Pagan Corner

Sounds like hurtme's Samhian was great too.

Here it is the morning after and I am still feeling so great! Why oh why didn't I find this path a long time ago? Oh...heh...never mind...probably wouldn't have been ready for it until now.;)

Clear sky, cool temps, fresh air, *sigh*

I am thinking of a James Brown song right now...

"I FEEL GOOD" :D

Hi Coolidge,

Samhain marks the Celtic New Year. It was the time of the final harvest, that of the animals that would not survive the winter... It is more of a New Years Eve... because the whole holiday is a time when the veils between the worlds are thinnest. But twilight and midnight especially because these are also 'tween or 'twixt times. Not really day or night/night or day for that moment.

The time between Samhain and Yule (winter Solstice) is the waiting time, like when a babe (The Sun God) is in the womb, not yet ready to be born. We don't yet know what the new year will bring, but we dream, and imagine, and plan!

No matter how you celebrated, I hope you had fun! That's, afterall what life's about
:rose:

Thanks Image,

I was thinking of Samhain as New Years Eve but the classification seemed to be boxing it and deminishing it. Also I wondered if I was influenced by the fact the it lands on the end of the month of October not the First of November. Giving the impression of an ending rather then a beginning.

So the dreaming and anticipation are what all the seed cataloges are about.

I try to be open an non judgemental (although I am human and therefore prone to failing occasionally) so take this the be amusing, cause thats how I found it. I work at a convience store, and I thought it was funny as hell when these regular cusomers...kind of like valley girls, came it at three or so sat morning and were going off about how halloween is there favorite holiday, blah blah blah....and they were trying to get me in on the conversation, talking about the parties and the drinking ( I wouldn't pass for normal outside work, but at work I have a uniform) and while they were talking about that, I was thinking of the circle, the gusting, almost violent winds, the fire, the chanting, the energy, the connnection to the earth and the divine...and I just laughed as I was thinking...if you only knew...

Image...

I had told you (way back when) that i would let you know just how we worked out our celebration. Well it sort of went like this...

Circle casting and calling corners (both done by my Fae wiccans)
Charge of the God/dess and sacred portal call (nocturnal)
Prayer for the dead (me..written expressly for that night)
Ritual sacrifice of all the bad we wanted gone from our lives (all of us...which fits as it is something we ALL shared path wise..basically using parchment, pens and a cauldron layered with coal)
Mirror scrying (took turns as everyone had someone that they wanted to contact or be remembered by)
Release of built up energy (for a group manifestation of something agreed to beforehand...and directed by me)
Thanks to God/dess (nocturnal)
Thanking the corners and drawing up the circle (Fae wiccans)

Burial of our sacrifice (icluding milk and cookies for our fairy friends)...me

There it is...we managed to involve everyone and had a most fulfilling magickal night. I wanted to thank both you and hurtme for the ideas. Take care

pet

Hi Pet,

It sounds like it all worked out perfectly. The elements present were everything a Samhain celebration should have been... It just goes to show, with an open mind, ideally we should all be able to celebrate together.

Would you be willing to share the ritual, further than just the outline, with us on this thread? I'll understand if not, but sharing and passing on has been traditionally how we all write/create our mythology.

Wiccans can only draw on the past 50 years or so. We are creating our own mythology day by day, someting to be told 2000 years from now....

I am proud to be part of the story

Hurtme,
Your celebration sounded incredible... all I can say is WOW! Quite an experience...

Image

thanks, it was incredible...I am a soliatary by nature and by choice, but occasionally I really do enjoy the big group ceremonies...especailly samhain...I mean, I do my own pritave ritual as well, but I just adore that particualr holiday, so any chance to celebrate. The wiccan who was running the show this year, who is a very good friend of mine....well, she wanted to plan it all herself, and we all said sure, if your up for it....well, I don't know where she got the idea, but I thought I would share it here, since I really liked it. She handed everyone a candle...ok, not so unusual...but then she said osmething really beautiful about turning negative energy into positive forces in our lives, and instead of making new years resolutions, which notoriously fail, we each use the energy we had created to make one wish on our candle, and throw it into the bonfire...

It sounds like such a neat ritual you had. I wish I had a group to be with and see things like this. I think it is a special and wonderous thing to have others to share with.

My own Samhain ritual was a combination, since I self-initiated too. I opened my circle, then I felt a need to change my plan a bit. I did the Samhain ritual first instead of my planned initiation. I kept the initiation for last. It ended up being 'right' as far as I felt.

I had to do mine indoors...the garage. heh...I was a bit self-concious to begin with... skyclad but by the end of the making of my circle I was very comfortable and...in...tune.

*sigh* I will be at work on the next full moon...Oh well...I have had ritual there...a bit...heh...a lot different. But it seems to work ok.:)

Merry meet and merry part and merry meet again:D

Curious, does this mean at the Full Moon we wont be able to be in touch? I know you work an on/off thing...

Say goodnight before you go if we wont see you for awhile...

 Oops...heh...yes...I leave in the morning for work. I'll be working nights this whole trip. Since I have a laptop now I may...and this is a big may, get to connect to lit, if I can make it all work I will. The phone system there isn't the best and I am told I may need a analog/digital converter to hook up to an ISP. Not sure yet, won't know till I am there, then I will have to wait until I get home to purchase anything I may need to make it work.

*sigh*

As always, you are in my thoughts though. I really love my lit buddies...a lot.:D

So with that all said...I guess this will be goodnight...for the next fifteen days or so. :D

Merry meet, merry part and merry meet again one and all.:rose: :)

Merry Meet!

Just thought I'd give this thread a bump up!

I was wondering about something. Is there any significance to when a couple gets back together on a sabbat? My boyfriend and I for the past year have been on again off again. We got on again on Beltane. Then had another break up...got back...then broke off again for about 3 weeks. We got back together again on Samhain. We had some really meaningful sex both those times. This time every thing is absolutely different from all the other times. I revealed things to him about me...deep personal things (stuff that has affected the relationship I think). He seems to have a better understanding of me now, not quite so critical of me. He even told me to come and be held when I am angry rather than run off to brood. And it helps! I feel as if Samhain was a whole new beginning.

Any thoughts from other PAGANS on this?

merry meet

well, it is our new year. but i think that your relationship is just evolving.

rituals and spells are to modify our behavior, the person who is casting, not the others - that's if you are wiccan. when you are used to considering a certain time as special, it could cause you to modify your behavior during that time. so i don't discount the influence of Samhain on your relationship.

did i make sense?

Think the 'Wheel of the Year' here...

The beginning... YULE the birth of the childe, the sun god
The goddess in all her wisdom gives birth... He is a beautiful childe...
IMBOLC... in the belly... a childe suckling the milk. The Earth, She's awakening
They grow together, a maiden & a childe... All the early spring, into pubescence... young, innocent, flirty love OSTARA.. a first kiss spellbound

BELTANE...In such passionate love they are now... never consummmated as yet but neither can barely beath anymore without the other...

Can His love be ever more undying? His strength, His passion, His Masculinity... I have never seen Him stronger or fiercer in His love for me.. LITHA

Still the energy flowing from the highest peak LUGHNASSADH... begins to wane.. There is no doubt. Is it intentional on both our parts?

Balance? I' beginning to wander about impending menopause
MABON

Samhain & Beltane are directly across from eachother (cross Quarters) They are both considred greater Sabbats, before the agricultual Sabbats (solstices and eqinoxes).... probably having to do with the breeding cycles of animals...

so it makes perfect sense...:) Aside from the fact that Beltane and Samhain are the most open time between the worlds... they are the most sensual

To be slightly more mundane about the whole thing, I have another idea, although the first one here was much more interesting. During traditional xtian holidays, emotions run high, thanksgiving, christmas, all that. People are nicer, they are more willing to forget, to move on, adn to be friends for it. They are more open to hearing each others sides, and they are more open to loving and accepting love...why should it be any different for pagan holidays? You may just be more receptive to him at this time, and even if he is not pagan, he may be responding to the flow of your energy...

Hey everyone! I'm afraid I never got back here to introduce myself properly so here I am!

About me...hmmm....I just turned 31, am married and have 2 girls, 10 and 6 years old. I have considered myself Pagan in title for only a few years but I imagine I have had a Pagan heart most of my life. I work in a bank....sometimes people make me crazy  and while I manage to be as patient as possible at work, rush hour traffic is another story. I live in Portland Oregon, land of rain and Powells Bookstore. Myself and a group of four other women get together several times a month for circle, sometimes we bead, have ritual together, watch a movie, eat, Goddess studies, whatever works for us that day. They are a great group of women.

I love lit, have written in a few threads but think I'll be spending more time just kicking around than getting too into another thread right now. I had been home with my girls up until January of this year when I went back to work and quite frankly I am lucky if my house is clean and we have food in the house. Who the heck has time to cook  Anyway, I am looking forward to getting to know all you lovely people and sharing some of our lives with eachother.

Blessings to you all~

Good morning Blue... well met :rose:

It sounds like you lead a busy life but filled with a lot of joy! I've always wanted to experience Oregon (and BC). I live in the Smokies now...

Welcome to the thread. Hope you find time to post often here. We look forward to it

Hallo Blue! I miss Portland so much...it's the only place I've ever lived that I get homesick for. It's such a supportive place to live as a Pagan too! I think Moonshadow is still around, the Lakeys are sweet people. :)

It is nearing the end of the harvest time, and I still have much to give thanks for! What a wonderful time of the year, cozying into hibernation...

Bright Blessings all!

Seems to me that there should be a ritual for the northern lights. I was at work the other night and we had a humdinger show of them. I had to wonder what the old ones thought of the northern lights. The lights this past night were on a waning moon, about half gone to new moon. They were spectacular though.

I got back this morning. Had a nice ritual on the full moon while at work, on my lunch time. It was a bit . . . short, mainly due to the place and time, but it was good. At least I felt much better afterwards.

Greetings all, delighted to see this thread on the GB, so just thought I would drop in to say hello.

One of the main reasons I love Alaska so much. the natural sights are so . . . fantastic.

I used to see them in Montana when growing up, then I learned that they originated in the far north. Now, I get to see them often enough to know that they are special each time, no matter the size or shape or color of them. And they do change quite frequently.

Hi guys...

Welcome back Curious  I have never seen the Northern Lights. They must be awesome! I was thinking of you just last night... Our group had a circle/ritual last night for one of our sisters who dedicated herself to the path. It was quite moving really. She was so nervous but looked beautiful

Hey guess what? I'm leaving tomarrow AM for vacation... Crescent Beach, Coconut Grove, Miami Beach and the Keys! Just for fun, if I could, what would have me bring back for you?

I bet Alaska getting a little chilly, huh?

Hi Astro :rose:

Anyone else want me to bring them anything?

I'm gathering ocean water to bring back. Where I live it's landlocked, so my circle is looking forward to it. The moon will be waxing so the water will be best used for magick to attract.

Peace & Adventure,
Gaia )0(

hmmmm. how about a tan?

I hope you have a great time. Enjoy the beach and ocean too.
There is something about sitting on a beach, anywhere at all it seems, and just getting attuned to the ocean. Once it gets in your blood, well, its there forever.:D

I know about being nervous. Even though i was by myself I was quite nervous as I began my ritual on Samhain. It turned out great though. Well, I think it did anyway.;) I learned many things, one of them being that I didn't mind being skyclad at all during my ritual. Matter of fact, after I got started, it seemed right and natural.

One more reason that I feel that I am on the correct path now.:)

Image, if you pick up a shell from the beach and bring it home, remember your trip and any particular thing that you think brought you closer to The One. That will be what I would really like to see you bring back for me. That and a nice tan too.
