I take February 23/23, 7am Kiev time.

“Unlike strategic arms such as intercontinental ballistic missiles, conventional weapons capable of carrying tactical nuclear warheads do not give off apparent signals when they are put on alert.

“For those smaller nuclear weapons, we’re probably not going to know,” a U.S. government official with access to intelligence on Russia’s nuclear forces and strategy was quoted as saying by Politico.”

Vladimir Putin is now the first dictator in history to annex lands while his army is in the process of retreating.

I hope the Ukrainians ultimately "annex" some Russian territory. Vlad has to go...

I annexed your moms ass last night.

Thats not directed at anyone. I just wanted to say it cuz it made me smile

Shout out to all those decades of Republican Defence Spending.

Thanks!

I'm trying to noodle out exactly where Putin may use the 'tactical' nukes? I don't discount that he may become desperate enough, or unhinged enough, just the where.

Tactical nukes are 'dirty', without getting into the physics of the devices they are 'dirty' by their nature. The radio-logical effects are relatively localized meaning that NO ONE is going to be occupying that territory any time soon. They are as dangerous to the entity that employs them as they are the target of those weapons. From an aggressor's standpoint they make no sense, however they do as a last ditch defender's point of view. They are very effective, to use an archaic term, at establishing a radioactive 'moat' that the attacker has to deal with.

And that brings us to the current situation in Eastern Ukraine. The break-away provinces have voted to join Russia. It doesn't matter what we think about the validity of the vote (it's bullshit). All that matters is what Putin believes. If the Ukrainians continue with their incursion into the break-away provinces Putin may feel fully justified in creating that radioactive 'moat.'

He seems to be operating on the principle that the West has become paralyzed by indecision and vacillation.

I believe that eventually Putin will order nuke bombers into the air over Ukraine.

I also believe they will be met with stealth aircraft and told to go home. Eventually a no fly zone will be placed over Ukraine.

Putin will probably pound the table and order a first strike. At which point his Presidency will end.

Do you think Putin has carbon powered nukes?

Not sure where Putin could detonate a tac nuke without taking out some of his own forces. A hit on Kiev would probably result in an attempt to sink his navy and mine all Russian ports, don’t think the West would retaliate with a nuclear strike of their own. SUICIDAl to escalate with a nuclear response. IMHO

Maybe a detonation over the Black sea or the sea if Asov?

Yes, tactical nukes are not small by any shape of the imagination. A comparative artillery delivered one would be similar to what happened in Hiroshima. Big mess, lots of radiation, and the wind would blow that right to Russia.

I disagree.I truly hope Biden, and others have made sure he understands, resorting to nukes, will lead to MAD.

My thoughts are: If he detonates a nuke: first we sink all his boomers ( pretty sure we know where they are most of the time anyhow),second target his air force bombers, third hit his silo based missile complexes then fire a targeted response at where ever he is deemed to be located. Should be doable within 5 or 10 min after the detonation is known to be a tactile nuke.

I'm pretty confidant this message went to Xi as well. It would serve to keep him in his place too.

There can be no fucking around if this person decides to go Nuclear....we are better off blowing up the northern hemisphere, than living in a world where people like Putin can just decide to annex a neighbour who didn't ask to be annexed. Then when his ass is defeated, he resorts to the nuclear option....

So if you're worried....I'd suggest immigrating south...and on a final note, you'd not have to worry about those migrants.....they'd not be heading your way anymore...the US would be too radioactive....*chuckles*

One tac nuke is mere Saber rattling. To escalate to full exchange is suicidal for Putin. Canada is in between the U.S. we go radio active you go radio active *chuckles*

That is the point, no nukes ever, you use one, what stops you from another. Only MAD, even Reagan understood this. I am fully aware of Canada's location in all this, and I 100% vote to launch em all if Putin shoots one....where are you're balls?

It has something to do with looking into my grand daughter’s eyes.

So, you think there have not been granddaughters and grandfathers killed in Ukraine? War isn't pretty or fair. Putin uses one nuke, wipe Russia off the face of the earth. That is the only message that works to dictators and bullies. Don't agree,it just shows you're a fucking coward, and only worried about you and yours, not the other 7 billion.

Having spent 30+ years as a commissioned officer in the U. S. Army and highly trained in NBC warfare you have no clue to the carnage and suffering that would be brought upon the human race in the name of bravado, simply said you’re an ignorant fuck. On tac nuke detonation does not require a full exchange. There are other ways to inflict severe pain on Putin without destroying the planet.

I don't care if you spent 40 years as a commissioned officer, or an NCO. If you did, it shows you learned nothing!!

I am very coginsant of the implications of the retaliation against Putin using a tactile Nuke. Maybe you should read Princeton's wargame study on this eh?

https://nuclearprinceton.princeton....ce-and-global-security-nuclear-war-simulation

That said, one nuke does require a full scale attack, otherwise there is no such thing as using "just one nuke". Do you think for a second one nuke will stop Ukraine? It won't, in fact I suspect the Ukraine would be even more motivated...and invade the actual Russia.

And if Ukraine doesn't stop, what do you think is going to prevent Putin from using a second, or a third or a fourth....god you are so fucking stupid!!!!!!!!!!!

My only saving thought is you're not the one in charge.

The only way to prevent one nuke,is to make sure the other party knows, you will retaliate with a full launch. Period end of story. If Putin uses that one nuke, then you better put your head between your ass and kiss it good bye.

I truly hope Putin is bluffing, or if he orders it, his comanders don't follow through, and shoot him instead. But if he does order, and his Generals fire one, then I 110% support a full scale retaliation, like "no one has never seen before"!

Perhaps you don’t comprehend the difference between your google button and a nuclear football. MAD was the description of a strategic initiative in the case of a preemptive full scale nuclear attack against the West assuring a counter attack would result in total annihilation. You have no clue and stop pretending that you do.
