Its hard to say. I have seen some things that just look better in photos.. Lots of things actually.
Looks like it must be a reasonably large piece though, going by the chain hooks etc.

Exactly. Lighting and surroundings can play a big part in the way something looks, the impact that it has. And sometimes a photo captures something that the eye just doesn't see in the same way.
