I took part in a thread a long time ago where posters revealed the origins of their net name and title on these boards. It was amusing. Rather than find that old thread and revive it, I figured I’d start a new similar thread. Hope people will appreciate the messages herein and not be rude to posters.

To start things off, “Achtungnight” is an invocation of a moment of creative imagination. It’s a translation of “Hello, Darkness”, which was not unique enough for me. I’ve also called myself “Frost-Fire” in the past for similar reasons, but that name has become too common also. For those unfamiliar with mythology, in the Norse tradition, the universe began when frost and fire met in the void. In the Abrahamic tradition, the universe began when God called out to darkness and said hello. Simon and Garfunkel produced a song called “Sound of Silence” that illustrates similar themes.

The name is also a reference to the dual opposites of my first and middle names IRL, Douglas Ramsay. Two Scottish clans from which I am descended. Friends at times, rivals at other times.

As for “Lech Master”, in fantasy stories a Lich is a magician who has brought themselves back from death through mastery of their craft. Examples include Vecna and Sauron. Those liches who earn the title of Master have come back from death on multiple occasions. I’ve brought myself back from board alienating, burnout, and depression on multiple occasions. So I feel I have earned the right to give myself a similar title. Of course, since I write adult material, I have to put an appropriate spin on it. “Lech” is also a name of respect in Poland. The word means dirty unwelcome behavior in English, but that’s a matter of taste.

Please share the origins of your name here, if you dare. ;)

Masoch is a reference to the writer from whom masochism gets its name. Leopold von Sacher Masoch. It's the "form" I'm writing from within. It's also why I post in BDSM (it's masochism... get it?)

Mine's a variation of a moniker I used on another forum, completely unrelated to erotica. The 66 is meaningless, but I had to use a number because ElectricBlue was already taken. By some bastard who has written and contributed nothing to this site. Should be made to hand it back to some who wants it, I reckon.

I picked Devinter because it's a unique username I do not use anywhere else, since I want to remain anonymous here. I just think it sounds nice. It's a real, albeit uncommon, last name.

Also, my first choice - Asterion - was already taken by someone with no stories written and no favourites added, whom probably haven't logged on for years. So I can share in @electricblue66 's pain somewhat.

If you google TxRad, you find the Texas Radiologist society. No relation to me.

I'm The Dirty old Man. Somewhere in the last changeover, the "The" was lost.

And here I was thinking that you were alluding to "Electra Glide in Blue" and "Route 66." (I was at H-D in Milwaukee some years ago, and they had a 1966 Electra Glide - it was in blue - for sale. Damn near bought it.)

Reject Reality was stolen from Adam Savage who in turn stole it from an old Sci-Fi movie. Les Lumens is a play on another of my long term internet handles, Darken. Less Lumens = Darken.

Darkniciad is one of my old PnP role-playing characters. That name was loosely derived from Dakimh the Enchanter from Marvel Comics. Originally Darkni the Enchanter, it was expanded when we started coming up with full names for our characters. Darkni became Darkniciad. Thakkor became Thakkorias. So on and so forth. Eventually the lore developed that male names were often terrible hodge-podges of ancestors' names, which is why they're so convoluted.

Handy for use as internet handles, because nobody ever thinks of them. I've never once failed to register the name Darkniciad as-is anywhere.

My Lit name? Simply enough, it means "Uncle Storyteller." It's a nickname I picked up before coming to Lit, bestowed on me by a Puerto Rican señorita who enjoyed my tales.

Kind of how I feel. Like one day I will cause a stir. All I need is that push over the edge of feeling comfortable. Plus one of my favorite bands and songs.

Mine is homage to friend who passed 15 years ago. LitE is the only place I use it or anything like it.

"Just a Regular Guy" is a frequent quip used by the MMC in my Off Campus series, when he is accused of having magic powers especially when it comes to the women in his life.

Five years ago, I was ready to submit and I realized that I needed a name. The first few I tried were already taken, so I went with Smuttyandfun, because I've been told there's always a bit of levity in my stories.

Some readers will comment, 'Good work, Smutty. Say hi to Fun,' assuming there's two of us. I guess because I write both romance and smut, in a way they're probably right.

My name is simply an alternate spelling of the sort of work my last job dealt with. I was a toolmaker for a company that makes millions of different parts out of various grades and sizes of steel, aluminum, and brass wire. Plus a handful of exotic metals. The number has its own significance.

If the right person stumbled across my name here, they might figure it out, but I'm too old to care. Besides, the only people that I still associate with from there already know I write adult stories.

A desire to stay humble, genuine self doubt, and the desire to beat my detractors to the punch.

*Call me M* because I'm tired of being called MA. In spite of the fact that I have a kid, it makes me sound like a mother from the deep south circa 1880.

"MA! I just shot a possum! We's eating good viddles tonight!"

I was using this moniker on another forum when I joined Lit. I'm lazy and don't like to remember what makes I used on which sites. It's a combination of car references.

I haven't had any interest in changing my title it just default to whatever level I reach with my post count.

Nope, nothing to do with that. If anything, Electric Blue, the song by Iva Davies (Icehouse, an Oz band from the late seventies/eighties).

Thx to everyone who has responded thus far. This thread is already as pleasing as the original. :)

Back around high school I decided I needed/wanted one name and just one name to use online. I used to flip through an old dictionary and when I found a word I liked, or looked up a word I saw somewhere and liked, I'd write the page number down on the blank page. Rhapsody was one of those words, because of RealRhapsody. My real name starts with a J so I kept that. So the name I widely used was "J.Rhapsody" or J. Rhapsody", until I basically stole the name Jax from mortal combat. Made a few people online think I was from Florida. After a while, I got the middle name from a M.F. DOOM song where he references a Cartoon Network producer; Mike Lazzo. Thus the one and only Jax Lazzo Rhapsody.

Before that name I had used a few -Sovereign names, like AnimeSovereign on OtakuBoards and GhettoSovereign on BlackPlanet. Jastic Blaster here and there, Domineuce, GreaseMonkey, TechnicJayman, GhettoGuerillaGorilla on the Gorillaz forums. I also only used around three avatars. Now I use this one anywhere I can change it. The only exception was when GTA San Andreas came out and for some reason I decided I was going to be Carl Johnson on Hi5. I think somewhere I used the name ZaziDestino, which is borrowing from a Trigun character Zazi the Beast and Padre Destino from Vigilante8 2nd Offense, my favorite video game. There's the alt I used on Myspace for nefarious reasons; Kim DeLencio or KiDel, my only other alt for facebook; Stryfe Sarrowhart- which is also my craft name. I don't have alts here or anywhere else.

My title Rhapsodic Laviathan came from a poem about myself that I wrote. The line was something like "beware the blissed beast, rhapsodic laviathan". I know it's misspelt, when I first started using it, I put it some places where it couldn't be changed and said fuck it- also I thought that was how it was spelled. I might've had an edge lord/emo period during that time. A few places has Blissed Beast and some have my other tagline; The man behind tinted sunglasses. These are often signitures, too. I think I've also used Gunslinging Pacifist because of Trigun.

Now I've gotten a bit nostalgic and want to google some of these names. Yep... if you see this name, this avatar(or one of the Joker, or Vash Ericks), it's me. My avatar is actually a meme a friend made of me years ago with some iphone app on Kik.

Mine is a contraction of the (English) title of a fairly obscure Icelandic saga - Hord and the Holm-dwellers, about a bunch of outlaws led by a guy called Hord who go to live on an island (or 'Holm') just off the coast of mainland Iceland. It's not the greatest of the sagas by a long way, but its a fave after I picked up a copy in Reykjavik.
