Orphan Black

I was putting off starting the second season because I know I will get sucked in, and I have too much to do but ... I succumbed.

Interesting premise, but didn't hold my interest.

I felt pretty much the same way. It caught my attention at first, but after seeing the first few episodes and parts of others here and there, the show lost it's appeal.

I'm waiting to check out Dominion, which starts on SyFy on the 19th. But I have a strong suspicion I'm going to be disappointed.

You guys are crazy. It just gets better and better.

What about Strain? There are a lot of Science Fiction shows starting for the summer. I'm excited!

Orphan Black is excellent, and Tatiana Maslany, who plays all the clones, is fantastic. I started watching it On Demand out of curiosity, then had to watch it again with my husband, who is now also hooked.

This show is much better than Helix, a SyFy (I hate typing that) show which couldn't decide what the hell it wanted to do, and then killed off all but four characters in the last episode.

There does seem to be a lot of "genre" stuff these days. I keep wanting to watch "Defiance" but haven't gotten there. My brother told me to watch "The Americans," but I missed season 1 and FX is charging $3/episode On Demand. I'd be better probably to just buy the show.

I haven't heard of Strain, but I can guess what it's about. ;)

Yeah, Helix got off to an interesting start, but by the fourth episode it was obvious they were just stretching something out that should have been a two-hour movie instead.

I watched the first season of Defiance. It was all right. Cool premise, but the aliens were way too human in their motivations and some of the psychic stuff they threw in made me roll my eyes. It was like a post-apocalyptic Star Trek, where everyone was basically human, just a lot of them looked funny. The overall impression I got was that the show was basically an ongoing advertisement for the video game.

I was intrigued by Believe, but after the first few episodes it was like a cross between the 70s Incredible Hulk and X-Files. I think it's been canceled now, though.

What I want to watch is Penny Dreadful . . . but I don't have Showtime. Alas.

There's always Bit Torrents.

Another one I started watching and lost interest in was Under the Dome. At first it was interesting, but soon became boring and predictable.

Defiance...again, there was no substance to the characters or plot.

I have given up on TV and its current state of "Reality Show" or look a likes. About the only thing I watch now are NCIS, Person of Interest, Perception and Elementary.

It actually doesn't seem to be exactly what it sounds like. Look it up. It's produced by Guillermo del Toro, so that is promising.

I never watched Helix, but I agree about Defiance, Believe and Under the Dome. Under the Dome was a great book, but the series took a big departure from it. Believe was just the same episode over and over, and Defiance was just too hokey for me.

I'm still holding onto Haven, but that is pretty hokey, too. I just really like the actor, Eric Balfour. ;)

So this summer is The Strain, Extant (with Halle Berry) The Leftovers on HBO, which looks REALLY good, and a bunch of others.

I really want to watch Penny Dreadful, too, but I don't have Showtime. :(

I was driving the Orphan Black bus last Spring, trying to get everyone I knew on board. I held out hope for Helix due to its pedigree. Despite numerous plot twists, it never really offered anything original. Just a new mix of familiar ingredients. I watched season 1 of Defiance and found it OK but not memorable. Entertaining, but far from can't miss.

The Americans is superb. I can't recommend paying $3 per episode, but it is excellent.

And Oranr Is The New Black is back in two weeks. That's something.to look forward to.

I did actually look up The Strain. I almost took a pass on it just because of the word "vampires." The last thing I want to watch is another gushy, melodramatic crap-fest of pale-skinned fashionistas lamenting about eternal life and why they have to look so beautiful.

I'm glad I watched the extended trailer and read the articles. Oh my God, vampires as the scary, blood-sucking parasites they're supposed to be? Vampires that aren't pretty? Vampires that don't fly around like Peter Pan and seduce hot young high school chicks? Hell, these things apparently can't even talk!

Okay, I'm intrigued. I'll watch the first episode. I like Sean Astin, even if he's in a secondary role (well, isn't he always?).

I just hope they don't go too far in the other direction and make the vampires more like Walking Dead zombies . . . .

* * * *

I've only seen blurbs about Extant. It's a Spielberg project, and I'm a little surprised Halle Berry is staring in it. But then, a lot of stars are coming to TV. Heck, John Malkovich is even doing it.

Yeah, (John Malkovich) but he gets to be a pirate.

Orphan Black sounds really cool. I see it was airing over here, but the episodes are no longer on i-player. Maybe you can get it on that thing ... Netflix. I will check it out!

:)

I'm still trying to finish watching GoT Series 3, but I was put off when my student went through so much awful stuff that it was like hearing someone tell you about GoT without any fun dresses :(

I agree

Amazing show filled with twists and turns everywhere.

I'm currently starting season 2.

I have a VORTEX OF HATE inside of me for the adaptation of UtD.

I can handle a few key differences between the reference material and the finished product. buuuuttt...

SHOW WRITERS: Oh! you know how people could hear each other thru the dome? LETS MAKE IT SOUNDPROOF!

SHOW WRITERS: You know how the main protagonist was just a shmoe in the book? OPEN THE SHOW WITH HIM BURYING A BODY!

SHOW WRITERS: You know, in the book SK specifically said the town was all white except for one asian woman, LET'S RACIALLY DIVERSIFY!
ME: Y'know, that's actually a pretty good idea,
SHOW WRITERS: Yeah! After all, we can't cast the drugged-up single mother who gets gang raped as white! Or the insane meth dealer! That would be crazy!
ME: ...

I stopped watching after the first episode.
