Louis Armstrong, "What A Wonderful World"

would of thought that would be a nice song to hear now

that Louis Armstrong song "what a wonderful world" is SOOOOO subversive and threatening!

Ban it!

I suppose some people consider it "insensitive" to play positive, life-affirming music after a tragedy.

Isn't there something better they could be doing for the families of the victims?

What A Wonderful World By Louis Armstrong

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.

Can you believe THIS is on the list?

Imagine
John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religon too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
In a brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say i'm a dreamer
But i'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

sam cooke? the beatles?
surely next it will have to be Val Donican and Frank Sinartra.
subversives the lot of them!!!

Why is Neil Diamonds "America" on the list? i grew up listening to that song.. is there something in it that i don't remember? hmmmm guess i'll run off and find the lyrics..

Good grief!

That list is the product of an insane mind. (Did yayati have anything to do with it?)

Frank Sinatra's New York, New York? Geeezzz!

Yup. We've got four Clear Channel Stations here. My friend works for one. He's pretty pissed off.

This list can't be right.

How in the world could Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" end up on a list of subversive songs? In any universe? In any reality?

No, no, no... there's got to be something not quite right with that list.

When you´re weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I'll dry them all...
I´m on your side, oh, when times get rough
And friends just can´t be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you´re down and out
When you´re on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I´ll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I´m sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

Ok, i found the lyrics.. i guess it could be bothersome to people..

AMERICA
Written by Neil Diamond
Far
We've been traveling far
Without a home
But not without a star

Free
Only want to be free
We huddle close
Hang on to a dream

On the boats and on the planes
They're coming to America
Never looking back again
They're coming to America

Home, don't it seem so far away
Oh, we're traveling light today
In the eye of the storm
In the eye of the storm

Home, to a new and a shiny place
Make our bed, and we'll say our grace
Freedom's light burning warm
Freedom's light burning warm

Everywhere around the world
They're coming to America
Every time that flag's unfurled
They're coming to America

Got a dream to take them there
They're coming to America
Got a dream they've come to share
They're coming to America

They're coming to America
They're coming to America
They're coming to America
They're coming to America
Today, today, today, today, today

My country 'tis of thee
Today
Sweet land of liberty
Today
Of thee I sing
Today
Of thee I sing
Today

It's going too far. Next thing you know porn will be banned from <GASPS!> adult web sites. ;)

As far as Simon and Garfunkles "Bridge over troubled waters".. this is probably the lyric that got it removed..

"When you´re weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I'll dry them all...
I´m on your side, oh, when times get rough
And friends just can´t be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down"

whoever made this list.. probably thinks it will remind people of those lost in the rubble..

who knows.. i think people read into music way to much.. *shrugs*.. to each his own i guess

sorry am I missing something here?
some of those songs are the ones we have all been playing.
not only are they going to far it down right patronising.

Okay, I just got word from my friend that this is Untrue. He said that these statements are false and they just got faxes in down at the station and will be adressing them live on the air on our three sister stations.

Clear channel hasn't banned anything, however if any of its stations choose to do so they are free to.

He also sent me this release

CLEAR CHANNEL SAYS NATIONAL “BANNED PLAYLIST”
DOES NOT EXIST

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Antonio, TX, September 18, 2001...Clear Channel Communications, Inc. (NYSE: CCU) today issued the following statement as a result of numerous stories, emails and calls concerning an alleged “list of banned songs” on its U.S. radio stations following last week’s tragedy in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania:

“Clear Channel Radio has not banned any songs from any of its radio stations.

Clear Channel believes that radio is a local medium. It is up to every radio station program director and general manager to understand their market, listen to their listeners and guide their station’s music selections according to local sensitivities. Each program director and general manager must take the pulse of his or her market to determine if play lists should be altered, and if so, for how long.

‘In the wake of this terrible tragedy, the nation’s business community is responding with a degree of hypersensitivity,” explained Mark P. Mays, President and Chief Operating Officer of Clear Channel. “Even some movie companies have altered some of their release schedules in light of the mood in America today. Clear Channel strongly believes in the First Amendment and freedom of speech. We value and support the artist community. And we support our radio station programming staff and management team in their responsibility to respond to their local markets.’”

That is a relief, Angel... to an extent - my next question would be - even though they say they haven't actually "banned" anything... did they actually circulate that list as a suggestion?

James Taylor's "Fire and Rain"? Oh For the Love Of. . . These songs seem to have been censored because they contain words that could be offensive by themselves. The song is beautiful and something that I know alot of my friends have on their play list. Don't you love it when people get paranoid about the stupidest things? Sorry, I used "Fire" "Paranoid" "Stupidest" and "Offensive" so I should probably be censored.

I don't know. The list had to come from somewhere though. Maybe one of the Clear Channel Stations in the country has decided to drop those songs from their playlist and it snowballed?

I'd ask him, but I've already called him five times, and he's logged off of AIM as his show is almost on.

I'll harass him later when he goes live on AIM at 8.

Just think - whoever came up with that list is actually being paid money.

How can I get a job like that?
