We just adopted him recently, he's been great... except for not being able to walk up and down stairs. My neighbors get a big kick watching me carry his ass up and down at least 3 times a day.

I am horrible at naming animals though... so he is just Dog for right now. His racing name was Yowzer, but that sucks, and he doesn't respond to it anyways.

Call him kitty. Or if he's fast, call him turtle or snail. :D

He's definitely fast! Every once in a while he just decides to tear around our apartment like it's his own little racetrack. Fast but clumsy.

I can't call him Kitty, because I tend to use that for the our cat... though his name is actually Loki.

Well if your kitty is loki, why don't you go with a norse god theme? Call him Thor or something like that. Or you can just go with a God theme. Call him. . . what was the name of the greek god, the messanger god? Wasn't that Mercury? He had the shoes with wings on them, and he was really fast? I'll look it up, I can't remember.

I was thinking of something along those lines... my wife named the cat... but I really like the name, even if I am rather ignorant when it comes to norse mythology. Might have to do some research on the internet, if you find anything let me know! :)

My grandparents names their dog Dee-Oh-Gee once (D-O-G), and I didnt "get it" until I was about 14. I just thought it was a cool sounding name...

:p

Greek rather than Norse here...but Hermes? he was he messenger of the gods and could run faster than the wind.
xx

Sleipner

The horse of Oden (The leader of the Norse gods) with 8 feet.

My cat's name is Cat, Kitty, or shithead depending on whether or not it's trying to kill a houseguest. Actually an ex-girlfriend named it Cardassia, but when she left the cat with me I decided to stop using the name. (I never really liked it.)

A friend of mine had a retired greyhound. It's name was Jock. Jock passed away a couple of years ago, so you could take that name. I'll warn you though. Jock was a lazy, lazy greyhound and his gas was NASTY. That dog could clear out a room like you wouldn't believe.

Otherwise I vote with the suggestions for Norse mythology.

Also, congratulations on your dog. Greyhounds are some of the friendliest dogs on the planet. I'm not usually very comfortable around dogs, but I've never been nervous or afraid of a greyhound. They're just too damn sweet.

What was his name before you adopted him? Why not keep that?

He's a beauty though :)

He is adorable no wonder you picked him up and carried him home.

I have no idea about dog names but KC site looks good as does the mercury/hermes idea.

Master has an alasation dog. His name seems pretty irrelevent but he answers to 'wank stain' The dog answers to it NOT master lol

He's beautiful.

I worked for a greyhound adoption agency in Wisconsin some years ago, and owned a retired runner named Brazos, who was lost a while ago to a very virulent bone cancer that spread too fast to just remove the leg it started in.

Excellent, clean dogs... and don't worry. He'll learn to climb the stairs eventually. :p

Every pet I have had basically named themselves within the first few hours of owning them. My current dog is a border collie we picked up last year from a farm south of us. I paid the man in cash and after we talked for a few hours I made the three hour ride home. When I returned the gentleman had called and left a message telling me I paid one dollar too much for him and did I want him to send me the dollar back. I called him back and said no, I realize I paid one dollar too much and that is going to be his name. His registered name is Johnson Farm's One Dollar Too Much. We shortened it to Dollar Bill for everyday use. Maybe you can think about what your dog does, his personality, or the situation in which you acquired him. I have a rule for dogs and names. Keep them to a name that is short and you can say sharply. It helps alot in training.

ours are Dom/inic and Guenhwyvar.

but we're big geeks, and we name our pets after characters in books we read.

I like the name Raistlin... he looks like a Raistlin... Raist for short.

only if you want him to hack up blood and be in an ill temper all the time.

i think you should just call him dog. what's wrong with that? (haplo did it)

::raspberries, then hugs the Bunny a fellow geek::

es still a cool name though!!

tanis was cool, gunther, Sturm...

... ::giggle:: can name him Tasslehoff. Tass for short. if he ends up being a tricky fun dog :)

THough if it is a rescue dog, and already had a name you want something closely related to the dogs name, or something 1 or 2 syllables.

this is making me want to re read books I've read 100 times :)

Two Friends of mine have a cat called "Neo". Once I was visiting them (its about 600 km between us) they decited to get a second cat. (in fact they only drove there to "see" the cats, not to take one, but I't was clear my friend had allready decited to do it when she was there earlier that morning. ;))
It was clear the cat needed a name of another Matrix-character and they decited to name him Red (because he had red fur, too).
Sadly he died only one week later due to an uncureable deasease, he must had gotten some weeks before.

When I saw him I immediately thought Poindexter, for some odd reason. Or you could call him Mega _______. Insert some silly word here. I had a dog named Mega Goddamn, but Jizzlober changed it to Moirainne, Moi for short. Give it some time, and the name should just fall into your lap.

What a smart looking and sweet faced dog. Good for you for getting one.

i am not good at names, so i'll beg off that and ask whether you named him yet?
