Pending clock reset

Hi all,

Over the weekend I submitted a story, only for the pending clock to reset the next day. This is far from my first time submitting a story, and I know this has happened before, however I was wondering if anyone knows why this happens? Is this an indication of anything?

Any insight would be appreciated!

This has happened to me every time I've submitted. The prevalent theory seems to be that it means that it's passed through some level of automated review and is waiting for approval, but no one knows for sure.

On a completely separate topic, may I message you directly? I know you don't know me, but one of your stories that I came across (and really liked!) has a number of contextual similarities to a WIP of mine, and I was hoping you might be willing to consult. I can explain more there. And no pressure. As I said, I know you don't know me and have no reason to want to help. Either way, thanks for the story.

Every time my pending clock has reset, or at least every time it has reset and stayed pending long enough for me to notice the change, it has resulted in a lengthy wait for publication... usually in the seven to fifteen day range. I've typically messaged Laurel about it; sometimes that resulted in very quick approval of the languishing story, but not always. If it's been more than three days since the reset, it may be worth sending her a note. If it's been more than fifteen days, definitely send a message.

I had something really weird with my pending clock happen. I submitted a story late on Sunday evening, 2/15. The next day, the 16th, the pending clock finally posted a date - 2/15! This morning it changed to 2/18, so I think it'll work out, but that was a little weird. Hopefully my story will get published ok. I've been lucky so far.

If the date keeps resetting, chances are you will be in pending purgatory for a while.
