i realized something, nothing here deals with world war two! and it's such a great area to RP!

so i'm putting this out to you as something unmoulded. do you want to do a Band Of Brothers kind of thing? where we all pick charechters, and follow them throughout the war?

maybe visit each battle? like to Dieppe, and then do Kursk, and then the Sicilly campaign? and then Stalingrad? and then the Battle of Britain?

up to you, we will of course also need people to play nazi's and italians and of course the soviets! but if we do different batt;les, i don't think that will be too much of a problem.

I like the idea of a WWII thread, I knew a few people have tried before as recently as 2 weeks ago. I'm no history major but I would like a wolfenstein type of thread.

*grins* big history buff here. wolfenstein hmm? so exotic escape, outnumbered thousands to one?

well PM, the way i see it, you may like to be part of something along this line.

French Canadian Vingt-Deux. - the BEST nighttime commando raid party. if you want a camp of nazi's dead, they parachute a little ways away from the knowon nazi emcampment, move in, and kill the sentries with either their bare hands, or with knives, very little did they ever have to fire a gun. the sentries didn't know the commandos were there untill they were dead. after that, and swept through the camp, slitting nazi throats while they were alseep. when it was daytime, they still had a reputation. they would have bagpipers play with them, and they played certain songs. it was noted in many german journals, and eyewitness accounts from the french canadian, when the germans heard their songs, alot of the time they rooted up and ran.

Scotish/American brigade. - i can't remember the name, but they were famous for having balls of steel. the commander would ride in full dress uniform on top of a tank. the nazi's figured if they were THIS cocky, they must be amazingly good to back it up. lots of surrenders. there

or we could be POW's, like the wolfenstein, or some british commando team, or do it they way BOB did it lol.

what do you think?

Khad,

You've also pique my interest, I'll try to be from Force 136, sort of the precurssor to the Green Berets, where they go behind enemy lines and train guerillas resistance force...I think Epicurean might be interested also ...Let me know the theater, because Force 136 was in Malaya...

oooo excelent!

i forgot to mention something! the allies had spies in the Nazi army, and so the Vingt-Deux didn't want to kill them of course, so any spy tied their showlaces so they were in lines, NOT X's anyone with X laces was a dead man.

we could also do battle of briatin stuff. and you can pretty much be British, Canadian or American for that one, because Britain had ALOT of forigen pilots, as alot of theirs had been killed or injured.

SELFLESS CANADA PROMOTION! of course, if you want to be the best in the air, you have to be Canaidan *laughs* we had the best training in both WWI and WWII. that goes for Army, and Airforce. in but in WWI Britain owned the Sea, and in WWII britain and the states were masters of the sea. of course the japanese too.... their pilots didn't do the best... well after about midway through the war they started to crap out, but i donno.... the only real naval blunders were chance occurances and commander calls, not really the navy's fault.... Canada had a great navy, but it was overshadowed by those three.

zir

if we do the hopping idea, we'd pretty much be all over the map. after what we wanted to do in western europe ended, "meanwhile on Midway island" and after that "meanwhile in eastern Russia" and we could do the battle of Kursk.... oh i so want to do the battle of Kursk....

just immageing it. millions of foot soldiers. 600 Soviet tanks face off against 400 Nazi panzers. the battles lasted three weeks. by the end it was hard to hit anthing, because there was so much smoke from the cannon blasts....

if you're russian alot of your guys die. ALOT. but you win! *thumbs up*

so yeah, of course we could do malaya.... but it kind of depends on how we approach the thread

Khad,

Hopping is fine, what year and where to start?

I mentioned Force 136 because that was sort of a character that I had in mind , a commando but training the natives for combat...

Z

You got my interest as well, I was trained as a US Army paratrooper. So the Band of Brothers idea appeals to me, and I have met some of the guys who jumped into Normandy and at Market Garden. Would be interested no matter what you decide.

alright, we can start at alot of places. if you want we can start at D-Day, of before that, we could do the battle of Dieppe. but that means the allies are running. we could all take the kind of charechter we want, Zir, you could be training troops, and get captured, we could stretch the training thing out a but though. and we all find ourselves in a POW camp, we escape, satisfying PM's need to do the wolfenstein kind of thing, get back, and start doing paratrooper raids behind nazi lines, satifying both air and myself.

this leaves out the pacific war and the USSR, but if we want we can do those later.

how does that sound as a general plan?

lol this OOC has been up for about an hour, so not many people have gotten a chance to look at it. i think i'll leave it overnight, see if anyone new joins. we have four people right now. thats okay, but more would be good too.

so we can keep planning today and proabbly tomorrow, might get this one up and running sooner than i expected!

What year are you planning on this starting off in? So I can have an idea of how much training my character has had already.

i was thinking 40 or 41, maybe 42. that way most of the huge battles are still open. like buldge and kursk, at least i don't think they happened untill later. i'll look into it.

The battle at Kursk that you are thinking of happened in 43, and the Bulge, or Ardennes Offensive, was in 44. Any other questions, I have a good working knowledge of the Second World War.

thanks. myself, i do too. just times seem to be blurry lol

alriight, so how about 42?

Sounds good, the tide would just start to be turning for the allies, and my character could be a paratrooper already. Both the 82nd and the 101st were formed as airborne units that year.

thats also the year where the Soviet Union really got everyone together and started whiping the crap out of the nazi's too, right? kursk, and Stalingrad was the first major loss for the Nazi's, i'm pretty sure it was around then.

seriously, no one gives the Soviets enough credit. yeah, it's true. they were getting the tar beaten out of them, but thats because they had their armies spread all over the place. once they rallied all their troops, and solved that shortage of arms, they were an unstoppable wave of slaughter.

Yes Stalingrad was in the fall of that year. As for whipping the Nazi's, the Soviets almost got wiped out at Kursk. If the German's had kept attacking for another 3 or 4 days they would have destroyed the Red Army. During the last few days of that battle almost all of the prisoners that the Germans captured were from the Asiatic regions. The Soviets were practically bled white in that battle.

lol you have a point, the tank battles were harsh. most armor peircing rounds just bounced off the panzers lol

but you also have to take into account that even at Kursk, the USSR didn't have it's full strength. millions of troops were still in transit to get to the front.

Oh shit, you made it AND retained your sanity too? Wow, didn't think it was possible... I just got chaptered out of basic for "lack of motivation"... fuck the drill sergeants... all I did was laugh at them and drop out of every single run... mother fuckers!

Anyway, Khadgar, this thread seems like an interesting idea. I'd like to sign up as a Soviet soldier. Unless they only play a minor role in your thread. In that case, I'd take one of the Americans. Shit, I might not be able to be one in real life, but I can always play a soldier!!!

Soviet? GREAT! hmm.... the POW can be in middle germany? or poland?

and you're lucky it WWII and nor WWI, because the average russian soldier in WWI had the inteligence of a 10 year old. LOL

Why, you mother fucker!!!!
JK

They had poor leadership (outdated command structure). Poor leadership in WW2 too. Fucking Stalin killed half of his own officers because of his deep fear of mutiny. Regardless, they held their own in both wars.

Of course, being Russian, I might be just a little bit partial here...

are you kidding?!

yeah, stalin was a heartless bastard who killed alot of his own people, and had alot of his sldiers die. BUT when his armies were rallied he was unstoppable. Stalin was the guy who scared the shit out of the americans after WWII, what he did carried into the cold war.

yeah, he was a prick, but if you take away emotion, he did pretty good as a military commander.

Hiter, he was a polotician, but he didn't want to give power over his armies fuly his generals. that was the root of alot of problems for him.

Yes, I know that Stalin did much to advance the Soviet cause. I'm just saying that it's hard being a private with no commander telling you where to point your rifle.

As for Hitler, he was one of the greatest military minds of all time (yes, I said it!). Very smart guy. Right up there with Alexander the Great and Napoleon. As with any military leader, however, he was prone to make stupid fucking decisions. Any way you look at it, invading the largest country in the world and going toe-to-toe with the best army in the world is NOT a good idea. The only reason he didn't get wiped the hell out at the Soviet border was that the Russian army was still reeling from Stalin's "restructuring."
