A three year old girl went missing in Portugal overnight. She was holiday in the Algarve with her British parents and appears to have been abducted from the apartment where they were staying, the shutters had been forced open to gain entry to the apartment.

The family were part of a group of nine adults and eight children on holiday together, the rest of the group were eating at a restaurant several hundred yards from the apartment, leaving the infant at home by herself.

Everyone hopes the child is found quickly and unharmed.

I wonder about parents. Who would do this, leave an infant at home alone in a strange country. Why didn't one of the party babysit?

The parents are complaining about a lack of police response, I can easily imagine their response, that must be wonderng in this child loving country what on earth possessed the parents to leave the child by herself. I don't think this family yet realises the trouble they are in, it is a crimnal offence in most countries to leave an infant by itself.

The mother stated, 'she's a very pretty blond haired child so she will be easy to spot if she is with a Portuguese family'. It's emotion speaking, only natural, but it betrays a naivity that begins to explain their wanton disregard for this infants safety.

I hope she is safe.

They made it illegal here to leave your child in their car seat unless you had a line-of-sight at all times. They had to because of car-jackings that happened while parents ran into the convenience stores, leaving sleeping children in their car seats to avoid the headache of waking them up. It's sad because you feel horribly for the grieving parent, but it does make you want to shake them for doing something so irresponsible.

That's awful... People just don't think. They don't use their brains, and they're obviously devoid of common sense. *Shakes head sadly*

I won't even leave the top down on my car to run into a store. I doubt I'll ever leave my kid in the car seat. I'm too paranoid.

We do hope she is safe, of course. I agree they showed lack of responsibility by leaving her alone. It happens too often in the world today for a parent not to be thinking of their children at all times, on holiday or at home.

I also have to wonder about the other adults in the group. If any knew the child was alone, why they didn't think it odd. Just My opinion too.

But on the flip side, it's sad that you can't leave your child alone in the car for a minute while you run into the store to buy a drink, a snack, or something.

My best friend pulled a 3 year old girl out of a burning car. Her mother was in our shop buying some flowers. Bet she never leaves her daughter in the car again.

Thanks, but I can't remember where I found it. I'm not to computer savvy, so it was pure luck that I saved it and shrank it to av size!
