Open War: plot forming stage

I've wanted to do a large scale war thread for some time now. it is likely to jump right into an important battle and hopefully have dozens of named characters and lots of people dieing.

I am not sure of what type of thread just yet, so which do you prefer Sci-fi or Fantasy?

Sci Fi wars. It's waaaaay easier to get out of hand. Fantasy wars rage across a continent, Sci Fi across teh un1v3rs3!

Well right now it looks like my bad spelling is going to win another poll.

I'm going to need a second general, supreme commander, or what have you when I post the actual ooc/casting. Obviously there will be at least two sides and I hope to have PC's on both sides. If more sides appear as may be the case then I'd need a third. The leader of each side is virtually a GM and will be responsible for major NPC actions. So if this sounds appealing to any one think about it, because it'd be very bad for this person to drop out.

In case of Sci Fi it'd be to close to home. Faster then light travel will not be present. So the battle fields will all be in our solar system, and battles will be centered around the areas with considerable populations. (Earth, Mars, the moon, and Venus Venus.) Gas giants can not be realistically terraformed but the moons of most will have small populations.

As for fantasy bunnies is right and it will be centered on one continent, at least for the first few sections. (Nothing stops a powerful army from building a navy and invading an attacking power.) The war here would likely involve two or three kingdoms directly but all races are likely characters because there is money to be made or a characters on personal views on the conflict.

I'd be willing to do either. Also, you can assign me a rank(other than cook, for example). This means anything from supreme commander to special ops.(yes, they had special ops. back in the fantasy day) to a grunt. I can do any.

I'm not familiar with games work shop myself.

So far sci fi is in the lead granted it would be interesting for me to start a thread based on my bad spelling, if there is a tie I will go away from bad spelling.

Any how I'm glad the rank and commander idea is appealing. We will have to see if it is effective. I'll move on what the poll says by Friday and post an OOC thread for the winning idea. If I do do it by then it will appear on Monday, I have plans to hike five miles set up a tent and freeze myself in the snow for this week end, and my suffering simply takes priority.

I'm surprised at the number of times this has been viewed and only has five replies. Come on people vote!

Nope.

Though I did play quite a bit of NationStates so this thing is not unfamiliar to me.

I am Xelebes, Field Marshal for the Armed Forces of Jambonia. Futuristic, cuz then we can come up with cool weapons, but also the armies can be a lot more massive. A wave of 10 billion craft headin towards your Astral Electric Extraction Systems (AEES or Dark Stars)?

Hey now weapons and magic should go through me. I want to keep things balanced and in the case of the future setting "Real" if thats possible.

The comon weapons will be advanced explosives, rail guns, lassers, and particle guns. Coarse you can spin off of these areas, X-ray lassers are probably more common then standard lassers, Hand held rail guns could fire needles, etc.

Magic is much the same way and magic weapons also. While it is possible 1 person can beat 12 with the right item or piece of gear, I don't think every one should have access to such items.

Part of my reasoning here is to keep things eassy for some one to come in late. If the battle field is in our solar system the person can relate quicker. So on and so forth.

Unless a bunch of pople come in and vote fantasy (Or bad spelling) sci fi will have an ooc tomorow. Assumeing I get online tomorow aswell.

What about nanotech? Will you allow that?
Or, perhaps cybernetics?

Nano tech is very important in terms of bio tech working and even make cybernetic simpler. It will be in the back ground. The Grey ooze scenario is a widely feared concept and because of it nanotech isn't used as a weapon. Weapons have been made using nanotech but these doomsday devices were destroyed shortly after the technology was first developed. In Short the Grey ooze scenario is similar to the M.A.D. Doctrine and has effectively prevented the use of these weapons.

In short it's there for use but don't abuse it. Nukes are also available but a nuclear war would also be destructive and these weapons will have Major consequences if used. You could also say man has moved away from civilian casualties.

I have received requests for a rank by several people already but, I am not confirming any ones rank here. In my third post when I first mentioned the general, I asked people to just think about it. I hope you've come up with a decent idea of were you'd like to be, but sides haven't been mentioned yet so ranks are rather pointless right now. Please pick a side and ask for a rank around the area you would like.
