Pagan Corner

I was just surfing the threads and I found this to be of interest. I was raised in a catholic household, went to catholic grammar school and high school (for one year...until I got myself kicked out on purpose). I never felt comfortable with the religion. To this day, I haven't found a religion that I do feel comfortable with. I guess that's why I look at them all and take what best fits me. Wicca is so hard to find information on, and I'm not the kind to just float into a bookstore and just delve in at the first thing that strikes me. It IS so unfortunate, though, that Wicca (and associated "religions") get labeled as devil worship. Ya know what I mean....worship the devil, go out and kill your mother, father siblings and then go sacrifice a goat on some altar in. That characterization (and the catholic religion) always DID make me laugh.
From what I've seen on the thread (and I haven't been all that thorough...It IS VERY late) I can see a very ummm, well a different side to what's generally out there. I mean I knew SOME of the precepts of Wicca (I say Wicca for lack of a better term that I know of) but I can see a whole new area of the pagan world out there.
Thanks for listening to my "rant". Be well everyone (almost said "Live long and prosper" LMAO)

Thanks for contributing your thoughts, Rum...

I believe that all humans have this innate need to find the answers to life. We seek (most subconsiously) a connection to the rest of the universe... At one time, and perhaps still, religion was the medium that supposedly answered these questions or at least gave the easy means (via the middle man as in priest, preacher, etc) to get the answers. But, being told what is truth and to actually experience what your truth is are different.

People are beginning to understand that and seek outside the box... They have a sense or feeling there is more and are evolving enough to realize that they must find it on their own...

Wicce is still a religion, albeit one that allows for more freedom of self enlightenment. It still carries some of the same dogma and hierarchal bs that some of the more mainstream religions do...

Catholicism imparticularly doesn't seem to encourage change. It's rigidity and refusal to evolve has been it's downfall with a newer generation of people who want to "meet god" on their own...

I'm not discouraging you against Wicce as a stepping stone toward enlightenment but to be aware of the pitfalls...

The human need for community will always be strong. Religion fulfills that need but in the end, it's just you and the universe and you have to find that truth on your own.

I think the closer one comes to discovery, the less importance they put on converting others or of screaming from the mountain tops :)

Greetings all, just found this thread and thought I'd say hello.
I'm something of an eclectic Wicca myself and it's always nice to meet others of the Pagan persuasion. ;)
Being from a somewhat conservative area, it's a rare thing to find like minded people. I had been thinking of starting a similar thread till I saw this one.

I was talking with one of my friends about that and her answer is one of my favorites. "Anyone will agree that we [Pagans] are not Christian... so why would we worship the Christian Devil?"

Nice to meet you all, blessed be.

(for anyone who would like, the web site in my sig is, I have found, a very good introductory resource for Wicca)

Merry meet, Prophegy!

Virginia you say? I can certainly sympathize with your feeling a lack of community. I thought I had the same problem here in western NC. And I couldn't figure out with as beautiful as these mountains are more pagans aren't to be found...

But the truth is there is a community, and it's growing by the moment. Fifteen years ago it was a little harder to come out. But since then our group has grown from a just few of us getting together for celebrations to over 100 in 3 counties!
Education is helping and there is now even a Pagan student union at the college...

May I ask how it is you come to a pagan path?

And thanks for bumping the thread. It doesn't get enough action as of late :)

Lovely to see this thread today.

I just made a mosaic medicine wheel, it makes me happy.

Blessed be, all.

lol, aye, good old Va. Not the greatest place for any kind of alternate life style. I was actually dowsed with 'holy water' once. lol, but things are growing here too and it's not quite as bad as it was.

Wow, thats quite an accomplishment. Always nice to hear successes like that. :)

Sure, I don't mind. :)

It was actually my first girlfriend who introduced it too me. I met her at a campground in PA my family used to frequent for summer weekends at the time.
Her mother and a few others, it turned out, routinely held gatherings for their small coven there as well. I was very intrigued by some of the philosophies and ideas behind their faith and tried to learn all I could about it.

Peace be to all.

The moon brightens.

Lovely day here, just got a huge amount of rain that was badly needed.

And I love the thunder that comes with it.

Rumblings of the Gods and arrows shot.

Send rains here.

My garden suffers.

Is nice to see you lady.

Your words always make me smile.

Lovely to see you too!

Florida grass at least springs right back up. It's always amazing to me to see a resurge from withered straw to bright green in a day.

The power of life amazing indeed.

The force within.

Peace be on you.

Oh wow

I am so happy to finally have found this thread! I'm in north TX, and while there are quite a few groups/circles/groves, I've never felt at home with any of them thus far.

Image, I just read your profile and see that your interests include Otherkin and the Aurthurian cycle. I am currently going through my annual Aurhturan obssession (usually happens around May, but it's late this year).

Am thinking happy thoughts for the garden as well.

Hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend.

Blessed Mabon

a.k.a. Autumnal Equinox

a.k.a. insert name here :)

"The Month of the Beginning of Autumn" (Sep.21-Oct.20)

1 Egyed Shepherds, swine-herds and grape guards start their service. It is a "closing-day" at vine-hills: from this day on, it is forbidden to appear with wagons or hooped baskets amongst the vines. Vines are guarded from this day on. They start to flesh pigs. It is possible to tell the weather of the whole autumn period, based on this day's weather.

5 Laurence This is the last day of swimming and bathing outside. Watermelons and peaches no longer taste good. This day determines the rest of autumn: if it is a fair and sunny day, it means a long autumn. Snakes go back to their holes, trees and shrubs stop growing.

8 Kisasszony Ancient pagan autumn-starter. They call this day "Swallow-chasing Kisasszony," too, as swallows and other migrating birds start their journeys on this day. In some places it is the day of nutting.

21 Matthew If the weather is fair, it means good wine-bearing. However, the week of Matthew is not suitable for sawing. They also call this period "chaffy week," because of this.

Even though this is the day of autumn equinoxe, no important feast or celebration is connected with it. Autumnal shepherd-feasts and harvest-homes start from this day on.

29 Michael This day starts the autumnal quarter of the year. This shepherd feast is known all around Europe. Most of the animals are herded into the village on this day, shepherds start their service.
The root of grass ceases to grow, bees do not make any more honey, fish swim down to the bottom of the lakes. Autumn sowing starts.
If swallows are still here on this day, it will not be cold till New Year's day. Thunder on Michael's day means a beautiful autumn, but a cold winter.

I believe I qualify for "time of nutting"

Personally, I'm into the wine and mead :)

Yeast in honey
brings the mead
to life beyond
the clovered fields

You know, the equinoxes and solstices were the original pagan holidays. The ones that are considered "major" sabbats now (Samhain, Beltane, Lughnassad and Imbolc) were added later (I think) as domestication of animals came into practice...

A very happy Mabon to you, Reci and everyone )0(

I like measuring them by the length of the days and the moments when the heavens turn back on a cycle. The longest day, the shortest day, the moment when tomorrow will be different from what came before.

Some of them just make themselves known, like full moons.

And at that slightest, most definite, exact moment, if it exists at all, when you can slip between the worlds...

And the worlds slip back. I really do love those times, the twilight, the crossroad, the meaning-rich moments of opportunity.
