The US economy has been bad for so long, I'm afraid we've forgotten what it's like to be prosperous and to be able to indulge in the luxuries afforded by disposable income. I'm afraid we are getting accustomed to a lifestyle where Dollar General takes the place of Bloomingdales. We've been in a recession for almost a generation.
We've become cheap and miserly and greedy. There's a whole generation who thinks living like this is normal.

Even a year or two ago I was thinking about getting a cheap apartment or buying a condo near the kids because at $100 (plus tax) a night it was killing me to live out of hotels.

Now I can almost always find something decent for well under $50 a night including the $10-$15 a night jock-strap intelligentsia stadium tax.

Off season I get 3 stars or better in that range.
