OOC: Treasure Hunters

I have an idea for a thread. It is about some treasure hunters so to speak who have been brought together by a very powerful person so that they can seek out a certain treasure for him. Little do they know that they person that has given them this task is a demon who wants this treasure no matter what so that he can destroy the very existence of the universe. He promises the group so much money that they jump at the chance to do this job, much to the joy of the demon.

As for the group they have been competing since they began and will do anything to get the treasure and money for themselves. Apart from the treasure hunters there are others that are trying to get this treasure for themselves and others that are trying to stop them as they know what will happen if the demon gets it.

One other thing I thought that I would throw in is that one of the group has been corrupted by the demon and wants kill off the rest of the group, get the treasure and take it to his or her master. I am not sure which one it is yet- I will tell that person in a pm. I don't want to be that person, where would the mystery be in that but I'll let him or her kill off the NPC characters that I will make up.

I hope that you like this idea and will jump in. I'll make up my character later (who won't be the group leader but I will be the demon) and then start this off on the actually thread.

INFO: Being a Drow, he is naturally greedy and unethical. Yet he is skilled, and is not merely a petty thief. His wood-colored skin makes him nearly invisible in wooded areas and he moves about like a spirit. Alliances are weak, and the treasure will be his at any cost.

It's about time I got back into the habit of writing, and this looks promising, as the others have well pointed out.

I've a few questions if you don't mind. First off, a contemporary thread or otherwise? Weapons allowed (e.g guns or swords - reverting back to the contemporary or medieval question)?

Anyways, a preliminary char sketch:

Name : Jonathan Mathis (Jon)
Occupation : Grave Robber (Treasure Hunter in more polite circles)
Age : 30

Jon is following his father's footsteps, a renown (infamous in Interpol's records) "treasure hunter". Looks he got from his father, tall, dark and mysterious, and smarts he got from his archieologist mother, who met his father while on an expedition in the Andes. His mother insisted that he attend an American college, studying, what else, but archieology. He turned out to be an indifferent student, much to his mother's chagrin, which cut off his allowances for the last 2 years of college. (Girls and Booze can be a potent mix of distraction) But he had been taught well by his father, and somehow, mysterious dissapearances of museum artifacts that eventually landed in private collections, allowed him to continue school and eventually graduate. Unbeknownst to his mother, he became quite a successful "treasure hunter". He became rich over the years, but his interest in seeing and touching an artifact that had not been seen for over thousands of years had not waned. In fact it became his driving force in life.

As such, the mysterious offer of the treasure pique his interest almost immediately. Almost immediately, cause he had to obtain and sell a priceless Ming Vase before he could take on another job.

Well, this is preliminary, so I'll adjust to fit the time period and restrictions that you have.

Her parents have long since passed away but that hasn't stopped her from trying to find the one aritfact her father spoke of often. It was said to contain incredible power. Enough to whipe out the universe. That isn't the reason she wants it of course. General Appearance: Sleek dark brown hair that reaches just below her shoulder blades. Deep blue eyes. Tanned skin-Spanish decent.
Occupation: Former professional rock climber. Theif.
Other info: Unlike the other members of the group, she did not grow up in a family with parents who were interested archeology or anything concerning the job she has just taken up. Became interested in ancient artifacts when a friend asked her to help him climb up to some cave dwellings. From that point on she became interested in treasure hunting, however the thrill and danger of finding the artifacts only made the rewards the much sweeter. Once out of college Stacey's adventures turned away from forgotten cities in jungles and into the urban jungles. Here she adapted her physical skills and desire of treasure to theft. Not petty theft though. She was taken up by a crime family, stealing treasure from musuems and private collectors. This high risk life style didn't last long though. One very important job fell through, putting Stacey on very bad terms with some not so pleased people. She fled the city, soon later the country and has taken up this new job because of the promised money.

Background: While he is officially the Executor of his family's vast estate and the sole surviving member of his bloodline; Julius' real work is as an agent to the enigmatic Hebron Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving order and the status quo. He is sometimes called on as an aqquisitions agent to retrieve items of power for the Foundation. These are typically artifacts that will either be used by or hidden by the Foundation to keep them from the hands of the irresponsible. Julius spends most of his free time in the dilapitated and dusty Pryce Manor in a remote countryside, but his travels have taken him to steamy jungles, blasted wastelands, deep caverns, and many other places of mystery. He is a skilled swordsman and pisol dueler, and is fluent in nine languages not counting the dead languages which he has been called upon to decipher on his adventures. He is investing the money he has made on these adventures into a hot-air derigable (a zepplin).

Appearance: Jason has chocolate colored skin, dark brown hair, and brown eyes. He is well built and has a tough look.

Background: Jason Roberts joined the U.S. Marines right after high school and stayed in for 10 years. He quickly showed his military prowess and was assigned to a special forces unit. He is very good at hand-to-hand combat and is an excellent marksman. After leaving the Marines, he went on to become a security expert, mainly for safari's and expeditions. When he was contacted to join the hunt for the treasure, he quickly signed on, knowing that he could retire early after this mission.

Manfred Allison PhD received his doctorate in Ancient studies at the age of 22. Now 35 he has been all over the world studying everything from Apulia, or known as the Italian "heel", the Italian region with the highest concentration of prehistoric megaliths: the ancient standing stones, dolmens, and burial chambers, to the ‘Stone of Scotland’ with it’s Brochs and Cairns. From Easter Island to the Plains of Nazca, he has traveled searching, maybe just for himself, maybe for something in particular, or maybe just to have seen it.

A determined, aggressive man, well muscled with a strong back and a will to match. Those that travel with him either keep up or are left behind. Constantly brushing the long dark hair out of his piercing grey eyes as they stare intently into some black chasm or crevice. Can be heard murmuring as if speaking to someone unseen. He claims, “I just wanted to hear someone intelligent speak.”

Okay- I thought I would introduce my character.

Adam Richards looks like any other book worm and he is. He has a high IQ and loves nothing more than to solve problems that mystify him but he also loves to do all the dangerous things that come with the job.

He has gotten himself in trouble with the law though over a misunderstanding with an artifact that he found but had stolen by a rival. He is wanted by Interpol and several other police agencies and all he wants is to clear his name and find more treasure.

I am still interested however I created my character to fit in with a sort of Victorian/Steampunk setting, he'll need updating but the concept shall remain largely the same. If you could PM me any details or ideas for a sub-plot you may wish to engage in I would be most appreciative.

Robert went into the army a skilled marksmen at the age of 18. Never saw eye to eye with anybody and was doing so many pushups and other punishments that his body was able to take pain and ignore it. Was booted out when he was about 24 when he was caught sleeping with a generals daughter aqnd wife at the same time.

Background:
She has no formal training or schooling but was tutored by her parents as they were constantly traveling. They were Archaeologists. She was taught several languages and much of history as they went about living. She was actually even born in Egypt while her mother was working.
Her parents died when she was 20 and then she went to live with her Uncle in London who was ailing from cancer. She know lives in his flat there and works at a nearby Library and school.

As you already know if you have read the thread Randolph is the character that has delivered the letters to everyone.

He is in the employ of the demon and does whatever is asked of him so he will be there to great you all when you make it to the towers and he will give you your instructions. He is not a demon but a human that has given himself over to the demon so that he can get some of the power when the domon takes over.
