"Wake up.... Goddammit, wake up... I can't lug your ass forever..," Kynn growled out, tugging a young man along beside her as she tried to keep herself standing. She wasn't even sure of where she was going... Just that she had to keep moving. Had to keep heading away from that damned building. They were the only two left... They couldn't stay in that hellhole.

Peacehaven was supposed to be a city of hope, the rebirth of society after World War III. Not much had been left... and fears still hung above the populus that it would happen again. Technology continued to evolve, and with it, the paranoias of the people. Fears that the technology would become too destructive, uncontrolable.

Angel Corporation tried to calm these fears, saying they had the perfect solution... they said they could also prevent the sicknesses of chemical warfare from taking more lives. They just needed... experiments. Over the past 7 years, children had been dissappearing throughout Peacehaven. Kynn, her currently unconscious friend, and 4 others had been one of the experimental subjects.

The other 4 had died in that time.

Kynn and the man with her had escaped, his deactivation of the power grid having strained him so badly he had passed out from the strain. She had been carrying and dragging him for what seemed like hours... but Angel Corp still stood like a defiant giant behind them. Their patrols would find them if she sat in one place for too long. Keep moving, keep thinking, keep breathing. Ignore the pain. Just keep moving.
"Wake up, damn it..."

The silence was deafening. An empty black nothingness. No color, no light, no sound. He could not even hear the beat of his own heart, couldn't feel it, yet somehow, he knew it was pounding. His thoughts were distorted, his mind confused and disorientated. Where was he? Who was he? What was he? Was he even real? Did he truly exist in this dark void? Was he just a dream thought up by some sleeping mind? He knew not. Nothing.

His mind screamed out for answers, for some shred of evidence to his existence. Finally, a name came to him. Kiro.... My name is Kiro.... Kironus Kinderphil...

His name was Kiro, but where was he, and why was he there.. As his mind continued to search for answers, then slowly came to him... His parents had died when he was a young child, Keith and Miranda, they were. He had gone to the orphanage... Then another name came to him -- Kynn... Yes, Kynn. She was the prettiest girl in the orphanage. They became best friends.. Her eyes were a golden brown, full of kindness and caring for her friends. Her short hair blew slightly when there was a breeze, shining a light brown under the sunshine. Kiro had grown to adore her almost instantly.

Yes, such happy memories... Where had it all gone? Kiro and Kynn, friends forever... More questions, he wondered. Answers, came they did. Seven years ago... Yes, it had happened seven years ago... They were children, no more than Kynn thirteen and Kiro fourteen.... That world, that safe, normal life was shattered overnight. They were violently pulled from their sleep, them and four of their friends, and thrown into a pool of war and chaos, death and destruction. Their safe, loving haven melted away behind them, leaving only the cruel, cold truth, and they forever left the days of their childhood behind, stepping into the dark and disturbing world of adulthood, with only the faint light of a match to show them the way.

We were kidnapped! Abducted by the Angel Corporation! Tested on like lab rats! Seven years of cruel experiments to make us “better” humans! The powers, ah yes, the wonderful powers. Enhanced reflexes, strength, speed.. Kinetic energies at our fingertips... But the horrible darkness within us! No, it is not a gift, it’s a curse! Cursed monsters, we are! We have to escape, we have to free ourselves!

Wait, we already did! I collapsed the power grid with my powers! I... I must wake up.. Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

“Wake up, damn it...” Kynn’s voice finally broke through the darkness. He heard her, heard the one he loved above all others. She was calling to him, begging him to awaken...Slowly, his sky blue eyes finally opened, and his lips curled into a smile.

“Just five more minutes Mommy,” he croaked, his dirty blonde hair matted to his forehead by sweat. “I don’t wanna go to school yet.”

Kynn tucked them into an alleyway, trying to hide... Trying to think... Trying to keep the tears from coming. What were they going to do now? She couldn't even get Kiro to come out of it. How was she supposed to keep them safe until he awoke?

She sat up from the small dirtpile as she heard him muttering behind her. "Kiro. Hey. Easy now...," She moved beside him, wiping her bloody, dirtied hand against her pants to try and clean it a bit before cradling his head slightly. "We're free, Kiro. You did it. You got us out."

She stopped talking for a moment, sucking in a breath as footsteps passed them. Not much to hide in, during the day. The sun blinded out most every shaded area, leaving her to rely on the dirt and boxes to cover them from the naked eye. The steps passed slowly, a soft sigh of relief coming from her.

"I don't know what to do, Kiro." She looked down at him, glad to see his blue eyes once again. "I just... I just ran. I grabbed you and ran. Hopefully we'll be safe in the city. We can hide here..." She leaned back against the wall, closing her eyes. She hurt, everywhere. Fire seemed to burn down her sides, a pain she hadn't felt before. She hadn't thought about herself when she was running.

Keep Kiro safe. Keep them away. Keep moving.

She lifted her shirt a bit, groaning as she found the blood. Angel Corp hadn't been willing for their projects to leave.. Shots had been fired at them as they cleared out of the compound. She thought she had avoided them so well.

"Lift up your shirt," Kynn said suddenly, turning to him and tugging at it herself. "I need to see."

“What?” he said with a start, then looked down as she slid his shirt up his chest. he had indeed been hit, in the side. Though, there was no gushing blood, he didn;t even feel any pain from it. It appeared to have missed any organs. Taking a deep breath, Kiro pushed himself into a sitting position, his back against the wall next to Kynn. “You’re shot to. We need to get to a doctor immediately.” Suddenly, Kiro stood, then moaned as he felt a sharp pain in his side. The bullet was still inside him, he realized. Taking a deep breath, he held his hand a few inches away from the wound. Focusing his energy, his fingertips began to crackle with tiny bolts of blue-white light. Biting down on his other hand, he sent the bolts into the wound, trying to muffled his moans of pain as the static pulled out the metal bullet.

The bullet dropped into the ground with a few dings, then sat back down. “Make sure you don’t have any bullets in you either. They may have passed all the way through.”

With a nod, she lifted her shirt again, using the static charge of her own hand to draw out the few bullets embedded inside her. She gave a pained grunt, closing her eyes as she tried to keep from crying out. The metal slugs fell to the ground, Kynn following as she slunk against the wall.
"I don't trust doctors," She said softly. "I only trust you, Kiro. I don't want them touching me. Too many people touched me in Angel Corp..." She hugged her arms about herself, shaking her head. "They touched our friends... they- they killed them..."
She leaned her head against his shoulder, closing her eyes. "I'm scared, Kiro..." Her eyes opened enough to look up at the city skyline. "I'm afraid they'll find us. That they'll make us go back."
