Sacred Sexuality

Does your spiritual philosophy hold sexuality as a divine rite and expression of union? One that can be used to propel one's evolution?

Or do you consider sex to be a hindrance to enlightenment?

Most of western humanity’s sexual history has been heavily influenced by the teachings of patriarchal, fundamentalist style religions. Many forbid the enjoyment of sex independently of reproduction, in effect, regressing humanity to a pre human stage of evolution.

With the exception of some ascetics, eastern philosophies are more inclined to embrace the integration of our sexual and spiritual natures, seeing the two as mutually enhancing to each other. Indeed, the vital energy created during intercourse and at the time of orgasm is a powerful creature.

I know most people here are open and honest about their sexuality and mostly it falls into the light, casual column. Many of you will say you are not guilty or shameful, tis the nature of the beast on Lit. J But the fact still is, because of society’s specs, many of us don’t use real picture AV’s, share this with their S/O, friends or family.

We may not be ashamed but most of society would still consider this site evil. I see sex as a catalyst...

I dont put my real pic on here because i enjoy the anonymous confessional attitude of the board...I can say things on here, express who i really am, and not be worried that someone is going to show up on my doorstep asking why i am such a freak. Its not beucase i am ashamed, of myself or my sexual practices. In fact, i am pretty proud of my experience and openness, especially when we are at the core, still very sexually repressed.
I have done the casual sex thing in my younger days...and i felt like a whore. Now, i still may not wait months before getting into a sexual relationship...but i consider the act of sex highly spiritual. IMHO when you are having sex with a person, you really are merging your souls. For the most part, your blocks are down, and your spiritual energy is free to mingle with theirs, and vicce versa. Every person i have ever slept with has changed me somehow, some more than others...but i believe every union changes us somehow. I just wish that there was a way for our society to be comfortable with sex, without trivializing it. There is no older ritual. There isn't a better way for me to celebrate and honor the god/desses of fertility, love, passion and nature. We have changed it from the celebrated ritual it is in many cultures to a dirty, sinful thing. Sexual power can suddenly be wielded only by those with 20 inch waists, and silicone breasts. Clebrities, supermodels. The idea of sexuality has become so stilized. I think it is becuase, cultures used to ostrasize those with sexual appeal, or peoplewho were not afrid of their sexuality, label them as whores and tramps, because stripping away their dignity stripped away their power...and people in our highly sophisticaed society are afriad of it. Hope that makes sense...I just woke up

i second what you have said, i think that our society does look down it far too much, theres nothing wrong weith making love

its not just "making love' though, it is all forms of sex and sexual appeal, they ridicule it, or try to otherwise remove the power from sex...to bad its impossible

well if they want to look on it as a seedy and sickening process of two beings getting together (or whatever happenes) then theyre just depriving themslkeves but i sure as hell dont agree with them openly looking down on those who do enjoy it

Sex is sacrament. A worship of both nature and one's partner. An embracing of the joy life has always had to offer. When you have sex with someone you care about, no matter how you do it, you do so in a specil, private and sacred space.

Not to be confused with Lit thread flirting. Which is neither private nor sacred, but nonetheless fun.

A minor, unusual rant from meself...

I am very tired of Pagans getting lumped together with Wiccans. My wish is that they were truly and completely seperated, but I know that its not possible these days.

Let it be known throughout the land that I am indeed a Pagan, a certified Herbalist and Doula, but do not belong to a Coven, or study under any High Priestess.

Also, someone mentioned that they thought that Pagan = anti-Christian. I informed them that Pagan simply means peasant. Farm communities give thanks for what they have recieved and pray for a bright future. The Christians and other religions did a fine job of trying to wipe out Paganism, but failed.

Let it be known throughout the land that I am by no means anti-Christian. How could I blame modern people for something that happened a long time ago?

Old wars between faiths are just plain stupid.

Planetary citizens join hands with your neighbors and remain hopeful that we can all survive another day.

um, huh? Being Wiccan doesn't mean you belong to a coven or have a teacher, or a high preistess. I consider myself to be Wiccan, and I am solitary. I had a teacher for a very breif time (maybe a few months several years ago) but for the most part have been self taught through books and networking with other Wiccans. I don't know why it would be so unbeliveably terrible for someone to call me Pagan, it wouldn't bother me, especailly if I would have to spend ten minutes explaining the difference to someone who wouldn't really care anyway. Some people don't know the difference, and for some people, there really isn't much difference...its not like one is good and wonderful while the other eats unborn children and sacrifices fluffy kittens after all...my point, there are a lot of other things to get up in arms over...

Thus, my RARE rant.

In my family the word Strega (witch) is a foul swear word, yet I have studied Stregaria in secret.

The term witch has been heavily bashed, but never died.

I am a Earth worshipper.

...so, um, take this comment in the sense that I am not trying to be mean or judgemental, I am genuinely curious as to your opinion...are you, then, prejuduced against wiccans?

Hello all... this has come up several times before on this thread. Paganism is a broad category encompassing Wicce as well as many other non Judeo-Christian religions....

I'm of the opinion that a Pagan is simply, well, a simple person, adhering to the turn of natures cycles.... Wicce is only one branch on this tree of life.

The tenets of Wicce are still structual and somewhat limiting, if followed in the traditional Gardnerian way, but it doesn't mean you have to belong to a coven in order to be Wiccan...

Aren't we all, Wiccan and/or Pagan and Christian (and 10000's of other belief systems) alike, just trying to live in tune with eachother?

Maybe I misinterperet, Gypsy... but we are not striving for seperation but integration

I try to stay out of conversations like this simply because I feel the way that gypsy feels. Not that we should maintain separation but that we should explore those differences that make up the term *PAGAN*.

I have never identified as Wiccan. Too much structure for the likes of me. It drives me absolutely nuts when someone asks my religious preference and I respond *pagan* and they come back with "Oh, Wiccan?"

Not that I disagree with the tenets of such. Just like I adore *true* Christians...and by that I mean people who try to accept everyone...as the bible taught (Love the sinner, hate the sin). I know, I know tis all a ramble..but what I mean, everyone, is that those of us who practice outside of any set religion hate to be grouped in so that people can understand us better. Did that make sense??

Hi. I'm Mary Jane. I'm 21, from New Hampshire.

I have always been interested in fantasy fiction and SCA type activities, so I thought I knew a bit about paganism, but from your discussion here, I see that there is a lot more to it than I thought!

I've always liked your face, especially your cheekbones... Kissing now, licking those cheekbones and earlobes...

I was brought up in a very strict Christian family. Sex was definitely considered a very dirty bad thing.
I started going with my boyfriend in 11h grade and just broke up with him a couple of months ago. He is the only person I have ever had sex with.

I have a feeling that my lack of sexual fulfillment and my dissatisfaction with my religious background are both part of the same problem. So I am very interested in how people see the two things being related.

Stay tuned...

Where did my beautiful, sweet, sexy Pet go?
