Overload

You should try going to an industry show for the Wine & Spirits business. I've got your overstimulation, baby...

No spitting allowed?

Hand dyed fabrics and books and supplies to do your own hand dying (both fabric and wool) are the rage this year.

One company had hand dyed a cotton fabric that contained some rayon in it. The end result was a cotton that looks and feels like suede. They were in the MOST GORGEOUS YUMMY shades. Absolutely amazing. And only $15/yard.

My self control was turned all the way up to FULL on that one. I didn't buy ANY.

They'd made some beautiful jackets and vests from that fabric. Really neat.

I like the idea of dying stuff, so long as I get to pick.

Almost everything's "allowed" but tell me, would YOU spit out good wine?

NO! I always think it's a little silly when they do that. What a waste.

Oh, goodness!

Overstimulate me, dahlink...

Why would you want to dye rubber gloves?

You're right. What was I thinking?

Most people would not want their hands tie-dyed when transferring permanent color to cloth or fiber.

Bluebie, on the other hand, would probably think it just adds to his mystique.

holy fuck...aint nothing like the quilts my grandma did...some of those are 2 thumbs up

I JUST noticed all those flying geese. Holy crap! I can't EVEN imagine.
No way. That's some seriously tedious paper-piecing going on there.

then I saw Collette's new AV...I lost all interest in the quilts

Had you seen the quilts in person you wouldn't have. The other amazing thing about the show... The hordes of frenzied grannys. Gangs of them...

You must make the pilgrimage to AQS in Paducah. The granny gangs take over the streets. It isn't safe for man nor beast.

Yeah, that was discussed yesterday. I am sure we will at some point.

And to be clear, I wasn't disparaging your AV. Just that some of the quilts were so amazing.

*grin*

No worries. As a quilter myself, I find the workmanship incredible. I know you were already familiar with art quilts, but I love taking someone to a show that only associates quilts as bedding. It's always an eye-opener. :)

You can put quilts on a bed?

I think Granny would have loved the colors and workmanship, but Granny would have not gone for that hanging a spread on the wall stuff. Ain't natural.

Last year was better than this years for that reason, I had no idea what I was about to experience. This years wasn't as amazing because my expectations were way higher.

T'would have been a shame to cover up the Pete family velvet Elvis collection, anyway. ;)

Seriously, though, I have great admiration for traditional techniques and the quilters that utilize them . All the embellishment, fabric dyeing, and contemporary designs mean very little if a quilt isn't properly constructed.

True, dying is all the rage now. It makes me wanna dye inappropriate things inappropriate colors.

Elvis would never get Granny's wall space. That was reserved for the poker playing dogs.

I only get to see pics of these fine quilts when someplace posts them. I do not go to many quilt shows. To see them in person must be a thrill. Technology has given the quilters new tools and methods, but from my point of view it is impossible to tell where the bony knuckles stop, and the automatic doodads begin.
