So back on Feb 15th I was diagnosed and treated for Strep throat with amoxicillyn and the strep went away.

ABout a week and a half later my penis got very very tender to the touch on the very end and any type of rubbing on my underwear or anything at all was killing me.

So yesterday I took the day off of work, paid my 30$ deductible to have my family doctor tell me that it looked like balantitis/fungal infection and to keep using the chlortimazole cream that I had left over from a good case of the athletes foot many years ago.

Well now my pecker is getting better.....but after awhile sitting at work my butt gets real sore and my balls tend to get super sensitive to touch almost of a burning sensation...

I've been wearing boxer briefs for over a year now and I have not switched any soaps or shampoos that I use in the shower. Only thing that has changed is the introduction of the chlortimazole to help clear up the other problem.

I'm proud to say that my lady and I have been celibate our whole life...and I'm hoping my pecker has got some get up and go left in it when it comes time to use it someday!

Did the doctor take a culture to determine it was the fungus that caused your athlete's foot years ago?

I don't know your history, but when I looked up balanitis, two things from your post jumped out:

- It can be caused by drug (e.g. antibiotic) allergies. I'm guessing the residual drug in the urine irritates/inflames the head of the penis when one pees.

- It's often caused by candida (yeast). This can also cause irritation of other skin, such as the balls and anal area, especially if there's a lot of wetness from sweat or not drying well after bathing. A yeast infection often results from taking antibiotics; women get vaginal yeast infections following a course of antibiotics all the time.

Call your doc and tell him about your new symptoms if it sounds like you might have a yeast infection. By calling, hopefully you can avoid another $30 copay and time off of work. :)

Here's the info from MayoClinic:

Signs and symptoms of a male yeast infection include redness, a red rash, itching or burning at the tip of your penis. Fortunately, most male yeast infections are easily treated with over-the-counter antifungal treatments, such as Monistat.

To treat a male yeast infection, apply the medication directly to the affected skin twice daily for a week. If the rash doesn't go away or if it recurs frequently, consult your doctor. Persistent or recurrent yeast infections can be associated with other medical conditions such as diabetes.

When one partner has a genital yeast infection, it's important for both partners to get treatment. Your girlfriend could infect you, treat her own infection and then get reinfected by having sex with you again. For this reason, it's generally recommended that you refrain from sexual intercourse until all signs and symptoms of the infection are gone.

Yeah, I'd follow Sweet Erika's advice. Also, try to eat quite a bit of yogurt like us gals do or take some acidophillus(sp). Garlic supplements are also good antifungals. But talk to your doctor so you don't have to suffer. Also, cut sugars and carbs from you diet. Those feed Yeast (Candida), especially any alcohol......Hope you get some relief. If you have had sexual contact with you lady she may want to get her doctor to treat her so you don't pass it back and forth...........Good luck. Just wanted to add my 2 cents an reinforce Sweet Erika's sensible advice.

Sleep without boxers/underwear at night. If it truly is a yeast infection, this really does help A LOT. I didn't believe it when I had my one-and-only yeast infection, but I felt loads better the next morning.

The strep test has a high rate of false negatives, so you tend to get treated for strep regardless of how the test turns up. A fact one can exploit in college quite regularly to get out of class (you get a pass from student health as strep is contagious - and student health is regularly quite cheap).

You may have had a yeast infection in your throat. Guys usually get that from giving oral sex...so depending upon your version of the term celibate, take that as you will. The symptoms are reasonably similar to strep. Getting yeast on your junk sucks - the quote "burning from taint to tip" - was burned into my memory by a friend describing this very condition.

Lastly, it seems super sketchy that your doctor told you to use multiple year old medicine.
