Words have a nasty way of coming back to haunt you. In this case, Vice President Mike Pence wrote two columns during the Clinton administration wherein he espoused the belief a president, any president, should be held to the highest moral and ethical standards:

"If you and I fall into bad moral habits, we can harm our families, our employers and our friends. The President of the United States can incinerate the planet. Seriously, the very idea that we ought to have at or less than the same moral demands placed on the Chief Executive that we place on our next door neighbor is ludicrous and dangerous.

"Throughout our history, we have seen the presidency as the repository of all of our highest hopes and ideals and values. To demand less is to do an injustice to the blood that bought our freedoms."

In addition, while Pence mentioned Clinton's lying under oath, he also said public statements made by Clinton "damaged the institution of the presidency."

Pence went on to say:

"Further, the Presidents (sic) repeated lies to the American people in this matter compound the case against him as they demonstrate his failure to protect the institution of the presidency as the 'inspiring supreme symbol of all that is highest in our American ideals.'"

He continued, "Leaders affect the lives of families far beyond their own 'private life'. In the Bible story of Esther we are told of a king who was charged to put right his own household because there would be 'no end of disrespect and discord' among the families of the kingdom if he failed to do so. In a day when reckless extramarital sexual activity is manifesting itself in our staggering rates of illegitimacy and divorce, now more than ever, America needs to be able to look to her First Family as role models of all that we have been and can be again."

But Pence wasn't done. He took one last shot at having Clinton removed:

"If our leaders flinch at this responsibility, they would do well to heed the Proverb 'if a ruler listens to lies, all his officials become wicked,'" he added. "Our leaders must either act to restore the luster and dignity of the institution of the Presidency or we can be certain that this is only the beginning of an even more difficult time for our land. For the nation to move on, the President must move out."

Amen, brother. Amen. Now step up and what's right for this country and get Republicans behind you to remove this abomination who lacks the highest moral standards and has failed to protect the institution of the presidency.

One's history of statements once meant something, yes, but, thanks to outrageously lying (and Republican tolerated) Trump, they don't seem to matter much anymore.

Him saying all that is the epitome of irony and hypocrisy

I swear he's Frank Underwood in House of Cards. "Yes, Mr. President, I totally support you." He and Mother are measuring the drapes in the Oval Office.

Can you imagine Trump indited and Pence saying, "Let the Courts Decide"

As Don swings in the shadows, Mother bastes the Turkey. :D

So all the time Pence was campaigning with Trump following the release of the Hollywood Access tape, this was buried in the Internet somewhere?

Although I sometimes joke about tolerating someone in office because the next one behind him is worse, I don't believe in the application of this. If Trump is criminally venal (which he is), get him removed. If the next one in line is even worse, get rid of him faster. Don't tolerate one criminal just because the next one seems more criminal. Getting rid of the first one will be instructive to the next one--and anyone else who sees that not chopping down Trump justifies Trumpian behavior.

The Republicans handled the Nixon issue a whole lot more honorably and capably than they are "handling" the Trump issue. They got rid of Agnew before they tackled Nixon--and got rid of him too then. The Republicans we have in Congress now are sniveling cowards and should all be investigated for treason right along with Trump and company.

Hey, My I, isn't that Interesting....?

(Originally, I thought of highlighting
"Under him, the sheriff’s department failed to investigate hundreds of sex abuse cases, many of which involved children.",
but then realized I shouldn't devaluate the other offences.)

I'm sure my's response will be "but they're brown and poor so they deserved it". You know the standard stuff a racist would say.
