my son forgot the password for a WP 6.1 file containing a story he is writing. anyone have shareware to decrypt?

i myself dont know of any, but these people might:

pretty smart people, you just have to be honest about it, as cracking passwords is not somthing most people want to get involved with.

John the Ripper

There are several programs available for cracking passwords, but most of them were written for cracking site access passwords. One possibility is John the Ripper version 1.6. I am not sure if it can help you out, but it might. Do a google search on john and password cracker and you can find a link to download. It is good for getting linux passwords.....

Here is another option. Try this link and see if this program will work for you.

It says it is a free trail period demo, so it might work, might not. But it may be worth a try.

thanks...we tried softpedia. I wil get my son to register on daniweb and try. More ideas would be welcome. He found a program that does 5.0 and another for 11+, but none for 6.

hmm....to bad. I don't have any other ideas at the moment. Tell your son that he should choose an alphnumeric code for a password and use it for everything, so that you don't run into this problem again.

he found a kid at school with a program. So now he's invulnerable again.

Next time it happens (and it will) pray he is still friends with the kid at school.

Or on second thoughts try here, ok so it only gives you the first two letters on the demo download, but that might give a big enough hint to what password he is using.

The demo is a freebie, so it is not a bad way of recovering the hint.

I think that's the one he ended up with.
