O-kay. I'm going to start a D&D based SRP here soon; I'm just looking for four to six volunteers. The game world is the Forgotten Realms; but the "Home Town" isn't a FR city, so spare me the "canon" grumblings, please. As soon as I approve a crew, I'll start the thread, and you can all jump in.

Oh, if you feel the need to make your character, the Level range to start is 1-3; I'll nail it down once I have Race/Class info from everyone.

Yes, this means that Drow are playable, but they'll be level 1, while a Human would be level 3. According to the books, it evens out that way.

I'd also prefer that everyone who wants to play be familiar with 3rd Edition, to some extent. It'll make things a bit easier on the race/class thing.

I would be interested.

I would be interested in joining. Just let me know. I have a concept of a character that I would be willing to play. I have knowledge of both second edition and third, although third is what I have been playing lately.

So like I said, just let me know.

Okay, post your race/class idea. We're only using 3rd ED. as a sort of framework, the general game itself will unfold once I've got a whole crew together. I plan on using a regular NPC, myself, though she won't be part of the original party, and a couple of recurring characters I remember fondly from the old days, back before we had things like "editions" to worry about.

Not complaining. 3rd ED. is probably the best FRP system, ever.

Ishkama

My character's name is Ishkama Killbane. She is a high elf. Her parents were killed when she was only 85, and so she was raised by her brother. He taught her the skills to get by on what others had, but taught herself to fight, one day vowing to get the men that killed her parents.

So, she is a theif (1st two levels) and a fighter (3rd level).

I would like to join the thread as a priest of a particular deity... I was just wondering, do all of us have to be good? If that is the case I would probably choose Sune as a deity, on the other hand Shar is one of my favorites... depends on what fits better in the thread...

Abraxas as himself (sorta)

Well, if its ok with you i'll join in Playing Abraxas, a young Magi from waterdeep. He's a 19 year old human male, wears normal clothes & carries a staff. & if its OK with the GM (post moderator in this circumstance) I'll be a wild mage :D

No familiar as of yet, he's still a little young to have called one up.

Sounds good so far.

Regarding alignment: This game will require a certain amount of altruism, and your main opposition will definitely be evil. If you can combine all that with an evil alignment, more power to you.

I'll be posting the first several posts purely as DM, mostly narrative. I'll post as NPC's and monsters as you encounter them, so watch the "subject" of my posts to see who I'm posting as.

Like I said, you'll be helping some folks out, so keep that in mind with your character choices.

Initial Level for the game will be determined by the highest Race/Class combination, so if we don't see something like a Genasi, Aasimar, Drow, or something else that adjusts the overall level, everyone's going to be level 1.

Mind you, White Queen, if you want a villainous part, one can be added, a little bit down the road.

Well, I've got two and a half, out of four to six......

<bump>

Chararacter...

I'm already playing an ADND (2nd edition) game elsewhere, and i would like to use my char from that game, who is a human fighter (with a kit that i made myself). He's still level 1, so... that's ok... :)

Hmmmm.. never been too fond of player-invented kits, but PM me the details of the character, and I'll try working up a viable 3rd Ed version. 3E is a hell of a lot more flexible than anything anyone ever did to 2E.

Well then I will take on the priest of Sune and like you said. maybe I will have the chance to play a villian later on... :)

Im fairly keen to play....

i would of posted earlier but i only just got back from a holiday

i'll think of a character tonight and post sometime tommorow

umm that was from me

umm that was from me

cookies must of been refreshed when i was gone

Let's See:

Azerin: I'm still working on your character. The Kit would become a Prestige Class, and as it stands is too powerful in some ways and too restricted in other ways to leave "as is". I can see you'd like your character to be an Archer par excellence<sp?>, so I'm thinking in terms of Feats. as a Human Fighter, you'd get three. I'm still trying to work the archer angle into the concept for you.

White Queen: Welcome aboard.

Dharwal: Let's read your character Idea. You'd be fifth in the 4-6 range I was aiming for. I'll start the thread as narrator as soon as I have yours and Azerin's characters settled. I should be set with Azerin tomorrow.

Main Post will be titled Fairhaven, named for the city where a lot of this is going to happen.

I'd love to play but..

Hey SpectreT - I'd love to join in this SRP - but I am only familiar with First edition AD&D - I am very familiar with forgotten realms - nice campaign setting.

I would love to play a Female Human Ranger, or Female Valley Elven Cleric.

Please let me know if you would like me to join in

3rd ED is pretty cool. Not too much to unlearn if you're familiar with both (and this shows how old school I am) Basic Dungeons & Dragons and Advanced. 3rd kind of bridges the gap in some ways, makes it faster and more fun, while retaining a certain level of complexity. We've got a Priest and a Druid aboard already, so Ranger would be the best role, I think.

(all these woodsy types in a port city..... Hmmm.) :D

By all means, join us. You'd make the sixth. I'd like everyone to at least post a physical description here for their characters before we hit the main thread.

All your characters have known each other for at least a couple of months now, as you've been working together as caravan guards.

Azerin, I'll PM you my version of your character as soon as I finish him.

ok, let me lead off

Abraxas Winterlight is a young male age 19 from Waterdeep. He has chestnut brown hair, with a lock that almost allways covers his left eye that he keeps flipping back. He has bark brown eyes & stand 5'10" tall. He carries a black wooden staff, & has a dagger on his belt. No familiar as of yet. He is usally a pretty easygoing person, but does get angry or upset, like young people do.

Just thought of something

hey everyone, I just thought to add that I do have all the 3rd edition ( & second edition, what can I say, i'm a geek!) books, including Magic of faerun & the FR 3rd edition books, so if anyone has any questions (Snork Maiden in particular) I'll be happy to lend SpecterT a hand.

Cool. Thanks. And I've got all the "official" material, too. Any questions, Abraxas or I can help you out.

Rakal Arablest (Description)

Rakal is a 33 yr old Half-Elf male from (insert woodsie FR forest here).

He was raised in a forest after his human father and elven mother had a forbidden marriage and moved away from both societys. After his father died not long after his birth and his mother returning to her elven kin, Rakal was left at an age where he could fend for himself, with close ties with nature (being brought up in a forest) Rakal came under the care of the Druid of (insert forest) after freeing some animals from some snares.

Rakal has short tawny brown hair about 1 inch long which often has some grass bits poking out, his hair tries to hide his slightly pointed ears but does not quite manage to do so, his has brown eyes and is of fairly light build, standing at 5'7". Rakal has managed to combine strength with grace and is easily misjudged.

Great - I am a very fast learner and I am sure you guys will help me out with the subtleties.

A couple of questions

Does the 3rd Edition Ranger still maintain these same pre requisites and abilities.

hit bonues on 'giant class' monsters like bugbears goblins orcs etc
surprise and initiative bonuses
tracking abilities
3 Initial weapons, new weapon proficiencies after each 3 lvls
The ability to specialise in weaponry as a proficiency oprion.

My character's name is Fern Falconhand - in keeping with the families and descendants of the bard Storm Silverhand and The Simbul of Aglarond.

Her alignment is CG, Deity Vidar, and her homeland is the Dalelands of Esper. Her family has strong ties with the Harpers and she has a particular hatred of the Zhentarim and their agents.

Hair color platinum blonde, height 5'10 , quiet disposition, enjoys both periods of solitude and company. Age 19 years, Weapon proficiency (throwing) Axe, (melee) Long Sword (missile) Short Bow. Str14,Int11,Wis13,Con15,Dex18,Cha14,Com17

Let's see, Rangers are pretty close to old school in most regards. Weapon Specialization is a thing of the past for them though. It's now reserved for Fighters only, and only after 4th level.

Rangers now select a "favored enemy" at first level, gaining new ones at 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels.

Favored enemies are by type:

Aberrations (ex. Beholders), Animals (ex. Bears), Beasts (ex. Owlbears), Constructs (ex. Golems), Dragons, Elementals (ex. Xorn), Fey (ex. Dryads), Giants (ex. Ogres), Humanoid (type), Magical Beasts (ex. Displacer Beasts), Oozes (ex. Gelatinous Cubes), Outsider Type (Fiend, Aasimar, Tiefling), Plants (ex. Shambling Mounds), Shapechangers (ex. Werewolves), Undead (ex. Zombies), or Vermin (ex. Giant Spiders)

A ranger gains a +1 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot and Wilderness Lore checks against a Favored Enemy. They also get a +1 to damage against their favored enemy. The bonus increases by +1 at each level the Ranger gets a new Favored Enemy.

I looked through the 3rd ED FR book, and there's no Vidar among the deities. FR Deities likely to embrace a Ranger in the 3rd ED are:

Chauntea, Mielikki and Silvanus.

That's it for the nature and animal Deities these days.

Oh, I almost forgot... Weapon and Nonweapon proficiencies are gone in 3rd ED, too. Now Classes are considered proficient in the uses of weapons based on a weapon classification system: Simple, Martial, and Exotic.

Skills and Feats give players a lot more leeway in preparing the type of character they want to play than the old proficiency system.

Rangers are proficient in all Simple and Martial Weapons, and Light and Medium armor, though some skills will suffer if they wear chainmail.

The weapons you chose are all okay; they're in the simple to martial ranges.
