it's hard to get by, just upon a smile...

damn I love this song. Why don't I play this CD more often? I'm gonna go listen to it again.

The artist formerly known as Cat Stevens?

I know this is going to sound really truly awful and judgemental, but he was so talented before he went all nutty and Muslim (which I know are not synonyms, but damn). It makes me sad.

Doesn't sound awful to me. Cat, now known as Yusuf Islam, has made some pretty imflamatory statements since he turned to Islam.

He was a truly gifted artist and is a great loss to the mainstream music business.

Aww see now Father and Son just came on. This one will make me cry for sure.

bumped because I love this CD so damn much I'm playing it again and singing loud while I make pancakes. Who wants some?

People change and move on. I know Cat did what Cat had to do. I also think we lost a great writer/musician in the process. Even now I think his music is fresh and different.

Yup. It stands alone.

I know everyone has a right to seek their own path and make his or her own choices, but it still just makes me unhappy that for religious reasons that are entirely unclear to me (because if there is a god, how could he give someone such talent and not intend it be used?) the world had to lose this unique voice. And the fact that 25-30 years later all of his stuff sounds as fresh, passionate and relevant as it did then...just can't get my head round it is all.
