Orrin Hatch, the longest serving Republican Senator in Utah history has passed after 42 years in service to the country. I honestly recognize the name but never bothered to look into him so I'm neither slamming him nor praising him.

He did lead a exemplary life coming from a carpenter and a plastic lather (THE FUCK IS THAT?!) in relative poverty to become a US Senator, few men rise farther than that.

He is survived by his wife and 6 kids.

He was a Republican before the Republicans almost universally became rotten and checked out of good government.

One of his closest friends in the Senate was Ted Kennedy. He helped hard drinking Senator from Massachusetts get sober in his latter years.

He also has Gold and Platinum Records for songs he co-authored. A little tidbit there.

Outstanding. I didn't know much about the man. I was looking for something to post political and when I saw him I chose to notice that he was not just a man but a good man. He lived the dream.

He was a lifelong conservative. Did you know that?

He wouldn't align himself with today's "conservatives."
Today's "liberals" are so ignorant they might as well be "conservatives".

Sen. Hatch on Trump: 'I don't think there's a racist bone in his body'

Sen Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) tells a reporter, "I know Donald Trump. I don't think there's a racist bone in his body" in response to criticism over the president's handling of violent clashes in Charlottesville.

Why did you quote me and then bring something irrelevant to what I said to the conversation?

Decades ago, he broke a record for the longest standing filibuster in Senate history. I don’t recall how long he talked for, but I think he just read names from a phone book for hours and hours. From that day forward, his colleagues jokingly nicknamed him “Borin Orrin”

He's not even in the top 5.

In 1978, the Washington Post dubbed the then-freshman Senator “the man behind the talkathon.” Borrin Orrin famously led filibusters over labor laws. 🇺🇸

One of the things we will always remember his fondly for was his eloquent defense of Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearings. As a member of the Judiciary Committee, Hatch effectively subjected Anita Hill’s claims to proper scrutiny which led to the confirmation of Justice Thomas. 🇺🇸

More recently, he played a major role in passage of President Trump’s TCJA, something nearly all of us can be grateful for, especially after filing our tax returns this month. 🇺🇸

So, he was a criminal. Good to know.

What laws did he violate? Was he ever convicted of a crime, or is your definition of a criminal is someone you disagree with?
In a politician, doing the nation harm is enough. Thomas' confirmation did the nation harm. So did the Trump tax cuts. And so does killing labor bills, by filibuster or otherwise. Union-busters are enemies of humanity -- there are not even any gray areas there.

So no laws broken. No criminal convictions. “Criminals“ are politicians you disagree with. Thanks for the conformation.
