Not to wory, my TV listing was apparently not current this late into the month. It was changed to Sunday 27 May at 8:00 PM (according to the promo they finally showed at 10:30 .

Since you've seen it, are the special effects really as knife sharp and clear as the commercials make it look?

If they are, the attack can't be anything like realistic judging from the historical footage of the actual attack. The commercials make it look like a video game instead of smoke, flames, and confusion.

I can't really remember, They did seem pretty clear to me but I'm pretty drunk right now so it might just be that the rest of the world looks pretty foggy.

My understanding is that they made the sinking of the USS Arizona much more dramatic than it really was. She went down so fast that there was to little time for all the stuff that the special effects wizards put into the film.

I have also read a couple articles by survivors of the attack who have seen the movie, and their impression was that the film was overly dramatic.

Interesting verdict from the History Channel.

History Vs Hollywood rendered what could be called a split verdict.

The two guest Historians said "History"

The Seven Pearl Harbor Survivors rated it six "Hollywood" and one "Half & Half" Although all seven agreed it was a movie that should be seen to help keep the "Day that will live in infamy" alive.

From the clips they showed of the bombing, I have to say I really felt they looked like clips from a video game, and nothing like an attempt to accurately depict a battle.

I must say that the clips featuring FDR and other historical figures were well done.

All things considered, I'd rather rent _Tora, Tora, Tora_ or the mini-series _Pearl_ (which earned a nod as "History" earlier today on _Movies In Time_)

I finally watched the tape of the show tonight- I don't get to the TV much anymore.

Your description is very accurate of the show. But the survivors made more of an impression on me. Even though they voted "Hollywood" they still said to see it. Why? Because the schools don't teach what happened at Pearl Harbor and Americans have forgotten "the day that will live in infamy." They thought the movie was good because it would bring attention to veterans, and the battles they have survived.

Do our schools really not teach Pearl Harbor anymore?

Yes and no. History classes teach WWII and Pearl Harbor, but History is no longer a required subject in many school systems. The focus on WWII has changed as well, with more emphasis placed on the social changes brought about by Rosie The Riveter and Civil Rights issues like the Tuskeegee Airmen and other blacks in uniform. The basics of WWII history are still there, but not the emphasis.

I do agree with the survivors that the movie is a "good thing" even if not absolutely accurate. I told my daughter to save the ticket price, and rent Tora, Tora, Tora. At least she was interested becaause of the hoopla around this movie.
