors slip through all the time, but a badly edited story FULL of obvious mistakes may get your story sent back as well.

Lastly, if you feel the delay too long... be patient, and be respectful.

Reach out to Laurel if you feel you must. But remember there's no need to be rude.

Ask kindly about the delay, and be patient on waiting for a reply.

Good luck with your story and again, welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the tips and the warm welcome! I gotta say, I’m surprised at how helpful this forum has been so far. I’ve been on other writing sites that are just full of trolls lol

That happened with my previous story. I figured that Laurel was either balancing the amount of stories, or the categories.

Oh, we have our share of those here too, fair warning.

But most of us are the fuzzy, harmless troll types.

It's in Novels and Novellas, and that's not a category that gets a high volume of submissions, so it's probably due to the overall number, site-wide.

You get out of it what you put into it.

Some folks come here with an attitude. You didn’t. (y) Welcome.
