It seems like a good time to start this one. I'll be deciding on what goes in the vegetable garden, maybe a few flowers, and then the planting begins as soon as the weather starts to cooperate.

Going to start my garden as soon as the cold weater is gone!
Working on raised beds and grow bags for the first time, hopeing it will be less work then regular beds!...:cattail:

I planted a garden once. Years ago. In Nicaragua. Bell peppers and cucumbers and tomatoes. I was in to it. Even made a compost pile and blockade to keep the critters out. It never grew, though. A friend told me after the fact that I buried the seeds too deep and they rotted. Apparently you don’t need to bury them in a deep hole underground to keep them safe.

I was never a gardener but my mom loves to maintain a floral garden in front of my parents' home.

I always smile at Bidin time's post, such an oasis in a wild board.

My boss used to bring me tomatoes from his garden. They were so much tastier than the ones I got from the grocery they were almost like a different thing entirely.

I've been told by acquaintances grow bags work pretty well.
Let us know how it works for you!

Yeah, most seeds don't need to planted more than a 1/2 to 1 inch deep. It's a shame it didn't work out, but sometimes things just don't. You could have done everything right but too much or too little rain can cause problems.

Gardening gives me time to think as i work. I also enjoy the challenge of new varieties and the trial and error of it all.

I've never thought of myself as an oasis. but as this IS a gardening thread...

I am so spoiled by summer tomatoes out of the garden that I rarely buy them in winter. The taste and texture just isn't the same.

Now that the coyotes have cleaned out the bunnies, I'm thinking about some Jerusalem Artichokes again.

I might start some snow peas this weekend. It's really been too cold to think about it.
Hell, it's only 28º right now. Hmmm..., on second thought
I don't think hell is the right word.
Unless it has frozen over.

I think about doing a garden every spring, then I wait long enough for the feeling to go away.

For some, it would be pure drudgery. For me it's nothing like drudgery.

I seem to redneck some projects here since I don’t have optimal growing options. I’m forever wanting to grow juicy tomatoes and spicy peppers but just don’t have the nighttime heat so this year I’m going to make another attempt via wacky tactics. I get about 17 hours of daylight and about 4 hrs of dusk, but just don’t get much dependable heat thru the day or night.

If my greenhouse will fit my hot tub inside, then I’m going to try that. Heat from the tub will make it hot and humid, the greenhouse will keep some tub heat loss at a minimum. I will have less space to work with so maybe hang more, and am also concerned about chlorine condensation. It shouldn’t be too much as the lid will be on it unless I’m in it and there are two doors for air flow.

Thanks for the thread. I knew there had to be one here somewhere. If I had started a thread, it might have been something about turning my push mower into a John Deere tractor or weed eating tomato plants.

Bragging is one of my best story telling qualities. Ask Samuel Clemens. And that other white dude - Mark Twain.

Oh, let me know how that works out.

I will.

Last summer I heated up a large pool with 5 foot sides with cold water to 82 degrees. I stoked a fire for a couple of weeks straight inside an old bbq with copper tubing running along the entire inside lid. I used old beetle kill and probably went thru 1/2-2/3 of a cord of wood that needed clearing.

I’ve the perfect spot on my deck for the greenhouse.

We have a few gardeners here. My personal thing is my vegetable garden. It's small(ish) but I like the satisfaction of growing and then preserving what I grow.
One of my neighbors brought 2 dozens quarts of various goodies they preserved last year. He was repaying us in product for the manure he takes in the spring for his garden.

I will.

You know, there should be pics. I love the creativity!

I love it, but I've been busy tending to my little abode. Taking much longer than I anticipated. I'm trying to address whatever I envisioned when I 1st moved in.

At the moment, I'm concerned about gophers and snakes. Snakes, I'd keel everyone of them if I could. The gophers? I'm ridding myself of them in a non-lethal manner. The neighbors will be pissed.

I finally have some Rosemary that I'm managing to keep alive.............for now.

Baby steps, there Big Guy... j/k. What about the fruit trees this year?
The trees here are just starting to bud. I'm a little worried about the blueberry bushes as it looks as though something snacked on one of them over the winter. Probably deer.

My gardening nemeses are deer, rabbits, raccoon, and occasional bear. Apparently my fav vegetables are also theirs.

We just got a cold blast, hopefully the last of the season, and the trees made it through fine.

The Peaches and Cherry are already set. It appears to be an off year for the Apple, and the pear is doing well.

My father spent the last part of his life battling deer. He came up with some concoction based on Chinaberry that seemed to work without screwing up the plants he wanted to protect. I wish I had that formula now. I don't have a deer problem, but I'd share the formula with those that do.
