OOC: Warlords of the Void Sci-fi Strategy/Roleplay game.

For those of you that have been following the other threads I have run I like to try different things. So I think it is time for another Strategy thread. Since I have done the semi-historical (lite on the history high on the fantasy adventure) thread with much successes I think. It has run for at least a year and has only gained more players since the start. During this time I have seen great ideas and role-play. Now I want to cater to a whole new group of players/writers.

The new thread will be a true Sci-fi/fantasy thread. Starships and magic......knights and wizards and galactic conquest. A chance to command assassins, lead holy crusades, build factories, send troops to war, or you can just sit in your palace raise taxes and wonder why nobody except your mistress likes you.....

Care to be a warlord? Command a city-state or other setup on one of the habitable asteroid worlds. Make your own sci-fi path. So who wishes to lead a noble house? This will run much the same as my other thread and please don’t feel confined to the races I have mentioned create your own or modify the basic ones to form a sub-race. I will be posting the current storyline soon but wanted to post the background first. Please ask questions and let me know what you want and don’t want. Characters will interact at royal court and their home planets. This is a space saga waiting to happen...........join me. Space, magic, romance and adventure.

The short version though I hope you read on is Dune meets Star Wars with 50% Flash Gordon pulp space adventures. Looking for leaders and soldiers. I hope you like it I have enjoyed creating it and I didn't want to run someone else's world. Let me know what you think....

Background Information

Some 800 years ago the Great and Powerful God Kronos pasted the blade of power to his most devoted worshipper Marquis Andrealphus. With 30 legions (4000 men to an imperial legion) of power armor clad troops he struck out across the galaxy. He drove back the soul stealers, killed millions of Space Orks, and almost wiped out the Cyclops and mutants hordes. He was ruthless in his conquests only stopping long enough to build a fortress and drive on to the next goal. Then he wed Princess Magdalena Dorothea, the Evening Star of Ferval. She in her own right is a powerful noble. She was trained as an assassin, wizard, and power sword maker. Over the many centuries she would teach him and bare him many children whether naturally or by clones. Though it is said she taught only the princesses the ways of magic. The emperor destroyed much and built even more.....

With magic items the now Emperor captured in battle he put them to use and to construct a massive field that enveloped all captured territory (some 183 worlds, space stations, and livable asteroids). He had hoped it would be a shield but it fell short of that wish greatly. It created a barrier that filled space with a reddish fog. It allowed most subjects to breath in the upper atmosphere though. As a barrier to invaders it lacks any real defensive value. A starship can fly through it like it is nothing more then a brick wall with no real damage. This displeased the emperor greatly who some 500 years ago began constructing an armada for defense of the empire and it is a continuing project to present day. Called the Void since it came from nothing it is a constant reminder of the Emperor’s great power.

Now to answer some questions some of you may be having at this point. The Emperor has kept himself alive for these some 900 years due to magic, science, and sheer will power. Now he resides inside the palace communicating through computers as he lies in a healing vat. Over the years he has had many clone bodies and used magic and potions to keep him young. Some believe but would never dare say it aloud in court that it has made him unstable even mad. Still orders come and wars go on against the above-mentioned enemies outside the Void. The Empress rules over the grand council and the House of Lords but often tends to her some 25 covens of witches (think warrior nuns ) and other secret societies of witches. She is also the patron to Astarte goddess of fertility, love and sexuality. The sisters of the church preach the joys of love and marriage, but at the same time run brothels near military bases and knight chapters. The children produced in these encounters become wards of the church and are given to covens or chapters to raise and train as soldiers or witches depending on need. The empress though junior partner in the relationship is not one to be trifled with and is a daughter of Kronos (yes literally the God). She hence ages very slowly and for a woman of some 500 years she looks like a young 40 and still enjoys having children often is known to keep several 24 days in a row.

The original 30 legions formed the first knightly chapters which now number some 48 with thousands fighting man each and some say tens of thousands supporters ( armor makers, transport crews, priests, factory workers....etc.) The Emperor knows all these knights personally and has a hand in the selection process. The High Priest of Kronos blesses their standards and often times weapons of champions. There heavy armor allows them to take many direct laser hits and explosive damage. It makes them huge (standard unit makes a knight 7' tall) and hence a power crystal generator is necessary to move and fight. The weapons are still handled in hand whether it is standard laser weapons or energy swords (okay a light sabers), power sword (sword with a force field around it) or plasma pistols and rifles (very rare). With the many violent forms of life and enemies of the empire the chapters are kept busy fighting all over the galaxy. They recruit from noble and freemen alike and sometimes-even peasants. They are a force that is not easily defeated which seldom happens. The heavy power armor they use is very expensive so few aside from knights and nobles own suits. Some custom rigs include jetpacks, rocket racks, and heavy plasma cannon packs.

The social order of the empire goes as peasant, freeman, noble and knight, then on top governors and the royal family. When the emperor established the Void he had little left of his people because of the years of constant warfare. So his second in command Caym known as The Teacher was charged with the rebuilding. Basically provide people to fill the army and build and care for the many palaces the emperor wished to build. So Caym began to build generators hundreds of them that could easy clone the necessary personnel. As many as a million new lives were created in a month. First just peasants (think typical male and female European medieval villagers) and soldiers (equipped with lighter combat armor think aluminum but with the strength of titanium layered then laser weapons and grenades with many carrying power swords). Production levels only increased as they settled and fought on the worlds of the empire. In the following years sailors (for the starships) priests (for the church) and factory workers (you get the idea) were added to fill up the empire.

For service to the empire in the earlier wars all were rewarded with land. These became the freemen. A working class war group. Generally they can be described is having one city with factories a small army, and modest fortress homes. These clans are the backbone of the empire. They produce the goods, fight the wars, and provide recruits for the bureaucracy and priesthood. The nobles are much the same, with a greater difference in wealth, title, and amount of land. While a freeman may be a regional official and noble with be governor of a planet. The nobles always have seats in council while freeman must run for them. Most freeman can field legions while nobles can field armies. The ranks are knight, Baron, Marquis, Count, Duke, Archduke, Emperor. A young princess or prince of the empire can look forward to a life in court of their parents or the Emperor then shipped off to a skill school (martial arts, magic, industry), or the military academies. Many spend their lives either at lavish parties and orgies or dying on some godforsaken planet for the glory of the empire. Ain't life grand.

Technology is impressive even if many of the nobles still carry swords. Laser weapons fire up to three shots then need a short break to repower. Hence things are like pike and shot warfare so having a good sword handy is useful. Plasma weapons can fire rapidly, but the manufacture of these weapons is difficult and expensive. Imperials have duplicators (think replicators but I don't want to be sued here....lol) that are either nutritional, commercial, or industrial. While they can produce most anything they have their limits (thousand coffees in 12 hours, 100 rapiers ever 5 or 8 plasma cutters a week) so factories are still needed and of coarse there are custom jobs. The duplication of some items is outlawed and often trade guilds lobby to keep some items hand made.

The Imperials….

The God Kronos and his wife have been said to have a hand in all things and even imperials are made in their own image. The abducted Terans call Kronos Thor and even believe he once visited their home world (some imperial historians also believe this). Imperial freemen are blond, blue eyed and tall and strong, and strong without the diversity of Terans. Also another distinct differance is they have blue blood. On average they are stronger and life expectancy is 110 years without interference. Peasants are a more diverse lot, but even with them the differences are limited. More then a few generators allow variations in the appearance and skills of the final being produced. Though many imperials appear alike there are many diverse cultures throughout the empire. The people of Enviro 7 are rugged farmers living in hundreds of small farming communities and have a democracy. While the people of Yerse are desert people clad in robes and burkas, living in large cities under a military dictatorship. On Dollon the dress is similar to those in medieval Japan and live in a clan system. There is a regional governor above all and can and has in many cases taken direct control over a planet’s affairs.

All are united under the Emperor’s banner, and on many planets especially the more primitive ones the Emperor is worshipped as a God. Every world is expected to pay taxes to the empire in one form or another. Some planets pay in goods, others in hard currency (imperial silver), and many pay in recruits for the military. When the peasants were first created they were sterile, but this practice ended and now the population is uncontrolled and increasingly demanding more rights. The fear of alien hordes overwhelming the frontier keeps everyone untied together despite internal strife. There is always another war to fight whether it is for the church (unbelievers or cults) or the state (pretty much everyone else). The people of the empire are strong and live to fight.

Imperials are not the only race to inhabit the Void. There are many other races on both sides of the frontier. Some are loyal subjects others are dedicated enemies, and many times both.

1-There are the Boarmen. Basically tusked pig humanoids that are often called warboars. They love to fight and carry several butcher knives as well as a power broad sword as a rule. They do use laser weapons when it comes to "business matters." They have their own worlds where they dual, live like gluttons, and wait for the next war. They love to drink steins full of ale and eat large pizzas. They are only capable of maintaining large transport ships and fighters to fly to their next combat assignments. They hate greys but like lizzardmen. They love hot jungle worlds where they hunt almost daily (generators can create simple creatures like deer easily). They use cloning and generators to produce new warriors, but only maintain generators and are not able to build them themselves.

Motto: “Spill the blood, drink the ale, and enslave the weak.”

Favorite Class: Warrior

Imperial opinion: “The drunken brawls of the galaxy. Poor allies and hated enemies. They would assume stab you as drink with you depending on their mood.”

2-Grey aliens. The short gray big eyed little guys. They fight but would rather be building flying saucers (most imperials use rocket ships or hybrids of both designs). The larger and more complex a project the happier they are and even the smallest of Grey controlled colonies will have a shipyard of some type. They are a race of factory workers and technicians. Not combat savvy as some of the other races they like to have lizard men on their ships and as part of their garrisons. Greys are able to make plasma pistols cheaply and use them often. They love to build all classes of ship, but by far their most used is the Lite Scout class. They gave built some of the largest ships in the galaxy, but this can only be done with permission from the imperial government. Some of these monster ships have been over two miles long. These strange little creatures love to eat lobsters and baked potatoes and on their worlds it seems like there are a dozen restaurants only serving that on a block. They enjoy drinking rootbeer as well. Though they reside on many planets typically they like wide-open space or the complete opposite like life onboard space stations. Greys know the generator technology very well and the standard unit will produce 300 grey soldier/technicians a week.

Motto: “Live to build, love to work.”

Favorite Class: Technician

Imperial Opinion: “Handy little creatures to have around. Not very social and if you give them a break they will work on something else during their leisure time.”

3-Lizardmen rough, tough short warriors of the galaxy (greys are average 4' tall, lizardmen are 5'). They look like short little raptors with bowie knives and love the primitive machineguns (though they have added armor piercing and explosive rounds to go through modern armor). Also they still have claws and their teeth. They always wear their green jump suits. They live to fight and search always for glory in battle. The Platoon is their family and despite the name a platoon can be a basic 50 to 150 but never larger. They often find employment with greys, but volunteer to form legions to fight the enemies of the Imperiam or highest bidder. They like to eat Chinese food ( a program meal from Teran duplicators) and cola. Their females lay eggs but have "discovered" technology to produce thousands of eggs and hatch them in large heated nurseries. A young lizard can carry a blade within days of its birth. They often buy light scouts from the Greys to use as transport, but have been known to build their own.

Motto: “We live to die but you shall be at the end of my blade.”

Favorite Class: Soldier

Imperial Opinion: “We are truly lucky these fowl smelling creatures cannot think past the platoon level. With their willingness to fight and breeding cycle they could rule the galaxy if they desired it.”

4-Amazons though human in appearance are actually more like elves. They have toned strong bodies and pointed ears. They love the bow and power sword and live in all female colonies and worlds around the empire. There life is the way of the warrioress. Praying, farm work, and training are part of daily life. If a woman is not in her armor (always hand made) she is in her training Gi. The contact with men is limited to that of merchants and imperial officials. They do not hate man and many adventure around the empire, but generally they feel the sisterhood is stronger. They are farmers and hunters and live the simple life on their planets. They do use generators, but only to produce female soldiers and priests. Generally little girls are created in cloning with both wives giving blood and then praying at shrine. Some sects continue to carry their own children and not use the clone tanks though. Many covens form elite guards with these women, and many noble women use them as loyal bodyguards. They often use a star frigates for transport and fighting. They hate the Boarmen and often will begin fighting at the mere sight of them.

Motto: “A sister shall be at home with a scythe or the bow.”

Favorite Class: Ranger

Imperial Opinion: “A peaceful race of women who love to farm and only become aggressive until they are pushed. When that occurs it as if Kronos allowed open the gates of hell. They are kind and polite and good company when you can find one of their homeworlds."

5-Space Dwarves are the tough bearded warriors they always have been. Loving to build and work their worlds is filled with large smokey factories and deep mines. They love to adventure and fight the many strange creatures of the galaxy. They often have crusades to wipe out soul stealers and are always up to fight space pirates. The dwarves are split into two groups culturally. First are the Commanders all nobles and military men. Their uniforms look like those of Napoleonic times on Earth and love power sabers and laser pistols. They ride to battle on war ponies and are the clear leaders. They drink wine by the gallons and often at a dinner party each guest will have his own turkey. The "lower class" is the Ax Wielders. Though freemen they work in the factories and mines with the dwarf peasants and are all soldier/craftsmen. Power axes they all carry are all made by hand. Many make ordinbary handmade weapons for a living and go where the work is so they travel throughout the Imperium often. They love cheeseburgers and like to wash them down with logger. The two classes get along for the most part but always wonder how the other can live such a way. They are always united against their common enemies especially soul stealers always.

Motto: “Build it, fight it, drink it…”

Favorite Class: Men-at-Arms

Imperial Opinion: “These ax wielding warriors seem like they are from another age, and the current one is burden to be dealt with. Some would call them boarmen with honor, but they are much more then that. The leaders among them are chess players waiting for a street fight.”

6-Terans are the original humans taken as prisoners by the Greys before their empire was annexed by the Emperor. Though the home world is but a legend and many generations have lived in the empire they are still the rebels. Not allowed to own property or hold office they are always on the outside of the empire. They make up 80% of the pirate fleet. They raid imperial worlds in peacetime, and in wartime are privateers for the frontier princes. They love heavy laser pistols and power cutlasses. Generally they get along or will fight with anyone but they hate Greys who brought them to the empire. The Terans aren't picky eaters but are at home with burgers, fries, and cold beer. The medium size Grey combat escort ship and destroyer are favorites to capture and use in raids. How many Terans there are is a mystery.

Motto: “May you die killing Greys my child.”

Favorite Class: Freebooter

Imperial Opinion: “The troublesome cousins we never wanted. Slaves of a vanquished empire who are thieves and raiders. They are the gladiator that shall never bow even to the Emperor in the arena.”

I admire 40k....but there are some distinct differences. Does that mean your interested or just sharing your knowledge.

sonali00783...Glad your interested in this thread as well. please tell me your thoughts on a royal house...or any other thoughts for the thread.

Well if you aren't running a 40K universe there's no real point in me sharing my information on the setting. I'm not currently interested in playing this.

If I was running 40k I would have said so...so thanks for wasting my time. I at least try to launch new threads and come up with my own material.

How wonderfully mean-spirited of you. I was just making an observation and I only said that I wasn't currently interested in playing. But you nipped any interest I might have had in the bud.

Could have created your own house...Joined and played all you could say was it was like 40k.

Anyway some 50 plus views....Some seem to have interest so let me know what you think of my world thus far. What would you like to do? Know? What would make you want to play? :nana:

People seem to like sci-fi here so I would love for something new to work out.

Lot of viewers no takers?....Seems odd to me since strategy games sell so well and many novels of science fiction seem to be out there. What do the science fiction fans of Lit want? What can I change here to get a few writer/players.

I'm interested, but where would we as players start off as, Freemen? Knights? Any starting assets?

Good question....in this one you could pick pretty much anything you want....up to me to bring all the players together.

Freemen is a good choice and most similar to those who played in my other threads. Nobles well that a leader of many freemen. Knights are part of chapters, freelances, pledged to a house or holy order. You could be a grand master of an order or priest leading paladins.

This is call house wars because you have massive legions and a large family. So many Npcs and many character directly under your control. I was always a fan of the Dune series.

Do you want to genetically enhance your troops? Maybe turn them into werewolves or give them fangs? Assassinate rival house members? This the dark ages in the new dark future. You may carry a recharge lazer but you still need a good blade.

Loyalty to the Emperor above all else though.

The storyline will have your house or group what ever you decide go to the frontier to deal with a new and growing alien threat. Still have your home turf to worry about but a new coalition of aliens have been threating the frontier.

Starting assests will include things like troops, structures, family, and other things like reputation, scientific, and magical knowledge. A diverse background is an asset. There is no super house but better your background more I can give you to start with in this thread.
