Out of the Boot and Into An Interesting Weekend

I went to the orthopedist yesterday afternoon. After looking at the latest x-ray, he said that my tibia was healing up all right, and I could start "weaning myself of the boot." I asked if I could take up my former athletic activities, and he said I shouldn't get back into Taekwondo or start tennis for another month. He also said I didn't need to come back unless I had a problem.

I'd forgotten to bring a pair of shoes with me, and I couldn't wait to get out of that boot, so I stopped at Beall's which was in the shopping center right next door to the orthopedic clinic and got these:

Then I went back to work. Not without some problems. I may have mentioned that I don't get to park next to the building where I work; I leave my car at the parking garage (for which my company pays) and ride the trolley to where my work is.

There were a couple of young dudes riding in the front of the trolley; obviously they and the driver were really good friends because she was yacking with them a mile a minute. One of them was dressed in that annoying "urban" fashion where his pants are so low that the belt buckle just had to clear the end of his business, if you know what I mean...

I yanked on the bell cord, which does not ring an actual bell--it's a long time since the trolley went "clang, clang," although it did when I first started riding it. A lighted sign goes on and a mechanical voice says, "Stop requested." I pulled the cord as soon as the driver pulled away from Market St so she'd know to stop at Newnan. But she didn't--she sailed right through it, with me standing up and saying, "Scuse me, ma'am--I've got a stop here!"

"I didn't hear you," she said.

"I pulled the cord! Didn't you hear the 'Stop Requested'?" She stopped finally at Ocean, which was the next street after Newnan, and which her friends had requested anyway.

After I got down off the trolley, I yelled back at the driver: "IF YA CAN'T CONVERSATE AND DRIVE AT THE SAME TIME, JUST DRIVE!!!!!"

I told this at work and they said I'd done it, she'd leave me at the stop next time she saw me. But I don't figure she'll remember--since I started taking the bus I don't use the trolley all that much. I only drive in if I have a doctor appointment or if the weather's bad.

The same day had seen the advent of another, truly revoltin' development, which I'll deal with in another thread...

Just as well the doctor said I shouldn't go back into athletic stuff right away, and just as well, because I haven't really gotten my gait back after all. My ankle still hurts a good bit when I go downstairs. I spent today tramping about in Lowe's...

Okay as someone that broke both of their lower leg bones... Tibia, busted it outwards to the left AND the Fibula, busted towards the right but didn't break through the skin. I was out of my bot fairly soon... but ummm the heels were out per my Doc... because the bones didn't actually set fully for several months. With the heels it actually causes the bones to slide alittle. I can wear heels now but it took probably a year to be able to do it without damage to the bones.

Oh, dear--I suppose I hadn't ought to have bought those Malindas. However, I don't wear them for very long at a time. I get to the office, I sit down; I get home, they come off. I can get about much better in flipflops. I was thinking about getting a pair of those Fitflops, but they cost more than any pair of flipflops I ever owned, and I'm looking at a bunch of home repair expenses.
