Past pain and bondage...

I am new to exploring the BDSM culture and was intrigued by a posting by Vixandra in the thread Vanilla sub about how the BDSM culture is very diverse and that it isnt all about pain and bondage.

So... to satisfy my curious mind, I would love to know what else there is... from anyone, what things do you enjoy doing that are included within the realms of BDSM ... from subs, slaves, Dom/mes and sensualists ... and please feel free to include some pain and bondage aspects, as i am not too sure yet if i am or am not into that yet

not everyone is into the whole part of bdsm. I personally and more into the bondage, and the dominant/submissive part. While I like a little pain, I don't like much, and my hubby doesn't like to cause more than a little pain. There are some people who are more into the sado/masochism part than I, wanting to be in/cause a lot of pain. And other's aren't as into the bondage. And their are some, still, who aren't into the D/s part.

There are all sorts of bdsm subcultures, or even fringe groups. A few that come immediately to mind are the spankers (I mean people who are into spanking exlcusively and not all the other stuff), the ticklers (wherever you go in bdsm, you'll always find those darn ticklers!), the love bondage people (very gentle bondage), the humiliation-sissy slave folks (crossdressing), the adult babies, the bdsm or erotic hypnotists, the pee lovers, the ponygirls and ponyboys (or doggies or piggies, or moo cows--forced lactation), the forced-sex enthusiasts and experimenters, the public humiliation crowd, the body-mod crowd (particularly those who do the bodymods that really hurt, like cuttings), the trampling or face-sitting fetishists (these come in both sexes, although most are men), the people whose fetish is leather, latex, or other badass clothing and like to dress up erotically and socialize. There are dozens of subcategories just to bondage: from people who like highly stylized japanese rope bondage to people who like crucifixion to people who like complete mummification in plaster casts. There's prison/guard roleplaying enthusiasts. There's an orgasm-control/chastity belt subgroup. Some peoples' biggest kink is giving or recieving verbal humiliation. Others like to belly punch. Others like to give verbal humiliation while they belly punch. There are those who turn oral sex into an act of extreme bdsm, I call them the face-fuckers and gaggers. And there's people who fetishize control more than anything else--they tend to form master-slave relationships. Oh, I almost forgot the "lets play doctor" crowd--people who enjoy or fetishize painful, intrusive, or humiliating medical exams.

There are many, many more subgroups, I'm just scratching the surface here. The thing is, people in all of these groups are liable to label what they are into as 'bdsm,' so you when you talk to someone new who is a potential love interest, it's important to try to establish what of all this different stuff he or she is into, as it may be very different than the group of things you are into.

You got that right. I am holding back...the giggles. A lot of the wacko stuff really is less scary than silly...but there are a few things... Ok, Taint will make a try at the really weird shit list tommorow, if somebody hasn't beat me to it first.

I'm not going to beat to a list, but I want to plug the use of the BDSM checklist. It's not complete, but I feel it does a good job of 'covering the bases'. It lets you see if the potential partner you're speaking with is going to want to explore the same areas as you do. No sense starting a relationship with someone into public humiliation if that's just not something you're into.

I'm sure there are other checklists. This is just the one I know about and have used. Hell you can just use the checklist as a stepping off point for research. There were even a couple of things I had to look up the first time I read through the list. However, this list doesn't go into some of the really weird crap so you'll just have to wait for the list Taint has promised you.
