Unfortunately the invention was never a great outcome for the two who co-invented it.

The man who discovered nylon did not realize what he created. Wallace Carothers committed suicide by cyanide after discovering nylon for Dupont and that of neoprene as well. Granted the man did not create the manufacturing process, but never felt accomplished despite scientific awards and numerous successes in chemistry. Sixteen months before nylon was introduced to the world, he took his own life. Too bad; as soon as nylon derived stockings were showcased at the 1939 world fair, it was a huge sensation selling 40 million pairs in its first year of commercial production.

Earnest G Rice did not commit suicide, but did not have it much better. He combined stockings and the panty to form pantyhose, but his invention was stolen by many other companies and only after a full lifetime of lawsuits was he awarded as the rightful inventor years after his death.

But I FULLY agree with you, it is the greatest invention ever!
