I took part in a thread a long time ago where posters revealed the origins of their net name and title on these boards. It was amusing. Rather than find that old thread and revive it, I figured I’d start a new similar thread. Hope people will appreciate the messages herein and not be rude to posters.
To start things off, “Achtungnight” is an invocation of a moment of creative imagination. It’s a translation of “Hello, Darkness”, which was not unique enough for me. I’ve also called myself “Frost-Fire” in the past for similar reasons, but that name has become too common also. For those unfamiliar with mythology, in the Norse tradition, the universe began when frost and fire met in the void. In the Abrahamic tradition, the universe began when God called out to darkness and said hello. Simon and Garfunkel produced a song called “Sound of Silence” that illustrates similar themes.
The name is also a reference to the dual opposites of my first and middle names IRL, Douglas Ramsay. Two Scottish clans from which I am descended. Friends at times, rivals at other times.
As for “Lech Master”, in fantasy stories a Lich is a magician who has brought themselves back from death through mastery of their craft. Examples include Vecna and Sauron. Those liches who earn the title of Master have come back from death on multiple occasions. I’ve brought myself back from board alienating, burnout, and depression on multiple occasions. So I feel I have earned the right to give myself a similar title. Of course, since I write adult material, I have to put an appropriate spin on it. “Lech” is also a name of respect in Poland. The word means dirty unwelcome behavior in English, but that’s a matter of taste.
Please share the origins of your name here, if you dare.
