There are 3 potential outcomes from this:
1. The D's go forward, impeach Trump and the Senate fails to convict and remove.
2. The D's threaten to impeach but never get beyond bluffing.
3. The D's fail to impeach by not getting sufficient votes in the House.
In none of those situations do the D's come out on top.
Arguing beyond that, supposed that they do manage to impeach and remove Trump. What do they get as a "reward"?
Pence is POTUS. Paleosi is Veep. As Veep, Paleosi basically cannot open her mouth without Presidential approval and then she must spout the administration's policies and platform. Her position in the Senate as the "tie breaker" will be worthless to the D's because the R's hold a majority with a few votes to spare. Paleosi is effectively sidelined and removed from power. Which is not something she desires.
Again, the D's do not come out on top. Worse, once Trump is removed they have no boogie man to rage against. Their policies go nowhere and they are out of villains.
This language of the 25th Amendment doesn't sound like the Speaker is automatically propelled into the Vice Presidency:
2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
