Back in the fall - Oct or Nov, somewhere on this board, someone recommended the series of books by Diana Gabaldon that start with "The Outlander". I just wanted to say thanks - one of the best books I've read and I read 6 - 8 books at least a month. I'm reading the whole series and am about 1/2 way thru book 3, with four and five bought and waiting. It isn't as explicit as I generally read - I'm a true erotica fan - but such a great story. I'm already sad to think of it ending, I feel like the main characters are friends, and I know I will miss them.

I'm sooooooooooooo hooked. I'm on Dragonfly in Amber right now..........and just getting to a good part. :)

It might have been me what mentioned them somewhere, or it might not have been.

I'm definately hooked on the books, and will be rereading them at some point as well.

But the series aren't over yet, there will be at least one more, and possible two more in the serie before it ends.

All of the books in the series are abridged and read aloud on cassette tapes, the voices are great, very sexy accents. I forget the name of the woman who reads them but she does some great voices through the whole series. You should check out the audio books.
After having read an example of the same scene in the unabridged version and abridged version, I for one think I'll stick to the unabridged versions.

Diana Gabaldon writes this about abridged vs. unabridged on her homepage:

"Now, granted, many people write to tell me how much they’ve enjoyed the abridged audiotapes. Sometimes, these are people who are merely using the tapes as adjuncts to the novels; they like to hear bits of the story read aloud. But sometimes, these are people who haven’t read the books at all, and have no idea that what they’re getting is the Gabaldon for Dummies version. This bothers me."

You can check out the whole article here, and there are also an example of unabridged vs. abridged:
