Yes, another medieval thread. Okay, I'm starting this from scratch, right here, with little direction or idea of where it should go. So I won't be surprised if it doesn't take off.
I'm looking for characters that aren't powerful, maybe warriors or rangers or whatnot, but not the best at anything. I don't want heroes that aren't afraid of anything, but characters that are willing yet flawed.
If anyone's interested, post a character.

Name: Rassid
Gender: Male
Age: 35
Race: Human
Nationality: Nomad, Shamishi Clan

Description: Tall and thin with very dark brown skin and black freckles. His hair is black and his eyes are a sea green color. He wears loose fitting clothes, a hooded cape, and a scarf and veil to protect his face from the harsh desert wind and light.

Background: Rassid was born and raised in a nomad caravan on the burning sands of the Golden Desert. Because everyday is a struggle for survival and one wrong move could doom the clan, he was taught how to wield a scimitar, how to ride a horse and camel, and bow and how to live in the desert. He is one of the rare desert nomads to travel to more temperate lands in search of great fortunes and treasures. He and his band are frequently hired as caravan guards or desert guides.

Name: Prince Alexander Cobat
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Race: Human
Nationality: East Rim

Description: Average height with thin arms and a less than muscular frame. He has neatly trimmed blonde hair, pale skin, and deep purple eyes. He wears expensive royal robes (blue with gold trim, the kingdom's colors) made of silk.

Background: Alexander is the eldest son of King Gothire Cobat and heir to throne of East Rim. Alexander has never been fond of his royal upbringing and does not want to take the throne. He finds himself more at ease with the people of East Rim.

Recently, a plague from the west has found it's way over to East Rim, and many of the peasents in the slums are slowly dying and turning to stone. More become infected each day. No antidote seems to be available near East Rim, and Alexander begged his father to let him ride out in search of an antidote to the west. His father forbade it, simply saying that the slums are not important and he won't risk the life of his heir.

Gothire died shortly after of old age, and Alexander made a deal with his younger brother Lyim that Lyim would be king if he would allow Alexander to go hunt for a cure to the spreading plague. Lyim agreed and Alexander rode off on a horse to the west for a cure.

Unfortunatly, Alexander has been living a cushy life and is not prepared for the harsh "real" world. He has no skill with any weapon and his only defense is his natural charisma and full gold pouch. If he does not recieve help soon, his journey may end prematurely.

Looks good so far.

I'll bring back an old character that didn't quite get its chance to grow.

Name: Dust
Race: Dwarf
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Height: 4' even
Weight: 100 lbs (he's a little soft in the midsection).

A simple miner, Dust is young by dwarven standards and strikes out on his own, wanting to do his part to help his small family village to rebuild its once glorious empire. Like many dwarves, Dust is a heavy drinker and enjoys large meals with a good pitcher of ale. His battle experience is limited, and his weapon of choice is an axe, mostly because he has some experience with the weapon in terms of more practical usage.

Currently, he's traveling looking for good land to set up shop and mine.

Aris

Gender: Female

Race: Amazon

Description: 5' 9", built like...well, an amazon. Dark brown hair and brown eyes.

Background: Aris is the eldest daughter of the leader of their amazon tribe but she is a constant embarrassment to her mother as she continuously questions age old traditions and refuses to battle for the glory of it and has no interest in battle plans or conquest at all.

Her mother, out of fustration, claimed her younger sister Arlean as heir and champion which was fine since Aris had no plans on fighting for her own position as Queen when that day arrived.

Seeking something outside of her tribe, Aris bid them farewell and went to see what was in the outside world to everyone in the tribe's delight. She is fairly good with weapons though she chooses not to fight when possible and is in search for 'interesting' things more than adventure and glory.

Nice characters...

I like what I see, and PM, jump in whenever you're ready. You're always welcome on my threads...Nice to see you're still on the board. It's been slow for a while now.

Okay, back to the thread.
We need a basic idea to run with now. I meant it when i said that I had no direction. I just want the thread to keep moving, to be action-oriented, so we don't get bored with too much conversation, etc. as often happens here.

I, by the way, strongly support any information passed via PM, keeping contact open between RPers is imperative in keeping the characters moving in one direction and keeping the plotline tightly contained.

Now, what about that plot we need? Here's my thought, we find a way to have the characters converge at some point within thier first couple of posts, as to whether to meet up here and two there, or other combinations, makes no difference, so long as they meet up. Then we have them meet, all of them, elsewhere. We can work from there.

Oh, and I'm thinking full on fantasy, any type of species might show up and be a part of the thread. NPC characters are also encouraged.

My char can meet up with any of the others since she iw pretty much just wondering around. We should have a situation where, for some odd reason. there is something we have to come up against and defeat. At least that is the way that it usually works I think.

Maybe kind of a 'dirty dozen' theme where someone somehow gets us to agree to go against something that is dangerous but doesnt seem that important at first and why waste their best fighters when they can hire our rag tag band. Then it turns out to be something more than that and we are in over our heads before we know it.

Just a suggestion but the only one I have right now.

Looks interesting.

Name: Del Benson
Age: 23
Race: Human
Sex:Male

Del is a fromer member of a wealthy Barron's army. An army that was sent to battle that of another wealthy rival Barron. Del's comrades were subsequently whipped out, and now he and the few remaining, and swiftly depleating, survivors of the battle are living as outlaws trying to make thier way to safe lands.

Well, I think a good idea would be a battle to have us all meet at. We could all be thrown into the same fight. My character is likely to get into some trouble, so everyone could try and help him when he's attacked by bandits or creatures or whatnot.

It's good that the character have thier own motives before this starts (What should we name it, BTW?). It gives them character without needed additional characterization. I understand that there will be more characterization, what I mean is that none of us will need to rely on stereotypes to get them moving, which is always good.

Anyway, Emotionless, maybe get the character passed that particular hump before you blend him in with the others. History is good for a character, but that brings a lot of baggage, what with them enemy in pursuit. I want to start it off with forward motion, but not with blood-filled battles. Remember, the characters aren't in search of glory or anythng of that sort, just ordinary and carried away in something. Kind of like the hobbits in LOTR, as opposed to Gandalf and Aragorn.

Currently, I am brewing an idea, but it isn't much so far. Throw your ideas out as they come if you want.

yeah i know what you mean. I have a pretty good idea what im going to do with him, and it wont really involve anything in his present situation other then thats where he's comming from. so no worries about hords of invaders pouring in from lands unknown.

Cool...Let's get a title and get started. Six players is plenty to get things moving...I'[m sure once we're going, things'll start to develop well.

This does sound like a wonderful idea.
I have so many characters, I think I'll bring Garret into this.
A sly rogue, of undetermined age, older than a boy, but a look in his eye that reveals he's not quite a man yet. Good with the sword, great with the bow, lousy with a horse, and great with the women.
I would love to say his reasons are more substantial like revenge or tyranny, or simple boredom, but I am afraid he wasnt only money, just like mosts rogues of the day.

I like Secret's ideas, for a nice start to us all. Perhaps there is an invading army, a new species, or drow, or ogres, orcs, something dark and sinister, being led by an something even darker and more sinister.
Anyway, they are supposed to be going through this one valley. An old wizard (doesn't have to be a wizard, or old... but these things usually start with an old wizard) has put up flyers in one of the merchant towns that is right next to this valley, asking for a select group of people who are brave, and willing to take arms against this force coming.
The royal army doesn't get involved, because most of the rumors (and at this point, they are just rumors) of the evil, is nothing more than a few scared travelling merchants. So, the entire country is ill prepared... just one group of mismatched rebels.
This brings everyone together, either for justice, honor, bravery, or just plain money. The evil people are open, so that we can have one main evil guy, sending out different things against us: Magic, living trees, zombies, even golems...
oh, I love golems.

I guess it would depend on the plot we do, what title we want. I would purpose something like Bathed in Innocence or Blood Sword, something catchy like that.

Count me in on this one- I have a character that I have been saving for just the right thread.

Dailin
Human
24
5' 11"
185lbs
Long dark brown, almost black hair
Blue eyes
Weapons of choice: two scimitars

Dailin is somewhat of a jokester and cocky. He knows that when he goes into a fight with someone that he is most likely to win as he has been trained in nearly every form of fighting since he was a very young boy. He is a friendly person but when he knows that he can win a fight he becomes slightly arrogant and says the first thing that comes to mind which gets into trouble.

Sorry to do this, but...

Sorry, Angelus, but we'll need to tone him down some. Remember, we want basic characters, not talented swordsmen or master of any weapon. Just people who are fighting because they MUST. They'll become more skilled along the way, but to begin, we need them a bit green, and most of them have to be unwanting to fight.

I like the idea of the invading force, but instead of the real army being unwilling to fight out of disbelif, perhaps they do fight, and are fighting all the while, but are losing, and more are needed. Many would fight just to defend thier homes, or to protect the children that live in the areas. I think that works better for our purpose here.

Any disapproval will be respected. If we're in this, we're all in this. I'm not drawing the reigns save for the "All-powerful factor" which hasn't reared its ugly head yet.

I was also thinking that, in order to keep the different possiblities open, we should have them working in a different directin than flat-out attacking the enemy at every turn. Give them a quest, somethng that takes them off the beaten track, where the zombies and golems and giants are waiting...

What do you guys think?

Good ideas! Or perhaps our unwilling hero's are wisked off to some far off place by some evil intentioned wizard, or even a good intentioned but bumbling wizard and they have to find a way home. Along they way they'll have to run into all manner of beasts.

Just thought id throw my idea out there and see if anything bites.

Lost in a far off land....that has a certain pull to it.

Or if we each have our own quest that draws us to the same town/area and we band together along the way and when we get there, a bigger threat appears.

i'd be interested in this thread, i could be alomst anythign, don't really have a preference... elven dwarven human, hell orcish, well... they proabbly aren't going be on the same side... or are they? dun dun dunn.

i've played around with the wizardry aspect alot, and i'd klike to try just a normal shmoe kind of guy, think.... Angus from Braveheart. that kind of guy. "I culd crush ya. like a wurlm"

Alrighty, here goes nothing:

Name: Seven Clay
Age: 20
Height: 5'2"
Weight:130
Class: Theif

Clay is a terrible theif, having never served as an apprentice. As a result of being caught trying to rob people so many times, he is a fast runner and an expert climber.

Fighting isn't his strong suit either, he has trouble handling most weapons so he relies on a simple pair of brass knuckles. The only time he's really effective in a fight is if he manages to distract his opponent first, usually by throwing sand or dirt in their eyes.

Lil' bit of history: Clay was abanodoned as a child and grew up in orphanges all his life. When he was 15, he read about the adventures of Max Dreadmore, legendary thief. Clay ran away from the orphanage, determined to find Dreadmore so that he can learn from him. When Clay did catch up to Max, he robbed him blind and left him for dead in a forest. Since then, Clay has been living alone, determined to become a master thief on his own.

Whatever I don't care, pick something start this sucker up. if I don't like it I won't play if i do, I will.

I like him, PM...
And Khadgar, post your guy and we'll get him in the action soon enough. Alright, should we start this bling and just run with it?

Apologies...

I tend to be long-winded...

The main thread's up:Not Another Medieval Thread...

Start where you see fit. I have an idea of what the Wraith and wolf are, and have ideas for both, but the Wraith is fair game, so long as you don't kill it.

Have fun...

:( Could we agree to do this in the 3rd person past tense? First person in a group story is kind of wierd and makes for difficult reading.
