I've just received feedback from a Spanish studies thing that wants to translate a story of mine into Spanish and French and I think post it on their website. Has anyone gotten one of these? Plus they want my real name so I get credit. So, anyone else get this stuff?

Thanks Demon

Not like that. I've been asked if a Lit. member could translate in German to post here, which I OKed. I certainly wouldn't give a real name to anyone going this route.

No, although I did have someone ask if they could advertise my free fantasy stories published on Smashwords on their fantasy publishing site. I was a bit suspicious but I thought What have I got to lose? and they have actually turned out to be a very nice person whom I occasionally chat to by email.

That they are asking to use your real name triggers suspicion. Why would they care about that? Authors use pen names all the time. Why request the author's given name?

I have a sneaking suspicion that, after getting your real name, they may also ask for a credit card or something similar in order to "verify" you.

If that happens, run. ;)

Tell them that you had goofy fucking parents and that is your real name, then make sure to act insulted. :D

I've received (and granted)some requests to post my stories elsewhere, but none of them have asked for my real name. This sounds suspiciously like a scam to me.

Thanks everyone for getting back to me on this. I thought it was odd that they wanted my real name too. It would be one thing if they needed it for a nice big check for me (I can dream) but it just didn't sit right with me. So, I will tell them no thank you.

Thanks again everyone

Probably the best course of action. ;)
