Do you remember the tv show, with James Arness as Marshal Matt Dillon? It ran for twenty years and before that was the radio version with William Conrad in the same role.
Our version of Gunsmoke is a light hearted, ribald rendition of that show.

The time is the 1870s the place is Dodge City Kansas, that wild and wooly cow town where the Texas trail herds meet the Santa Fe Railroad.

A little history...
Gunsmoke first aired on Radio (CBS) in 1952 and ran for ten years with William Conrad (remember TVs CANNON?...though he wasn't quite so fat in the fifties) as Marshal Dillon.
It became the number1 radio show and in 56, the TV series started with James Arness and ran for 20 years...anyone remember the lead in with the Marshal's butt, thigh and holstered six gun walking onto the screen before he blew another hombre to hell on Front Street?

The main characters from the series were
Marshal Dillon...Chester Proudfoot (his deppity)
Miss Kitty...(Whore turned Saloon owner)
and Doc Adams...the (whisky swiggen sawbones)

I'm playing Dillon,
Dillon's playing Doc,
Dawg's got Chester,
and Kit is of course Miss Kitty.
The rest of the characters are made up...

Soli will play the Parsons daughter,
Star..will be the schoolmaarm (I think...Star you still there hon?)

And I'd say we could use...
Dance Hall Girls
Desperado's
a Parson
a bartender
and about any kind of character youve ever seen in a western.
Please introduce your character here and then ride on in.

The RolePlay thread will open in a few days...

Above are two website that some of you young buckaroo's might want to check out in case you never had the joy of seeing or hearing the original shows.

Please post in the spirit of the times.

And here is a map of the town...

What happened to Festus?
And Burt Reynolds played the blacksmith.

Festus was a late edition brought in to replace Chester when he left the show.

Burt Reynolds character (can't remember his name) came on at about the samw time.
Both characters would be fine to play here though.

Id like to introduce a dance girl, I assume she would be working on Miss Kitty´s Saloon...

Her name is Caroline, she is 20 yrs old, orphan, her mother died when she was young, and her father got killed in a gunfight. With no family or money to leave the place she found job on the saloon as a dancer. Caroline is a 5´6 tall blonde, her eyes are emerald green. She has a voluptuous figure with a thin delicate waist. She used to be shy but has changed to be a more confident girl.

Ok, here is my character, hope its ok for the thread.

Hay I’d like to play, but I’m not sure what character. I’ll think about it and post later
Sail away

A western thread, damn thats gonna be tricky :( not much of a western tradition in the East LOL however.

I would like to introduce a non- mainstream character.

Agatha Williams or (Agie) 27 years old, Ranchers Wife
Strikingly attractive (of course)
Pretty good with a Winchester if needed and Baby Colt

Mother of 2 children (Hal - Henry James, and Billy - damn and no not inspired by the two princes LOL)

Sailaway - fancy playing a Rancher LOL I'd be happy to write alongside ya. PM me.

Lillian 'Lilly' Cross

Seamstress by day, works nights for Miss Kitty at the 'Longbranch'

Age 40, wavy auburn hair, beautiful mature woman.
Her husband vanished some time ago and she has one son she sent back East to college. (He's the reason for two jobs)

Hey we're doing great...welcome Whit Queen, Sailaway, Snork and Naughty...
Now I think we're shy a dude or two...
Any badboys out there want to play outlaws?

I think 'Lilly's' husband is an outlaw, he was acting very strangely when he disappeared and she tends to attract the bad ones.

Hey guys!

Here I am, the Parson's daughter, waiting to be shocked and corrupted! :D

I might be a little slow to post at first, but I'll get right into the swing of things.

SOLI

evern cowgirls get the blues

Well I don't think I've seen the show and it seems unfair someone named dillon doesn't get to BE dillon (lol) but I love a good period piece, so here goes...

Let's see, an outlaw gal named, uh, Thelma Urman. She's a tomboy, who hmmm, prefers them women cuz there's so many on this thread ;) and she runs around in her cousin Chester's gang.

And here's Uma Thurman being a good girl and playing my character for me...

Hey all, Wouldn't mind if I jump in?
I got a character in mind as the dark mysterious outlaw who rides into town. You know, the all black, tall dark and mysterious type. Damn good with a gun, hates to see women disrespected. His name would be Jason Satir.

How about a part-time poster?
A travelling 'tonic' salesman that goes by the name of Harold Earnhardt. I would like to pass through town from time to time and try to sell my 'Doc Harold's Root Tonic' (patent pending, hopefully) It is guaranteed to cure everything from anthrax to the common cold and then some.

The cast as it now stands...

Marshal Dillon.......Ariosto
Miss Kitty Russell..Lady Kit
Deputy Chester Proudfoot....Dawg69
Doc Adams....Dillon
the SchoolMaarm...(being held for StarX)
The Parsons daughter...Soli
Caroline, 'fancy lady at the Saloon...White Queen
Agatha the ranchers wife...Snorkmaiden
Lily, seamstress and fancy lady....Naughty
Thelma Urman a bandita....Morwen
Jason Satir, outlaw...Capt. Anarchy
Doc Harold, snake oil man...Dr. B

Okay we have a dozen, so let's saddle up and ride!

Dodge will still accept new characters but please post them on this OOC thread first.
Many of your descriptions (mine too) have been pretty sketchy so when you introduce your characters on the 'action' thread please take a moment to flesh them out a bit.

The thread will open in the morning.

Please note this...for reasons of fairness to slower posters there will be a cap of two posts per player per day.
Thanks pardners!

Hello,

You are still accepting players, right??

I would like to be Agatha Gulp, age 33, townsperson and local busybody.

Welcome Caspar...(nice AV!)
Can you choose another name for Miz Gulp though?
We already have an Agatha.

Ringo

I would like to join your thread as Ringo, an outlaw. I will flesh out my character in my first post. Looking forward to taking part in what promises to be a great thread.

Afternooner

The thread is open!
Kitty, Morwen, Soli,...I've given you all a lead in..but the rest of you needn't wait...just pitch in...with the number of players we have I expect to see plots and subplots all over the place.

Use the map I posted on this thread earlier to help you orient to Dodge.

A little more on Marshal Dillon...

http://www.ariosto.homestead.com/files/matt1.jpg

As you can see I chose the 5/8 William Conrad Matt, over the 6/4 James Arness Matt, maybe because I'm a bit closer to him in height but mostly because I like the 'rougher' more dimensional Marshal that Conrad played on the Radio.

Dillon was a decorated Union War Hero when he drifted west after the Civil War.
He went broke at ranching in west Texas and tried his hand at running a whorehouse and Saloon in ElPaso.
Moving north into New Mexico, he held a variety of jobs along the SantaFe trail and rumour has it spent a year in the territorial prison for killing a man.
He had a reputation for a fast temper and a faster gun that would probably have done him in eventually had not Wild Bill Hickock seen potential in him as a lawman.
He was Hickock's deputy in Abilene for two years before he took the job of federal marshal in the wild and wooly town of Dodge City two years ago.
He tamed the town and found a comfortable nich, padding his meager salary with the usual graft and exercising his skills with his pistolas on a regular basis.

He has rooms at the Dodge House, Miss Kitty is his main 'squeeze' (though both do stray from time to time).
The strikingly handsome, though somewhat vacant Chester Proudfoot is his deputy, and the garrolous, heavy drinking Doc Adams his best friend and chess antagonist.
Matt, constantly battles his waist line, loves good food and drink and revels in the reputation of his guns. The two at his sides and the one in the middle...

Sure. Didn't even see that! Sorry.

I will now be playing Imogene Gulp.

Kitty Russell presented an attractive picture. She wore her titan red hair swept high on her head, allowing an unobstructed view of smooth shoulders and generous breasts. Her dresses tended to run to shades that her mother would have called loud; after such a statements Mother would waspishly declare that she supposed nothing better could be expected of her flame haired daughter.

Kittys’ mother had always thought everything about her loud and brassy; punctuating the girls early life with admonitions to “Speak softly, Katherine. Be demure, keep your eyes down, men don’t like women who are forward. You should be more modest. Cover your hair Katherine, it’s much to bold that way.” Kitty had listened to it every day until she was 16 years old, then she’d caught the eye of a snake oil salesman. When he left town, she was with him. She never looked back on her old life, even changing her name from the plain Katherine, to Kitty.

Her life with the peddler had been a revelation. In addition to selling a home brewed snake oil, the peddler was also a gambler. Unfortunately he was not a particularly good gambler, because he tended to drink too much when he played cards. He took Kitty with him to the local saloons, hoping she would provide enough of a distraction to give him an edge; he never understood that it wasn’t an edge he needed it was enough common sense to know that you should never play cards when you’re drunk; and you certainly shouldn’t try to cheat. The snake oil salesman died a year after Kitty joined him; the victim of a bad hand of cards.

Now on her own, Kitty found work doing the only thing she was fit for, selling drinks and her body to the cowboys who passed through the local saloon. She found she had a talent for the job, and that she enjoyed it. The first time she’d walked into a saloon she’d known this was her kind of place.

Early on, she had crossed paths with the handsome Matt Dillon, and it was if not love, then certainly lust, at first sight. Some speculated that it was in fact Matt who had liberated Kitty from the snake oil salesman, but no one was bold enough to ask. It was well known that Matt had spent some time teaching Kitty the finer points of various games of chance, mainly how to maximize the take of the house. He had also given her the fine derringer that she carried concealed in a special holster.

She is a loud and lusty woman. Given to fits of temper and passion in equal measure. Her heart belongs to Matt, but she can be pursuaded to share her body.
