Today is Pearl Harbor Day, and I feel it is appropriate to remind everyone to thank a vet today.

The generation that grew up in a depression, and saved the world from fascism is rapidly disappearing. We owe them a big thanks before they are all gone. Where would we be without the soldiers who left the farms and factories, or the women who took their first jobs to work in defense plants? So, before they are all gone, give them a big thanks.

This is a day when I always remember my father's last war story. He had been telling us the "fun stuff" for years, the funny things that happened, the people he met, making an adventure out of what had to be a rough time.

When his memory was going, though, he had a lucid moment and told me a truly harrowing tale. He was 73 at the time, and for a moment, while he was sobbing it out, I saw the very frightened and horrified young man he must have been.

Fortunately, a few moments later he had forgotten what he told me. I found an account of the incident later, in a divisional record of the war.

It really is a hard thing to remember war, and fear, and death. I think, though, that remembering those who came through it as human beings is an act of faith.

Thank god for the patriot warriors...

A moment of silence for them all and God bless them!!!
