Attention pedestrians: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the streets are TRYING TO KILL YOU!

OK, well, maybe nothing that dramatic, but NHTSA does note that pedestrian fatalities rose by 4 percent, to 4,280 from 4,109, between 2009 and 2010. Data for 2011 -- which, as in previous years, is reported by individual states -- are expected later this year.

Attention NY state drivers: pedestrians in the cross walk, with the light or in a cross walk where there is no light, HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY! I use two on my trip from work, and I was almost hight by 4 cars. Don't outlaw cars, just uneducated drivers!!

I have recommended for years that we adopt mandatory body armour and mandatory helmets for all pedestrians - especially those under 18 years of age. Most injuries and deaths to pedestrians could be eliminated by simple and readily available equipment.

Do you think some white paint on the road is a replacement for looking both ways? Too many people seem to think they can stop a car instantly by putting a foot on that white stripe.

"I had the right of way" is a useless mantra if you're lying in the trauma ward.

Paint and law do not protect you.

And also, if people would stop texting when jaywalking they might look to see if a car was approaching.

Just sayin', look before you cross the street.

Thankfully I could dodge those that didn't PAY ATTENTION to the person in the cross walk. I had the light, I had the signal to cross. Two young dumbass male drivers impatient to wait less than a minute for me.

I don't text while crossing, because drivers treat pedestrians like motorcycles, as if they don't exist.

We should probably outfit them with jetpacks, too, so they have that just-in-case escape option in a pinch. Especially the minors. Nothing would make me feel safer than living a city full of kids with jetpacks.

Wear your hard hat. :)

I was going to opt for inflatable rubber duck flotation devices as additional padding.

And risk getting hat hair? No thank you. I'll take the skull injury.

I think that's wise. With that much safety, we probably won't even have to wear seatbelts anymore! Good riddance.

I read about a new technology that can detect human flesh - currently being adapted for power tools to prevent carpenters from cutting their fingers off in table saws and jig saws. It senses the proximity of human flesh and instantly brakes the blade to a stop, fast enough that it will not cut the hand.

What I propose is that this technology be adapted to automobiles, bicycles and motorcycles - so that should a pedestrian be detected, the vehicle brakes will immediately lock preventing the collision.

I've been hit while riding my bicycle more than I have crossing the street.

Bicycles are vehicles and should require the same licensing, insurance and registration that motor vehicles require.

Those that hit me were OVER 65. I believe when you hit 65, you should have a yearly test, to see if you're fit to drive! Wow, if I had a bicycle license, I would have had 3 - car, motorcycle, and bike.

I was hit by a 16 year old. I think those under 18 should be tested every day before driving.

No one under 21 should be allowed to drive. Frontal lobe development and all the other excuse crap. :D

Men between 16 and 35 should have to wear mandatory blinders in order to drive. They are too easily distracted by things beside the roads.

I raced dirt late models from the ages of 15 to 17. I didn't receive my license until I was 17. What I learned on the track was anticipation: Anticipating the dumbass and stupid other drivers.

We took a LONG ASS trip this summer, the kid helped with the driving. What he hated was that he was NOT allowed to put on the Sirius/XM while he was behind the wheel.
