A lot of discussion goes into the matter of opinions on this BB and I was reading through my newspaper this morning and ran across the Teen section that is in every Monday paper. The subject was opinions and was titled 'Am I too opinionated? Maybe so, but hey, it's my right'. It was submitted by a high school senior from one of the local and I would like to submit it on the BB.
I dont agree with everything the young man said but I do think he presented his view well for the most part.

Am I too opinionated? Someone said I was and it started the wheels in my head turning on the pondering thought of whether or not I am.

I began thinking and thinking and came to a conclusion: It is my right to be as opinionated as I want. People may not like it, but it is their right to be opinionated also.

Opinion, in the dictionary, is described as the prevailing view of a person. I hate it when people say I stink at writing, singing, making movies or whatever, but I now look at their opinions as a tool. First, I determine if the person knows what he or she is talking about. Second, I see if he or she understands what I was talking about. Third, I use it as a lesson of constructive criticism. Simply as that.

I dont think it's wrong to say what is on your mind. I think that everyone should. If you don't like someone, dont let him or her continue on believing you do until one day they hear through the grapevine that you don't. Of course, then you'd probably deny it to their face and the cycle happens again. I believe a better conclusion is to tell the person who is bugging you to leave you alone and go away.

On the other hand, don't tell others you hate them, unless your're venting anger and the person you are talking crap to about "Person X" knows you're only venting.

What if you write a letter to a school newspaper about an issue and someone else tells you you are too opinionated? Isn't writing such a letter my constitutional right of freedom of speech, not to mention freedom of press? Why do you have to stay quiet about some things? I like an open debate just as much as the next stubborn person. I don't understand why so many people get on my back for voicing my opinion as much as I supposedly do.

Here's my opinion: If everyone said what they thought, the world would be a more bitter place to live, but many people also wouldn't have deep, emotional scars from being lied to over and over again. They'll have emotional wounds, but those will heal a lot less painfully.

That's all I have to say about that.

You gotta consider the source, and then decide if the criticism has any validity whatsoever.

A message board, being the type of forum that it is, is asking for opinions. Some people will post intelligent opinions (ones that agree with me :) ) and others will post the wrong opinions (ones that I disagree with :( ). Some people will post just to be cruel, or provocative, or seductive...

Consider the source.

*nods* exactly and that was mentioned in his article. Something that impressed me, actually.
