OOC: Beth is having another party. She has the best parties. The best music, the best booze, the best smoke, the best munchies, for those who imbibe....She never sent out invitations, she just told a few friends, who told a few friends. That way, the same old crowd didn't always show up.

Beth's house is on the beach, with a stretch of private beach running to the ocean. She had speakers out on the deck, so anyone out in the sand was still able to jam if they so desired.

Beth is 28, single. Thick lustrous Blonde hair, deep blue eyes. She is 5'4" tall, weighs around 120, muscular. She is funny, intelligent and loves to party.

IC: I had just put the wine out, and checked to make sure I had enough ice. Last time, the ice ran out, and I had to run into town....The party was supposed to start at 9, it was quarter til. I was excited, I loved to party. Iloved people. People liked to party with me, so it worked out.

I wondered what tonite would bring....

IC : a close friend of Betty's.

I'm Mark, 30 and married. Betty and I go way back, and I mean way back.

Anyway, I've been to a couple of her parties, and I must say, there was something that made me come back for more. Due to the nature of it, I've never let my wife tag along; neither do I tag along with her. But anyway, tonight was an exception; I wanted to let her know I had nothing to hide from her.

I peered up at the digital clock in the car - 8.51. I glanced to my wife June at the front seat and smile to myself. She looked absolutely gorgeous. Spotting the familar road sign, I make a left turn, and pull up at Betty's driveway...

I noticed Marks car pulling up the drive. He had told me he was bringing his wife June this time. I had never met her, though they had been married or several years. I was a part of Marks past that he kept apart from his present life. I didn't question it. He was my friend. I would make his wife comfortable, and hoped she would have a good time.

OOC: The party is an open invitation. If you want to take part, grab a character of your creation, and lets party!

Dr. Thor

OOC: Thor met BETH when she was a student at Ocean State U. Thor was her advisor for her master's thesis on "Marketing in the Third World." Thor spent several years in Kenya and is a recognized expert on Africa. Although there was an attraction, nothing ever happened as Thor was married at the time, and he never mixed business with pleasure. The other day BETH saw Thor on the street and asked him if he would like to drop in to her party. Thor is hard to type. He appears to be somewhere in his mid-40's. Most people don't remember much except his piercing blue eyes, eyes that can shift from laser blue to iceberg cold.

IC: On a whim, I set out down the beach. Beth is a very attractive woman and I need to get away from academics for awhile. Much to my surprise, I found that Beth lived about a half mile from my small apartment overlooking the ocean.

I walked up from the beach side, climbed the couple of steps to the deck and announced, "Hello, Beth, are you here?"

BETH

I heard Thor before I saw him. I was surprised that he had decided to come to my party. I had always been attracted to him. He was somewhat of a mentor to me. He was also married when I knew him, and I didn't play that game.

I had run into him the other day, and just invited him. I saw that even after the years, he hadn't changed much. Still those incredible eyes. Always those incredible eyes.

"Hey Thor." I said as I slid open the glass door. Welcome. Make yourself at home, there is beer in the Fridge, and wine, plus whatever else you want if you prefer a mixer. I took his arm and introduced him to Mark and his wife June. "It is early yet, but it promises to be a good night."

I left him to his drink preparing as I went to the CD player, making sure it was loaded. It held 300 CD's so we weren't likely to run out of music. My taste runs to old rock and roll, with some newer stuff mixed in. I had all different Bands mixed together, something for everyone.

I stood up and turned around and found my self gazing at Thors back. Solid muscle. His silvery hair was curling about his collar. How often have I wanted to run my hands thru that hair of his.....

OOC: Moon, 5'7" blonde hair, blue eyes, about 130 lbs and still a girlish figure for her 40+ years.

IC:

Moon worked at Ocean State U as staff support when Beth was a student there. She was also in her mid 40's and didn't usually attend parties unless the crowd was more her age, but wanted to see the place Beth was living, as she heard it was so beautiful. Another former student had visited me, and mentioned the party, so I thought I'd like to at least stop in and say hello. I always did like her. My druggie days were long over, though I would partake in a casual drink. I figured I wouldn't have to stay long if the party wasn't my type.

I admired the view as I stepped up to the front door and knocked.

Dr Thor

Reaching into the cooler, I pour myself a glass of the Vouvray. With a bow to Mark and June, I turn toward the door to see the new arrival. I recall seeing her around the University, but I can't place exactly where.

"Oh my," I think, as I hear a Buddy Holly tune coming from the speakers,"music that I enjoy." Humming to myself to the tune of Peggy Sue, I decide to have a snack from the plentiful buffet-style table. For a young woman, Beth is doing very well for herself. Forget woman, very well...period.

I smiled as I saw Moon come up to the door. It was really cool to see my college professors showing up at one of my parties. I held regular parties. I had a Financial consulting firm, that was doing very well. I also had a friend who managed my stock portfolio, so I was in good shape. I was who I was because of some of the people in this room.

"Welcome Moon. I believe you know Dr. Thor?" I said taking her arm and leading her into the big room. My house was just one big room downstairs. The living room, kitchen, dining room were all together. There was a rest room off the kitchen, but the bedrooms were upstairs in the loft. Part of the deck was glassed in and contained a game room. I showed her where the drinks were, and where the munchies were set up. "Help yourself, and I am glad you are here."

I then walked over to Dr. Thor. "Are you finding everything alright?" I asked, not taking my eyes off of his. I wondered if he saw the challenge there? I put my hand on his arm, "Let me know if there is anything at all that you desire." Then I walked away.

I followed Beth into the room, and was surprised to see Dr. Thor here.

"Why yes, Dr. Thor, good to see you again." I remember he caused quite a few women to flutter a bit like a twit, when he was around. I'd laugh to myself, and watch him as he was oblivious to any of it. Being married myself at the time, he didn't have quite the same effect on me, though I had always admired him both personally, and professionally. I wondered if he was still married?

I turn back to Beth and catch her just as she's walking away from Thor.

"Looks like you are doing quite well for yourself." I begin, "I'm so happy to see you. I hear you have a Financial consulting firm. Congradulations on your success."

Beth

I turned to face Moon. I grinned at her. "I had excellant guidance." I said to her. I had started at Ocean U with no clue. I was unfocused and my goals were all over the place. "I was blessed to have instructors who took an interest in me. Who recognized my potential." I blushed because I was feeling silly, talking like that. But it was true. They challenged me and pushed me up.

I hugged Moon, and said, "thank you for coming tonite." I grinned at her and said,"Go have fun." Then I turned to see who else had arrived. I caught sight of myself in the glass doors. I looked fine. Wearing simple silk trousers and a silk sleevless sweater, both black. I looked around, Mark was enjoying himself with his wife. She looked like she was having a nice time. I went over to the bar and got a glass of white wine.

Smiling after her, I too poured a glass of wine for myself. Looking around the room, I began introducing myself and mingling.

I was walking down the beach with Puddels, the wonder poodle, when we heard the music. Pudds loves to party, but has a hard time holding her beer. 30 inches at the shoulder and wieghing in at 85 lbs, she pretty much goes where she wants. When she heard the music and saw the people, she went onto sled dog mode and invited us to the party.

Pudds the wonder poodle was a neighborhood dog. She lived with her master, but was friend to all of us that lived on the beach. I saw her coming up the beach with her master Sam(unless you want another name). I opened the glass doors and invited them in. I had never met Sam in more than a hey how ya doin type way. I handed him a beer and put down a saucer for Pudds with only water....in a corner. I was glad to see my guests were enjoying themselves.

Close your eyes, let the tunes wash over you.
Can you feel the music in your veins yet, really feel it?
If so...
wanna Danse?

I was wondering around the party, trying to decide if I wanted to stay, when I saw these words posted on her fridge.

I froze.

Something echoed in my head that I couldn't quite grasp. Something familiar, a male voice. It sang out about dancing on the edge. come dance with me, it said.

I kept trying to grasp this moment that must have meant something to me, but it was slippery....intangible. So familiar, yet . . . . . .

Beth was one those nieghbors who was always arround, but was never intrusive. I had wanted to get to know her better for a long time, and this looked to be my best oppertunity yet. Her kind acceptance of the wonder poodle spoke volumes, as did the rather eccentric decore for her beach house. Somehow it worked and looked good. I decided to sit in the corner and watch the dynamics (and make sure that pudds was on her best behavor).

I noticed Sam was sitting alone in the corner, watching the room. Pudds had found a place on the kitchen floor where she could lay and watch the action, but was in no danger of being stepped on.

I smiled at Sam, and walked over to him. "I am glad you are here. Would you like to meet my other guests?" I didn't want to push him. He was a guy who sort of kept to himself, and since I liked to mind my own business, I never got around to really getting to know my neighbors.

I waited for his response.

"Sure, I'd love to meet your guests, but even more I want to get to know you, at least as well as Puds. I hope no one plays any Dixie Chicks, she likes to harmonize. Can be embarassing."

I grinned and said, that Pudds couldn't be any worse than some of the guests get. I took him over and introduced him to Dr. Thor, and Moon, Mark and June. I looked at my watch. It was nearing 9:30. I cetainly hoped more people showed up.

After I had made my introductions, I went out to the deck. What do you want to know about me Sam? And, if I answer your questions, you have to answer mine....

I greet Sam warmly when Beth introduces him to me, and turn to Dr. Thorn after they leave.

"So, Dr. Thor, what have you been up to the last few years?" I ask. "I'm just getting used to single life myself. My divorce was final just a year ago this month."

Thor

Chuckling, I say to Moon, "Forget the Dr. stuff. That's to impress students. I'm just Thor. I have been busy, Moon. I've written a couple of articles, done some research, a bit of consulting, and, of course, carried my usual 9 hours per semester. Oh, I almost forgot. I was a visiting professor at The University of Kenya for the better part of a year. Divorced, you say. I went through that too. What have you been doing to keep busy, Moon?"

"Besides fighting with my ex constantly to get him to adhere to all he agreed with in the divorce settlement you mean? Trying to learn to be single again I guess. Haven't really started dating, and most of my girlfriends are married or have moved away. I did join a gym and work out three times a week." I say. "My son just started college, and I've been having to pay for it up front, then fight my ex for what he was supposed to have already put away for him. It's been an exhausting nightmare."

"Of course, after all fair's fare," I agreed.

"We can start at the present and work our way back, till we get bored. That's probally better then starting at the beginning, bored."

"I'm mostly retired from the retail bussiness. Still consult a little, write a little, read alot. Keep puds excerized... And you?"

Thor

"Our split up was more amicable, I guess, if you call losing 2/3 of my limited assets amicable. Her lawyer was an attack dog," I laughingly tell Moon. "My little place down the beach reflects the event. I should dub it 'crash of '95."

"How about some finger food", I ask, as I nod toward the buffet table. I hope my face didn't reflect the double entendre that just went through my mind. My puckish humor gets me into trouble at times.

I was watching the by-play between Thor and Moon. I was feeling a mixture of gladness, because they were both great people, but I was also feeling a small frission of envy. I was incredibly attracted to Thor. I always had been, but I missed my chance years ago, when he was married. I sighed and thought, well, so be it. I kind of liked the way Sam smiled at me. Pudd was still watching the room quietly. The CD player came on and began playing Eagles Hotel California. I went to the bar and got another glass of wine.

Mark and June were sitting quietly in a corner, talking, touching each other. I asked everyone if they wanted to play a game...It was a rather risque game, so to keep those with fragile sensiblilities happy, those who wanted to play, could come into the game room.

"Come on this way, if you want to play my little game." Isaid, leading the way into the game room. It was a darkly panelled room, with one glass wall, overlooking the ocean. There was a Mahogany pool table, and black leather easy chairs scattered around. I took my wine and sat in one the chairs, hoping someone would like to join me. It was no fun to play this game on my own.
